Book Introduction
thirteen years old,
For half a year from the end of summer to winter
I'm down the basement stairs
It was behind the crescent-shaped stage.

When the sun goes down, I become a 'goblin' who hides underground.
My name is Kim Song-i, I am thirteen years old and in the sixth grade.
If it's singing, it's singing, if it's cheering, ... if it's drawing, it's drawing, and if it's math, it's number one.
A child who plays well, is fun, is popular, and studies well.
This is the ‘me’ that Songi created through her efforts.

During summer vacation, the house is destroyed, her father leaves home, and Songi ends up living in an empty store that her mother and her mother's friend told her about.
But I can't tell anyone.
That he lives in a basement bar (Cassiopeia) and that his entire family lives scattered all over the place.
The fact that Songi lives in a windowless warehouse behind the bar stage.
When night falls, Songi cannot come out of her room until the next morning.
On the crescent-shaped underground stage blocking the front of Songi's room, people get drunk and sing along all night long.
No one knows that there is a space behind that stage, that there is someone in that space.
Because Songi is a goblin who hides deep underground to avoid drunk people.

Climb the long, long stairs underground
The sunlight is so bright that it hurts my eyes.
I feel embarrassed even though I didn't do anything wrong.

Thirteen years old, Songi's way of living in 'Half Moon'!
“Let’s not be sad.
Let's not cry.
Don't be discouraged.
“Because I am a goblin.”
Every morning, Songi passes the crescent moon stage, climbs the underground stairs, and feels embarrassed as she transforms from a goblin to a thirteen-year-old Songi.
He's always on edge, afraid that he might smell like a basement, that someone might find out he's been living in the basement bar storage room.
The more this happens, the more passionate Songi becomes about school life.
Laugh, talk, draw, and study hard.

Publisher's Review
An autobiographical comic with an analog sensibility for the digital generation!
The 'half moon' doesn't cry!
Half Moon is an autobiographical coming-of-age comic by author Kim So-hee.
This is the author's dream of one day turning a story that he could not easily tell anyone 30 years ago into a comic book.
Crescent Moon has no exaggeration, no fantasy, and no humor.
The sincerity that flows throughout the book makes the reader feel not only sad but also moved to tears.
The expressions and psychological descriptions of the main character in each and every picture, painstakingly drawn, even give the feeling of looking at a secret diary.
Memories that are heartbreaking yet warm, lonely yet affectionate, burst out like drops of water.

“I found my path in life, and as I wandered along that path and came back again and again, I grew older.
And then I realized that everyone is on their own path.
If someone is sitting alone on the cold floor of a basement of misery, if someone is walking alone and lonely, I want to be the first person to say hello to those friends.”

Although Half Moon is set in the early fall of 1987, 30 years ago, it is not much different from our current situation.
Problems with friends, problems with family, problems with school… and even fears about the future.

Songi, who lives in a unique environment, is going through growing pains in her own way.
Instead of being angry and lost in the face of the unavoidable reality, focus on your inner self to the point of cowardice and try to understand and accept others.
You realize that only outer appearances can be hidden, and that the inner truth cannot be easily blocked, like water leaking through a cracked glass bottle.

On the day she meets Sook-hee, Song-i finally sheds the tears she had been holding back as she looks at the snow-covered sky.
Perhaps what Song-i wanted to protect was not the popular 'Kim Song-i' that she had worked hard to create, but the 'Goblin' that wanted to protect a friend in trouble, believe in those who cheered her on, and cherish memories.
Just as there are many paths in life, and each person takes a different path, Songi also follows her own path little by little.
Walk.
Just like the path of the goblin who lost his home and went into hiding, and the path of Kim Song-i who pretended nothing happened, I will now walk another path.

If you have a secret you don't want to tell anyone, or if you feel lonely and struggling, the crescent moon will be your best friend to cry with.
