Book Introduction
Five Mentors Offer Youth "Paths"
A Hope Project from Five of the Best Mentors of Our Time If you only worry about 'what should I do?' and 'how should I do it?', ten years will pass by in a flash without you getting anything done. "Passionate Youth" is the compass of life that you should open first when you are feeling so tired and exhausted that you want to give up everything, when you are feeling gloomy because you are not sure if the path you are taking is the right one, and when you want to steal a glimpse into the lives of those who have walked a step ahead of you. This book is a compilation of lectures titled “Let’s Dream Together” given at the Peace Foundation last year by five representative mentors of our time: Venerable Pomnyun, writer Noh Hee-kyung, lawyer Park Won-soon, producer Kang Kyung-ran, and professor Yoon Myeong-cheol. It can be said to be a youth mentoring session given to young people who ask “How should we live?” through five themes: “Love, Success, Happiness, Challenge, and Peace.” Here, it contains the love story of writer Noh Hee-kyung, who has tried two-timing, wanted to die because of love, but has never cried because of ratings, and has never regretted being a writer; the theory of happiness of monk Beopryun, who said that in reality, marriage is lonely, he regretted becoming a monk, was in pain because he was an unfilial child, and has experienced many more failures than successes; and the success story of lawyer Park Won-soon, who was once a prosecutor, the director of People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy, Beautiful Store, and Hope Institute, and now has “social designer” written on his business card. These stories provide warm encouragement and life wisdom to young people who are trying to find their path. * Go watch the video "Passionate Youth" |

Publisher's Review
How should we live in the passionate youth?
To the passionate youth who have more days to live than days already lived
A Hope Project from Five of the Best Mentors of Our Time
If you only worry about 'what should I do?' and 'how should I do it?', ten years will pass by without you getting anything done.
This book is the compass of life that you should open first when you are feeling so tired and exhausted that you want to give up everything, when you are feeling gloomy because you are not sure if the path you are taking is the right one, and when you want to steal a glimpse into the lives of those who have walked a step ahead of you.
It is a youth mentoring program that addresses the question “How should we live?” to young people through five themes: “Love, Success, Happiness, Challenge, and Peace.”
This book contains specific details such as the love story of writer Noh Hee-kyung, who has tried two-timing, wanted to die because of love, but has never cried because of ratings, and has never regretted being a writer; the theory of happiness of monk Beopryun, who said that in reality, marriage is lonely, he has regretted becoming a monk, was in pain because he was an unfilial child, and has experienced far more failures than successes; and the success story of lawyer Park Won-soon, who was once a prosecutor, the office manager of People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy, Beautiful Store, and Hope Institute, and now has the three characters "social designer" written on his business card.
The messages of wisdom from five life mentors, sometimes as fathers, sometimes as teachers, and sometimes as older sisters and brothers, will teach you practical methods to concretize your thoughts when you no longer know which path to take and to dream new dreams every day.
You who have stumbled over a rock, cheer up!
Five Mentors Offer Youth "Paths"
It's never too late or too early in life.
Yet, when it comes to life, we are generally woefully short-sighted.
They are anxious to get into a top university or a large company, only seeing what is right in front of them.
They work tirelessly to build up their resumes to pass through the narrow job market, but for most of them, it is difficult to predict even an inch ahead.
The youth's days are difficult because they can't be sure of anything, whether they are doing well or whether the path they have chosen will lead them to their dreams.
If you think about it, youth is the future that teenagers aspire to reach, and the golden age that older generations wish to return to at least once.
However, the life faced by young people in South Korea is neither so beautiful nor so romantic.
It is actually a time when youth's dreams are dreams.
The world we live in today has reduced even the opportunities for self-reflection and exploration of the world, which are the rightful rights of youth, to mere empty dreams.
But what can we do?
The situation will not change no matter how much you blame society, your parents, or others.
The easiest and most effective way is to change yourself.
Knock it out, try it.
It may be much easier than you fear.
Fortunately, if we look carefully, we can easily find mentors who can serve as compasses in our lives.
Dear youth, I was like that back then too!
So let's dream together
This book is a heart-fluttering story of hope, told by five mentors who have lived a step ahead of us and become experts in their respective fields, to young people struggling with frustration and hope, through topics that all young people struggle with, such as peace, love, success, happiness, and challenges.
First mentor, PD Kang Kyung-ran - She received the PD of the Year award for the five-part current affairs documentary “Land of the Humans.”
Her bold challenge makes us think about what the boundaries are between what we can and cannot do.
In this documentary about conflict, made while traveling through scenes of terror, violence, and death with a small frame of 158 centimeters, she tells a tearful story of peace.
But it also gives us another realization.
When asked what was the most difficult thing about being in that remote, conflict-ridden area, she replied:
“If I had clean sheets and a warm soup to drink, I wouldn’t have anything to wish for.” Lying down on clean sheets, falling asleep comfortably, drinking tea with family, and spending a leisurely afternoon eating ice cream may be a fervent wish for some people, and it makes me realize the preciousness of everyday life, which is so trivial that I didn’t even notice it.
Second mentor, writer Noh Hee-kyung - So many people cry and laugh with her dramas.
As expected from a writer who depicts love in detail, it is said that her love in her younger days was also passionate.
I've had the experience of straddling someone's fence, and there were times when I wanted to die because of love.
The story of youthful love, love for a mother, and complexes about a father, told by writer Noh Hee-kyung, is deeply moving.
And it was her childhood memories that held the key to helping children in faraway lands.
Third Mentor, Attorney Park Won-soon _ Mr. Won-soon was once a prosecutor, then a lawyer, and now has a business card that says he is a social designer.
He went through a time that was too heavy and difficult for one person to handle, but he turned that time into something positive.
He is carrying out a thousand job projects to address youth employment issues.
“Try it and see for yourself.
“It’s surprisingly easy to get out, more so than you might think.” I believe that the hope project, told in a cheerful and joyful voice, will greatly lighten the burden on the shoulders of young people who get new ideas from it.
The fourth mentor, Venerable Pomnyun _ Anyone who meets this person will have high standards.
You will no longer feel intimidated by anyone you meet.
Listening to the monk's clear story makes my heart feel refreshed and gives me strength.
And before you know it, you will be able to look at yourself.
People with dreams will find new ways to try even if they fail, and if that fails, they will find new ways to try again, and as they do, they will gradually grow in their abilities.
The monk says:
“The difference between a dream and greed is that if you feel pain when you fail, it’s greed, but if you don’t feel pain when you fail, it’s a dream.”
Fifth mentor Professor Myung-Cheol Yoon _ He constantly tries challenges and adventures, saying, "Seeing once is better than hearing a hundred times, and seeing a hundred times is better than doing once."
To understand the world that Goguryeo dreamed of, I personally rode a horse and a raft, and had experiences that changed my perspective and worldview.
In the process, I came to know the greatness and truth of Goguryeo, and I am working to prove it.
In his story, always dreaming of adventure, you will learn the power of looking at history and the wisdom to apply it to the present.
