Meronghaechi of Gyeongbokgung Palace
Description
Book Introduction
A word from MD
There is a Seosu-sang at the important entrance to our palace.
The word 'Seo-su', which means 'auspicious animal', usually has the appearance of a haechi.
One of the oriental dragons at Yeongjegyo Bridge in Gyeongbokgung Palace is lying on the bridge in the warm sunlight, sticking out its tongue.
Inspired by this sculpture, the cute and adorable Meronghaechi of Gyeongbokgung Palace was born.
Let's enjoy the beautiful four seasons of the palace with Bokdeungi Haechi, a legendary animal that is said to distinguish good from evil and ward off fire and misfortune.

Publisher's Review
Haechi, the influencer(?) of Gyeongbokgung Palace, appears in a picture book.

One day, Merong Haechi appeared on the timeline, stuck his tongue out, and stole our hearts with his cuteness and loveliness that penetrated 600 years of history.
Merong Haechi, who made everyone laugh with his clever and absurd pranks, shared joys and sorrows with the people in the palace, animals, and imaginary beings, and became a special friend to everyone, has finally become an influencer of Gyeongbokgung Palace, receiving love from over 40,000 people on social media such as Instagram and Twitter in just one year. Now, you can meet him in book form.

The statue of Seo Su-sang, who looks down at Geumcheon Stream with his tongue sticking out in front of Yeongjegyo Bridge in Gyeongbokgung Palace, is a scene-stealer of our cultural heritage that everyone who knows anything about it knows.
Meronghaechi, a traditional character living in a palace, was inspired by this Seo Su-sang.
The 'Haechi', which is more familiar to us than Cheonrok, is known as a magical animal that protects the palace and distinguishes between right and wrong.
Merong Haechi's kindness and trustworthiness are combined with the cute and quirky charm of a pet that somehow seems to know my heart and makes me want to stay with it forever.
The ancient people that Haechi, who was born and lives in the palace, meets in his daily life resemble us when he spends time with lovely animals.
When we spend time with Hatch, our anxious and tense hearts become gentle, innocent, and soft.

The birth of our new character

Merong Haechi is a character that was created when the author, who accompanied his mother, a palace guide, to Gyeongbokgung Palace and was inspired by Merong Cheonrok.
Since most of the materials were found by visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace in person, each cut is vivid and feels like you are walking through the palace, and the space itself reflects reality.
This is thanks to the process of walking around every corner of Gyeongbokgung Palace, thinking, "What would Haechi be doing here?", and carefully examining the palace space that serves as the background, and researching this in detail while drawing.
That is why 『Gyeongbokgung Palace's Meronghaechi』 had a lot of talk about historical accuracy from the beginning of the series.
There were also readers who asked, 'Why is it Haechi and not Cheonrok?'
The Meronghaechi episode features numerous cultural assets, from the iron bowl of Geunjeongjeon to the Ilwol Obongdo painting, and various historical scenes, from the Crown Prince's Day to King Sukjong's cat, Geumson.
Peeking into Hatch's day-to-day life is not only a fun and moving experience like watching a cartoon, but also a way to rediscover our history through the new sensibilities of new characters.

With our characters such as Pororo, Baby Shark, and Pengsoo widely loved by the public, the domestic character market, which had been stagnant since the character Dooly, is once again experiencing a heyday.
Even in such a situation, Meronghaechi is more meaningful in that it has characters and stories based on our traditional culture.
This is why we were able to meet Merong Haechi at the 2021 Royal Culture Festival, and why many people, after watching ‘Merong Haechi of Gyeongbokgung Palace,’ requested that more traditional characters be created.
As the author says, “I try to design content that is harmless so that even people who are not usually interested in history can easily approach it and watch it comfortably,” through Hatchi, our history becomes more interesting and warmer.
