A Korean medicine doctor and herbal medicine pharmacist in a quiet rural village
And the pleasant and bittersweet comfort that ghosts create!

When I was born, my family was poor, and my mother was someone who chose money over children.
The reason Seungbeom, the son of such a family, wanted to succeed as a Korean medicine doctor was purely to make a lot of money.
So I had to become the vice-president of a large oriental medicine hospital in Seoul.
Since the director also revealed money, and since I could earn more if I became vice director, it was worth investing this much.

However, the director swallows the money Seungbeom gave him and appoints someone else as vice director.
Seungbeom, who is always whining, never gets his money or his position as vice president.
Seungbeom, a doctor of oriental medicine from the best oriental medicine hospital in Seoul, wonders where he can open a practice, and heads to the sparsely populated 'Uhwasi'.
I will succeed as a local exclusive Korean medicine clinic!

Contrary to Seungbeom's expectations, no patients come to the Korean medicine clinic he built with all his heart and soul.
Even if you advertise that you are a famous Korean medicine doctor from Seoul or ask the village elders to help you, it is of no use.
Does that mean everyone in this neighborhood is healthy? No.
Across from me, at the 'Sujeong Herbal Medicine Shop', which is on the verge of collapse, there's an unusually large line of people waiting! Why on earth?

Seungbeom decides to uncover the secret of the herbal medicine shop and sneaks into the shop.
Seung-beom, who was peeking into the consultation room of a herbal medicine shop, makes eye contact with a strange-looking ghost.
Seungbeom faints.
What could a ghost possibly do in a herbal medicine shop? Seungbeom can't help but doubt whether what he saw the day before was real.
As he stared blankly out the window, he saw the ghost he'd seen at the herbal medicine shop last night, leading ten people into the shop! Seungbeom's eyes shot open.
This was it!

Seungbeom's tumultuous ghost treatment operation, dreaming of opening a successful Korean medicine clinic!

Into the book
“Nice to meet you, I’m Yoon Gong-sil.
But you, since when have you seen dead people?”
“Eww!!”
When Gongsil suddenly asked, Seungbeom got up from his seat and ran out of the herbal medicine shop.

Running through the dark streets, Seungbeom looked back at the federation.
It seemed as if a ghost would appear at any moment, writhing around and chasing him.
The thought sent shivers down my spine.

--- p.44~45

The male ghost who had been chasing people spread his arms.
The muscles in my arm moved and my arm gradually grew longer.
A flailing arm brushed against the arm of an old woman trying to get away from the roadside.
The old woman, who had been blankly staring ahead, was startled and stepped onto the sidewalk.
Seungbeom remembered that his ankle, which had been possessed by a ghost, was very numb.
The grandmother entered the open wooden door of the herbal medicine shop, blending in with the crowd.

--- p.65

“One ghost for ten people!”
Gong-sil became anxious and shouted.
Again Seungbeom stopped and opened his mouth wide.
What does that mean? Ten people for every ghost? His eyes drifted to the herbal medicine shop, teeming with people and ghosts.

“If Mr. Ko heals a ghost, the ghost will pay the price by bringing ten people.”
--- p.69~70

“Just in case.
I thought that seeing you all like this, like Mr. Ko, might be of some help, even if only a little.
Who knows? Perhaps I, a young man, can heal your ailments sooner?
joy.
The male ghost snorted with his arms crossed.
“Even ghosts have privacy.
“I don’t want to tell anyone I don’t know.”
“You may not know this, but I happen to be a doctor of Oriental medicine at the Oriental medicine clinic across from here.
"5 years at a renowned oriental medicine hospital in Seoul! We treat and cure ailments!"
--- p.124

Publisher's Review
This is the first full-length novel by Bae Myung, who has written novels of various genres!

Author Bae Myung-eun has generously displayed his storytelling skills, which he has built up through many short stories, including anthologies such as “Are We Summoning Other Ghosts,” “Deadly Lovely,” and “The Night the Ghost Comes,” as well as his personal short story collection “House of Storms,” in “Suspicious Clinic.”
A story that is lively, cheerful, yet weighty, with realistic, three-dimensional characters.
Moreover, the sentences are imbued with the author's sense of humor and warm heart! It was a truly meaningful experience for Bae Myung to be able to accompany the author on his first full-length novel.

An invitation to comedy, occult fantasy, and healing!

There lives Seungbeom, a doctor who can see ghosts, and Sujeong, a herbal medicine doctor.
Unlike the Oriental medicine clinic and herbal medicine shop that are right next to each other, the relationship between Seungbeom and Soojeong is not very good.
Seungbeom didn't like Soojung who poured the water that had been washed in a rag on him as soon as they arrived at Uhwasi, and Soojung didn't like Seungbeom who was trying to get a cure for a ghost patient easily by shouting only about money.
But as time goes by, their relationship changes.
And there's also Gong-sil, a chatty ghost and friend of Su-jeong who plays a big role in their transformation.
The coexistence of the living and the dead gradually helps Seungbeom grow more than anything else.
'The doctor just has to treat it.
Life in the fable city opened a new world to Seungbeom, who used to say, 'What more do you need?' and 'Money can do anything.'
What choice will Seungbeom make?

I hope you will join me on this journey.

A beautiful book we created together!

The cover, props, and character illustrations for 『Suspicious Oriental Medicine Clinic』 were created by artist Kkottarae, who reinterprets Korean traditions to create original works.
In 『Suspicious Clinic』, the important moment of 'night' was expressed in a splendid way, grabbing attention.
And content creation studio Greenery Cave has compiled these wonderful illustrations into a book.
The fog in the cover illustration was reflected in the title, creating an attractive font.
Additionally, it effectively implements direction through changes in color, letter arrangement, and alignment within the book, providing a unique and fun experience.

The background music (BGM) of 『Suspicious Clinic』 is about 15 minutes of music produced in collaboration with composer Choi Hee-young, who is actively working as a composer, performer, and musical music director, with the aim of helping readers enter and immerse themselves in reading.
The song was composed by musically sublimating the perspective of the main character, 'Kim Seung-beom', in the fable poem that is the main setting of the work, and Korean instruments were used and arranged in a modern way.
