Description
Book Introduction
tvN [Amazing Cleanup] Hot topic space creator Lee Ji-young introduces Everything about interior design, organizing, and space reorganization! The book 『I'll Organize Your Life』 by Lee Ji-young, the hot topic space creator who has been literally 'transforming' the homes of the guests on the popular tvN entertainment show 'Amazing Organization', has been published. The book contains everything about reorganizing spaces to revive dead spaces and maximize convenience, including interior design and organizing know-how that was not fully introduced on TV. The author points out that many people actually use space inefficiently and live with inconveniences without realizing they are inconveniences because of stereotypes. The author's philosophy is that if you let go of stereotypes, both life and space can be used comfortably to suit you. Through the practical organizing know-how condensed in this book and the author's various experiences in reorganizing space over the years, you will have time to reflect not only on 'space' but also on 'life'. |

Into the book
Even newlyweds who stick to a simple and sophisticated interior design end up having a child and adding more furniture and belongings, which can cause everything to become a mess.
In times like these, people often think that they need to redo the interior construction, but construction alone will never solve the problem.
This is the time when we must 'give space its own role'.
There are times when we assign roles to space.
It's not something you can do at any time, all year round.
This is when a major life change occurs, such as when a single-person household gets married, when a newlywed couple has a baby, when a long-time employee quits or retires, or when a middle-aged couple sends their children off to live independently.
The common thread is that when there are changes in family members or lifestyle patterns, we look back on the space we live in, modify the purpose of the space to suit the changed life, and give it a new concept to match.
--- pp.30-31
For example, in a house with a living room and one bedroom, if there's a dad who comes home late from work every day, why not place his bed in the living room? While mom and the kids are sleeping in the bedroom, the late-comer can comfortably wash up, watch TV, and then sleep without worrying about waking the kids.
Still, some people worry about how to put the bed in the living room.
However, when we applied it to the homes of several clients with young children, the satisfaction level of the fathers was the highest.
When there are two or more rooms, it is common to prepare and decorate a separate baby room when the baby is born, but in reality, most Korean children sleep with their mom and dad until they enter elementary school.
Foreign children may be a little different, but in our country, it is natural.
If that happens, for at least 5-6 years, that room will be a room where dad, who comes home late, sleeps in an uncomfortable position.
When children are young, they tend to sleep together in one place, and even if you bring in a new, wide, low family bed, it can still be uncomfortable for dad who comes home late.
So, in the end, dads end up sleeping in the baby's room.
--- pp.36-37
But it doesn't end here.
This is what I want to emphasize most.
Until your child enters elementary school, you can use the Alpha Room as a playroom.
However, it should not continue to be used as a playroom even after the child enters school and becomes an older child.
As children grow, they need their own space and a study room rather than a playroom.
The role of space must also change to suit the growth and change of the user.
This means that once something is decided, it is not completely fixed.
When your child grows up to a certain age and wants a room of his or her own, you will need to create a room for him or her.
Alpha Room will have to be repurposed again.
I don't know what other changes this family will experience by then, but it might be a good idea to decorate it as a study room.
Otherwise, the Alpha Room could become a second warehouse again.
--- pp.48-49
As I mentioned before, take out all the items in the category you want to organize and gather them in one place.
Whether it's a book or clothes, everything should be visible at a glance.
First, take everything out and spread it out to get a good overview.
Once the whole picture is known, priorities are assigned.
Once you have your priorities in order, the next step isn't difficult.
The reason we couldn't throw away all these things was because we thought there was only one of them in the house.
But here's the important thing.
Let's say there are 10 of the same item.
If your house is large enough to store all 10, you don't have to throw them away.
Or there are cases like this:
If you take out all 10 of them and there's nothing you want to throw away, then you can just keep all 10.
Because they are all precious to me.
Even if you haven't taken it out or used it for a long time, you should keep the things you want to keep.
The point is, never throw away for the sake of throwing away.
--- pp.95-96
When we first started looking for a house to work on, we were of course unaware of this situation.
I didn't even know what it meant to throw away all the unnecessary stuff.
The house looked nice to anyone who saw it, with lots of expensive items, and the family in the photo looked harmonious.
I had always seen messy houses while working, so I couldn't believe that my client was even contemplating ending his life.
We worked with our staff at that house for three days.
But for some reason, I noticed that the client's expression was noticeably changing from day to day.
On the last day, after finishing organizing and reorganizing, we were about to begin the final styling work when he approached us with a look on his face as if he had made up his mind about something.
And in fact, he confessed that he had planned to clean up the house and then die.
He said that he had requested space consulting as if he was organizing his belongings because he thought he was going to die, and that seeing the space he had been living in change 180 degrees in just three days gave him a lot to think about.
It means that I have the will to live again.
He then repeatedly said that he was very ashamed and sorry, and that he was truly grateful.
--- pp.166-167
Now that you've gotten your kitchen organized, let's take a look at some tips for making your kitchen stylish.
For a while, stands were very hot.
But there are many ways to completely change the look of your kitchen, beyond just the stand.
I really recommend hanging a picture in the kitchen.
Or, you could try painting one wall of the kitchen in a refreshing color to change the atmosphere.
If you often eat in the kitchen, it would be a good idea to hang pictures of appetizing fruit or brightly colored images there. If you spend more time reading or working than eating, it would be a good idea to hang pictures that give off a calming feeling or paint the walls with a calming color.
If you love books, placing a bookshelf on one wall of the kitchen will change the atmosphere.
Breaking the stereotype, if space allows, you can easily place a bookshelf in the kitchen.
If you display the books you read frequently on a bookshelf, you can create a truly book cafe-like atmosphere.
The dining table becomes a book cafe table.
But we must not forget that this space is a kitchen.
Rather than having too many books, it is better to store books that you enjoy reading these days or books related to your child's studies that will help them learn.
--- p.215
For someone who loves and cherishes clothes this much, a dressing room is a must.
If you have secured space to make a dressing room, install a wardrobe with a door on the first wall you see when you enter the room, and a system hanger on the opposite wall.
And on the wall in between, place a six-drawer chest that is wide enough to not block the window.
Now that your storage space is divided like this, it's time to sort your clothes by season.
If it is summer now, hang summer clothes on the system hanger and store winter clothes in the closet.
Conversely, if it is winter now, store winter clothes on the system hanger and summer clothes in the closet.
This makes it easier to find and wear clothes.

