Book Introduction
A really cute puppy, you're going to throw it away when you get tired of raising it at home? A book that opens up diverse thoughts about life from a young age. The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education implemented animal welfare education for first and second graders at Hope Elementary School starting in the first semester of March 2018. The goal was to teach children how to live with animals from a young age and to cultivate a sense of respect for life. Animal welfare education is comprised of four themes: ‘Introducing my animal friend,’ ‘Find animal friends around you,’ ‘Animals are family too,’ and ‘Animals have feelings too.’ Basically, classes are held for 2 hours (40 minutes) per topic, for a total of 8 hours per year. Animal welfare is now part of children's classes. These days, we see a lot of television programs about pets. It is said that whenever a pretty and cute animal appears on a program, that type of animal becomes very popular. Also, with the recent explosive increase in the number of companion animals, many derivative products are being produced, and the companion animal market is booming. There has also been a significant increase in pet-related amenities, such as pet kindergartens, pet health centers, pet playgrounds, and pet cafes. But what's really important isn't those products. What's important is how you empathize with your pet and live with it as family. A dog that you bring home after careful consideration, like buying something from the market, may have been a 'pet' rather than a 'companion animal' from the beginning. So, if something deviates even slightly from what you had in mind, wouldn't you be easily bored and give up? This picture book features 10 ordinary dogs that we see around us. And they expressed what they really wanted with warm pictures and language. Through books, we can glimpse into the lives of dogs, feel their hearts, and share thoughts on how to live with pets. Furthermore, "Dream" will broaden the scope of the community that lives with us on Earth by giving us a glimpse into the lives of 10 companion animals, and will open up a wide range of thoughts about life. |

Into the book
Sometimes I get bored being alone.
So when the house is quiet, I hunt.
Let's hunt for socks.
Trees love socks.
I like all kinds of socks.
Long socks, short socks, striped socks, polka dot socks, wool socks, cotton socks, holey socks, smelly socks, I love them all.
Take the socks out of the laundry basket and stack them in your home.
And then I go inside and take a nap.
The tree dreams while taking a nap.
I had a dream that five o'clock in the afternoon passed quickly.
-From the text
'Soonsoon' was born in a fence.
I still live in that fence.
Sunsuni's world is square.
It's surrounded by four walls: wall, wall, wall, wall.
In the middle of the fence stands a small, withered tree.
Sunsuni only does four things all day.
Eating, walking, sleeping, and pooping.
Sunsuni walks near the fence and ditch all day long.
It's a ditch made by Soonsoon's toenail.
In Sunsun's dream, only walls and sick trees appear.
Because I've never seen outside the fence.
Publisher's Review
One thing I want to hear… … .
“We will be together forever.”
Where can I find my 'comrade-in-arms'?
The word 'companion animal' is derived from the word 'companion animal' proposed by Austrian animal behaviorist Dr. Konrad Lorenz in 1983.
The term 'pet', which we mainly use, has the meaning of a toy or a plaything, whereas 'companion animal' has the meaning of 'a companion that becomes a partner', so the opinion that they should be called companion animals has gradually spread.
But do we really think of our pets as "companions"? The number of abandoned pets in 2017 reportedly reached 102,593.
The number of abandoned pets during the double vacation season from June to August was 32,384, or 32.3 percent.
It is said that the number of abandoned animals is especially high during vacation and holiday periods.
I abandon it because I have no place to leave it and no money to leave it.
As long as people adopt and abandon animals so easily, the number of abandoned animals will continue to increase.
"Dream" is a book written in collaboration between Chiara Lorenzoni, a lawyer working in Italy who has won numerous awards, including the Andersen Award, and Sonia Marialuce Posentini, whose talent has been recognized by numerous awards in Italy.
In the book "Dream of a Dream," dedicated to their "pets," ten pets from different backgrounds are featured.
From puppies that sleep all day, tangled up in a mess, to dogs that wear countless clothes and enjoy a luxurious life, to dogs that have forgotten their names, to dogs that spend all day in a square space dreaming of their owners coming home from work, we've captured the daily lives of our 'comrades.'
By looking into the daily lives of 10 dogs, we can empathize with the various emotions our 'comrades' must have felt, such as loneliness, sadness, and love.
But the more important message is that it guides us to think about what pets truly desire as they live in diverse environments with diverse emotions, and what the most important promise humans must have when living with pets is.
? I have a dream
Kongi, the little puppy, is a puppy that was born only a few days ago.
I can't even open my eyes properly and my breathing is quiet.
All I do is sleep and writhe around with my brothers.
Kongi and his brothers, who wriggle around with their small bodies, are really cute.
“Puppy dreams are happy, warm, loving and sweet.”
Sundol is a dog that no one would envy.
When it's time for an event, I wear a nice bow tie, and when it rains, I wear a raincoat.
They also receive thorough grooming every day.
Every day, I eat only delicious meat and sleep under a cozy wool blanket.
You can even climb up onto the sofa as you please.
At home, Sundol is literally the king.
There is no place in the house that Sundol cannot go.
But is Sundol satisfied with this life?
Sundol dreams every day.
“I dream of rolling around in the mud, smelling snakes, and making friends with white-nosed donkeys.”
The tree is home alone from eight in the morning to five in the afternoon every day.
It's boring being alone.
When alone, the tree hunts.
It's a sock hunt.
He piles up socks in his house, whether they are long, short, or smelly.
And then I go inside and fall asleep.
The tree dreams while taking a nap.
“I had a dream that five o’clock in the afternoon passed quickly.”
So I hope my family returns soon and the once quiet house comes back to life.
? “We will be together forever…….”
Chocolate is no longer chocolate.
The moment the necklace and leash disappeared, everything changed.
Now I have no food and no home.
No one calls Choco's name.
“It was abandoned on the side of the road one day.”
“Now Choco’s name is just Dog.”
All Choco has left are his four legs.
Even if it rains, is cold, and the hot sun beats down, Choco just walks on all fours.
They wander around in search of food and shelter.
Hoping that I might meet my forgotten family someday.
Choco dreams every day.
“I had a dream where someone called my name again.”
A book that opens up a wide range of thoughts about life.
