From January 2016 to August 2020, 『Gadamhangseol』 has been loved by readers, maintaining the top spot in Naver Webtoon fantasy and historical drama categories every Thursday.

Author Langto, who gained popularity for his unique 'crazy gag comics' in previous works such as 'SM Player' and 'The Villain's Story'.
He happened to hear a classical poem and was deeply moved by it, and so he planned a work that incorporated various sijo poems into a story within a comic book.
The author, who found the reason why the writing, written hundreds of years ago, has been able to convey vivid emotions that transcend time, lies in the universal human emotions contained within it. He created a new world of works that captures the power and value of emotions that cannot be replaced by reason, while delicately depicting the various aspects of humanity and the complex inner psychology without losing the comical element.
『Gadamhangseol』, which was born in this way, is a “Langto artist’s signature oriental fantasy boy’s comic” that cannot be seen anywhere else, and fully reveals his talent as a “genius national cartoonist.”
It received praise for being a work that “well-expresses the unique lightheartedness of webtoons with a solid story and direction,” and was highly praised for its artistic quality as well as its popularity, including winning the “2018 Today’s Cartoon Award,” “2019 Excellent Cartoon Book Selection,” and “2020 Korea Content Awards Cartoon Category Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award.”


The main stage of 『Gadamhangseol』 is a fictional time and space based on the Joseon Dynasty, when the caste system was strong.
By adding fantasy elements to traditional colors, the work depicts a world where the power of 'words' and 'writing' becomes the basis of superhuman abilities.
Although it is somewhat odd, the main character of this work, which promotes the royal road, is a 'stone'.
'Bok-ah' is praying to the gods of heaven and earth for the safety of her young master, who has left alone to face the past, standing in front of a large rock erected on the roadside. Then, she realizes that a naked man is standing before her.
That 'stone' turned into a person ('Hanseol').
For some unknown reason, Hanseol, who became human, heads to the royal capital without any plan, saying, "I must tell the king what I have realized."
Their chance meeting leads to a long journey as the village where Bok-ah lived is engulfed in tragedy, with a 'universal beheading' being carried out.


As characters with their own stories become intertwined in their adventure, the story progresses in an unpredictable way.
The main characters face all sorts of adversity and are frustrated by their own limitations, but they overcome them based on their faith in and solidarity with their comrades.
Through this, the characters grow and solidify their beliefs, which will provide readers with a unique sense of fun and excitement.

The title of the work, ‘Gadamhangseol (街談巷說)’, means ‘rumors circulating on the streets.’
However, unlike ‘rumors’ which mean ‘groundless rumors’, there is a big difference in that it ‘could be true’.
This plays a key role in the work, and it is also connected to the fact that the name of the main character, Hanseol, is derived from the word 'Hangseol' in 'Gadamhangseol', and that what he was trying to tell the king was not an unfounded rumor heard on the road, but a story based on facts that he saw, heard, and experienced firsthand.


The power of 'words' holds an important position within the worldview of 『Gadamhangseol』.
In the work, knowing 'words' and 'writing' means possessing transcendental abilities.
When you realize the meaning of 'words' and can engrave them into 'writing' with your will, you will be able to exert great powers, such as healing someone or making a weapon more powerful.

The confrontation between the 'human' with such special abilities and the 'god' represented by the 'divine dragon' is another central axis of this work.
The protagonists struggle to stop the 'divine dragon', who was awakened from a long sleep by human desires and demands, but was betrayed by them and went wild. Most of the people who fight against them are the lower classes, such as Baekjeong, Sadangpae, and slaves, who are looked down upon by society.
Even though they have outstanding abilities, they are not given the opportunity to advance in life due to their innate status, origin, or gender.
On the contrary, because of that ability, they are ostracized by people and their lives are threatened.
For them, such abilities are not a blessing but a tragedy.


Each character endures the world in their own way to survive at the bottom, and lives while hiding their inner wounds.
It is interesting to note that the moment each person's story is revealed, as if to say, "what you see is not everything," the structure of good and evil collapses and the characters are reinterpreted in a three-dimensional way.
The narrative given to each character in the work brings them to life and draws you into their unique charm.