Publisher's Review
Life-Changing 'Amazing Organization'
“I’ll organize your life.”
These days, as we spend more time at home, the space called ‘home’ has become even more important.
Home is no longer a place to ‘eat, sleep, and wash.’
It's a school, a theater, a workplace, and a good restaurant.
How's your home right now? Lee Ji-young, the hotly anticipated space creator who transformed the homes of guests on tvN's popular variety show "Amazing Tidying," has published a book titled "We'll Organize Your Life."
“I think organizing your space is like organizing your life.
“I have seen with my own eyes how many people’s lives have changed,” says CEO Lee Ji-young. She has included in the book everything she could not fully explain on the show, including her philosophy on space, interior design and organizing know-how, and how to reconstruct space to revive dead spaces and maximize convenience.
With a very small change
The Miracle of Space: A New Life for Objects and People
A client decided to take an extreme measure and asked CEO Lee Ji-young to help him organize his home before leaving.
He had a mental illness, but outwardly he was astonished to see his house dramatically transformed in just three days.
Moreover, as I let go of each object while caressing it, and took out the things I liked in the past and gave them new places, a big change occurred in my heart.
On the last day of the cleanup, he reportedly shed tears of gratitude, saying he had found the courage to live again.
This is an example from the book.
Even if it's not such a dramatic story, changes in space can bring about changes in our lives.
A dad who has his own space to relax, a mom who starts her day in a pretty home cafe, children who organize their own space, a single-person household who is finally enjoying the romance of living alone, parents who feel relieved after getting rid of the clutter that has accumulated over the decades, etc.
Even objects and people can regain new life with very small changes.
Even if you just change the direction slightly to make it easier to write, the inconveniences you have been living with without knowing it will disappear.
The author says that when you empty things, you can see space, and when you see space, you can finally see people.
He emphasizes that even maximalists can be happy surrounded by their favorite things in a well-organized, comfortable space, if they know how to efficiently organize and fill their space to suit them.

Introducing the best space creators
How to empty, how to organize, how to maintain
"Do your family members watch more TV together, or do they each watch more YouTube?" "Do you often eat home-cooked meals together, or do you eat separately at your own convenience?" "I'm an extrovert, but will my child be able to study well at a cramped desk pushed against the wall?" "Why do you put the dish rack on the left side if you're right-handed?" "Do you really need to put the sofa in the living room and the dining table in the kitchen?"
In this book, the author points out that many people actually use space inefficiently and live without realizing the inconveniences they experience because of stereotypes.
This is because the space is not given a proper role and the writer's tendencies and circumstances are not taken into consideration.
His philosophy is that if you let go of stereotypes about life and space and don't mindlessly follow what others do, you can use them comfortably to suit yourself.
The author, who already actively communicates with the public through broadcasts, lectures, and YouTube, systematically explains through this book how to observe 'people' and 'lifestyles' and organize spaces accordingly.
It is generously packed with everything from a space creator's checklist to how to organize bookshelves, refrigerators, and closets, kitchen and bathroom decorating and cleaning know-how, and the best value organizing and storage items.
