Reading for academic purposes to develop critical thinking skills
Reading for academic purposes to develop critical thinking skills
Description
Book Introduction
From the 'Liberal Korean for International Students' series
Deepen your thinking about the topics that international students have studied
A guide to help you develop the ability to discuss with other students.

As the number of international students at Korean universities has increased recently, interest in their academic abilities has also increased.
There is a significant difference in content and level between Korean for general purposes and Korean for academic purposes required at university.
For international students to have a successful college life, basic Korean language skills learned at the Korean Language Institute are not enough for everyday life.
This is because communication that takes place at universities is characterized by being centered on written language in formal situations.
In addition, you need Korean language skills that are sufficient to learn not only general knowledge but also specialized knowledge.
Without these language skills, international students will have difficulty successfully managing their university life.
And above all, to maximize your mathematical abilities in college, it is urgent and essential to develop your academic language skills.
Based on this awareness of the problem, Sungkyunkwan University's undergraduate school developed and released the "Korean Language Textbook for International Students" series.
This series aims to help international students succeed in their university studies.
Since the course is structured around the practical skills needed for academic study along with the Korean communication skills required for university, we believe that both Korean language skills and academic abilities will naturally improve over the course of study.

Publisher's Review
This book is a continuation of “Reading Skills to Develop Thinking Power” in the “Korean Language Textbooks for International Students” series.
『Reading Skills to Develop Thinking Power』 focuses on reading skills to help you develop the ability to read fluently.
In addition, this textbook focuses on cultivating the ability to read a variety of specialized or general education books based on reading skills.
In the process, I wanted to improve not only my Korean reading skills but also the qualities necessary to take major or liberal arts classes.

『Reading for Academic Purposes to Develop Thinking Skills』 is largely divided into five areas: general, humanities and arts, social sciences, management and economics, and natural sciences.
The five areas are based on the intention to provide intensive and integrated learning tailored to the learner's major.
The five areas are organized to be independent yet interconnected.
After learning the common areas, it is possible to learn the areas needed according to the learner's major or interests.
『Reading for Academic Purposes to Develop Thinking Skills』 is comprised of 13 units.
Each unit is also composed of five stages: Introduction, Reading Material 1, Reading Material 2, In-depth Activities, and Reading Skills.
The introduction is an introductory process in which you think about and discuss the topics of Reading Materials 1 and 2.
Reading materials 1 and 2 are organized by topic and contain texts related to the area.
The enrichment activities allowed students to deepen their thinking about Readings 1 and 2 and the topics they learned through them and discuss them with other students.
The Skills of Reading series is designed to help you recall what you learned in previous series and improve your reading skills.

Through this textbook and the "Korean Language Textbooks for International Students" series, we hope that international students will improve their academic skills, enjoy a satisfying university life in Korea, and achieve significant academic success.
