Into the book
My house is an old apartment with low ceilings, so when the carpentry team took measurements, I asked about the ceiling first.
“Carpenter, I want to raise the ceiling as high as possible. How much higher can I make it?” The carpenter looked at the ceiling space and said that the ceiling could be raised by only 2 to 3 cm, so there was no need to build a new one.
He said that if you redo the ceiling, there will be additional carpentry costs, so if there are no special defects, it is usually left as is.
Still, I asked for a new ceiling.
In a small house, 2-3cm was really precious.
I thought that raising the ceiling a little and making the horizontal and vertical lines straight was a way to make the space neat and sophisticated.

Jollycut is a tile edge processing method that cuts the end surfaces of tiles at a 45-degree angle so that the tiles meet together seamlessly.
When tiles meet at right angles, a finishing material called corner bead is usually used at the corners, but if Jolly is installed, there is no need to add another finishing material.
It is visually much cleaner as it does not use additional heterogeneous materials.
---p.38 From “Secrets of Minimal Interior Part 2_Simple Jolly Cut”
What makes a sink look minimalist and sophisticated? First, the thickness of the countertop.
The thickness of the sink top commonly installed in homes is usually around 40 to 50 mm.
Just by changing the thickness of the countertop to something thinner than this, the atmosphere of the kitchen changes completely.
When I was deciding on the countertop for my house, I was debating between 12mm and 24mm, and decided on 24mm. These days, many houses are constructed with 12mm.
As long as stability and durability are good, the thinner the table top, the more sophisticated it feels.
---p.76 From “Secrets of Minimalist Interior Design in Part 2: The Thinner the Sink Top, the Better It Looks”
When installing a system air conditioner, the piping work must be done in advance after the demolition process, and during the carpentry work, the joists and holes must be drilled for the air conditioner location.
To install a system air conditioner, you need about 180 to 200 mm of space in the ceiling. If your house has a low ceiling, you only need to lower the space where the air conditioner is installed.
In the case of a house with high ceilings, if the entire living room ceiling is lowered to the space for the system air conditioner, the ceiling will appear flat and cool.
---p.188 From “Part 3 Interior Construction A to Z_Woodworking”
Once the tile team has completed all the work, including installing tiles, bathtubs, and sinks, they install the ceramics, such as sinks and toilets.
Installation of the pottery requires hiring a separate worker.
A plumbing installer will usually install the bathroom ceiling, toilet, sink, cabinets, towel rail, toilet paper holder, and exhaust fan.
All bathroom-related items, including pottery and bathroom accessories, must be purchased in advance and delivered to the site before the work day.
---p.196 From “Part 3 Interior Construction A to Z_Tile and Ceramic Installation”
It is recommended to install the floor first and then paint.
Usually, the flooring company installs the mop base together, but if you paint first and then install the mop base, there will be a gap at the boundary where the mop base and the wallpaper meet, so you will have to spray silicone.
The floor and baseboard should be installed first, and then the wallpaper should be slightly applied over them to achieve a clean finish without silicone.

Publisher's Review
Minimalist interior design, can we achieve it in our home too?
"If I Renovate My Home Once in My Life" is a practical interior design book for those who are determined to renovate their own home.
It allows you to check yourself on what type of construction to choose when planning your interior, and also reveals the 'secret of minimalist interior' that sticks to the basics without any unnecessary decoration.
It provides detailed information on all the necessary parts of the interior design process, from demolition to installation, windows, electrical work, carpentry, tiles, flooring, painting, lighting installation, and finishing.
I was filled with anticipation as I imagined my new home, but once the interior construction was completed, I was left with regret and disappointment.
It is not uncommon for people to even have conflicts with their companies and suffer in silence.
Oasis, which has been diligently and passionately renovating homes as if they were its own, generously reveals its minimalist interior know-how, faithful to the basics, that has 200% satisfied customers.
[Class 101] Popular creator and space designer 'Oasis'
The secret to minimalist interior design, learned through hard work and study!
Oasis, who wrote this book, bought me a house I had been waiting for for five years.
A 24-pyeong low-rise apartment where you can enjoy the changes of the four seasons.
However, it was an old house that was almost 30 years old, so the sink was yellowed and everything from the wallpaper to the door and bathroom needed to be fixed.
I decided to do a full remodel and looked into interior design companies, but the company I wanted was too expensive for me to afford.
After much deliberation, I decided to do my own interior design and spent the remaining two years before moving in, researching the market dozens of times and studying diligently.
And we chose a direct construction method where we do the design, planning, and supervision ourselves, but leave the construction to experts for each process.
'Oasis Home', which was reborn as a high-difficulty minimalist construction that would have been abandoned due to budget overruns if it had been commissioned as a turnkey project to interior design companies such as 'Mumolding', '9mm Moonseon', and 'Jolly Cut Construction', became a hot topic after being introduced on [Naver Living] and [Today's House].
Since then, I have gradually accumulated know-how by helping my blog neighbors who are trying their hand at self-interior design like me.
Currently, I am a space designer and an Instagram influencer with 60,000 followers, and I am still working tirelessly.

Can we transform our home into something unique?
The author emphasizes sticking to the basics to create a home that is unique and optimized for your family.
Let's focus on the fundamentals of organizing lines and surfaces throughout the entire process, from carpentry to laying the basic framework, to tiling, painting, and flooring, to designing a space that fully reflects the detailed needs of each family member.
He advises that if you eliminate all unnecessary elements in each process and complete a minimalist interior as neatly as a piece of paper, each piece of furniture and household items that reflect your personal taste will shine even more, and you will enjoy a minimalist life that is light and relaxed.
You can create a classy and beautiful space without famous brand furniture or special decorations!
The appendix at the end of the book shows examples of apartment construction of various sizes, comparing them before and after construction.
It is interesting to see how the structural features of the house were utilized and how the family's lifestyle was reflected in the space.
