Publisher's Review
It was in January 1997 that Kyung Sang University began teaching Korean to foreigners.
At that time, the first Korean language training course was opened for students at Sheffield University in England.
Since then, we have continued to provide Korean language education, but we have always purchased Korean language textbooks from external sources.
While teaching at a university, I felt somewhat dissatisfied with the fact that I had to teach without any independent ideas about education and just follow the guidance of others.
Developing Korean language textbooks was not an easy task.
Although we have not achieved any research results to speak of in relation to Korean language education, we have been gradually carrying out preparatory work related to the development of teaching materials by holding academic conferences related to Korean language education within our university.
Preparations for the development of Korean language textbooks began in earnest in 2009.
In 2009, our National Institute of the Korean Language and Culture conducted a Korean language textbook analysis project as a basic study for the development of Korean language textbooks. In 2010, as a preliminary project for the development of Korean language textbooks, we investigated and organized basic vocabulary for the development of Korean language textbooks, reviewed and organized the content of Korean language textbooks by level, and formed a Korean language textbook development research team.
Our National Institute of the Korean Language and Culture has developed “Beginner’s Korean (Korean 1, Korean 2)” as a textbook for foreign students to study at Korean universities.
