The queen of German mystery novels is back.
Death to Snow White, a new work by Nele Neuhaus!

In a world that doesn't care about the suffering of others,
They became their own executioners.'

Nele Neuhaus, a synonym for German mystery novels, has released her latest novel, "Monster," which focuses on the theme of "private sanctions." It is the eleventh installment in the prestigious European mystery series, "Taunus," which has been running for nearly 20 years.
'Private sanctions', where individuals or private organizations punish criminals rather than the law, are one of the issues that have recently become a global problem.

Publisher's Review
The law failed to punish the perpetrator.
The court has become a game where winning is the only thing that matters.

'He said he would let me kill my daughter's murderer with my own hands.

That is true justice.'

One December day, the strangled body of a 16-year-old girl is found near a church, covered in snow that had fallen overnight.
Among the numerous genetic traces found on the girl's body and clothes, one is found to belong to an Afghan refugee.
He is Pabad Mahmoudi, a man convicted of sexual assault last year but released three days ago after being held in pre-trial detention for over a year following an appeal by his lawyer.
However, he, who was not allowed to leave his residence without permission, disappears before the police can find him, and to make matters worse, his name is leaked to the media before they can even search for him.
As social media became abuzz and voices criticizing refugee integration policies and the legal system grew louder, parents worried about their children's safety appeared on various broadcasts to denounce them, and foreigners living in refugee accommodations fled with their families out of concern for their safety.

Anne, who lost her only child, Larissa (Lissi), whom she had conceived with difficulty through artificial insemination with her husband, is completely at a loss.
The police come and ask him all sorts of questions about his dead daughter, but he has little to answer.
I thought she was a very close mother to her daughter, but did she really know so little about her? Family, relatives, and neighbors visit to offer comfort and cook meals, but Anne just wants to be left alone.
What should I say and do in front of others now that my daughter has been murdered? Is it worth continuing to live with my husband, Jörg, who has built his life around Lisi? He has a daughter, Ilva, from a previous relationship, so his loss is incomparable to mine…

Even Sarah, Rishi's best friend, can't believe the reality.
I can't believe that Rishi, who has been with me every day, including participating in cosplay, is no longer by my side.
Sarah can't stand the sight of people who don't even know her well leaving flowers and cards in her memory, weeping.
I hate people wondering if Rishi was sexually assaulted.
I also find it disgusting that my friends pretend to be close to Rishi and then tell the police in detail what Rishi was like and what he did that day.
Sarah knows who Rishi was secretly meeting that day.
Still, he cannot tell the police about his suspicions.
Maybe it's just a story made up by Rishi, who likes to imagine and exaggerate.
But what if it's true? Even if he's dead, you can't just carelessly leak your friend's secrets, right?

Oliver von Bodenstein and Pia Sander's 11th Special Investigation Unit are reacting with hostility towards foreigners as if they had been waiting for the name of Pabad Mahmoudi, who is not a suspect but merely a witness, to be mentioned, and are even very concerned about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
When Bodenstein tries to appoint Kai Ostermann as new leader of the special investigation unit, Chief Nicola Engel tells him that any mistake will be held accountable by the press, the police chief, and the interior minister, and that there is a younger figure vying for Bodenstein's position, who is now 57 years old.
Meanwhile, Pia is worried about her mother, who is showing signs of dementia.
The mother is practically the only child left to care for her, and finances are tight for hiring professional help.
Moreover, her husband Christophe, who has not been very affectionate lately, has been offered the position of director of the Namibian zoo and asks Pia to go with him, but Pia cannot leave her mother or her police work, and she does not want to spend a year in Africa without doing anything.

While the investigation is making little progress, an accident occurs in which a man suddenly runs out of the forest barefoot and is hit by a moving car and dies.
The man, whose body is covered in animal bites, is identified as Rene Siegel, who was recently released from prison after serving two years and two months for manslaughter after hitting and killing a pregnant woman during an illegal car race.
However, the husband of the pregnant woman whom Sigel had previously hit with his car knew the cause of death of Sigel before the police could explain it.
As the police become suspicious, a pattern begins to emerge among several unsolved deaths and disappearances from the past.

A woman approaches Rishi's mother, Anne, and tells her that she knows where Pabad is being held, and that if Anne wants, she can kill her daughter's murderer herself.
There is no need for an example, it is just for the sake of justice… … .
Meanwhile, Judge Havelka of the Frankfurt Regional Court finally makes a decision that has been in the works for months, seeing defendants with long criminal records, sloppy postures, and defense attorneys who find something to throw out the trial despite the clear guilt.
Then my heart feels lighter.
Because this is for justice… … .
