“We all have our own story.”
A visually impaired person taking classes with assistance, a seventy-four-year-old grandfather sitting in front of an unfamiliar computer, a grandmother studying while undergoing chemotherapy, a mother raising children and writing at dawn, a young man who dreams of becoming a writer while making a living through part-time work…
At the end of a long day at work, people gathered together and smiled brightly on the monitor screen.
This is a scene from a meeting with students from the Department of Creative Writing at Sejong Cyber University during a writing class that has encouraged them to tell their own unique stories over the past eight years.
Even though I had to sacrifice sleep to read over 100 students' essays each semester and give them meticulous feedback, I always found it rewarding and rewarding to guide them into the world of writing.
In addition, there are over 2,000 people who have taken Gosuri's writing classes, including students I met at Changbi Academy, Trevari, and local bookstores.
I knew better than anyone else the hearts of those who wanted to write.
As much as I love writing, I've been afraid of it for a long time. Nevertheless, I've been deeply concerned about it and have taken on various challenges because I want to write well.
Because I am such a master, I wanted to share with more people the stories I have always emphasized and the questions I frequently get asked in writing classes.
I wanted to offer some kind encouragement to those who want to write but haven't started, or who find it difficult to write consistently, while also providing a little more practical help.

Into the book
The writer lives in the present.
Because every day I discover something, admire it, and write about it.
Even as I draw on my experiences, I change from day to day from the past.
Like a person who is reborn every day, I am faithful to the present and hopeful for the future.
I always have the words of determination, 'Nevertheless', in my heart.
The way and meaning to live like myself today and tomorrow.
That's why I write.
--- From "Introductory Note: Life Changes as You Write"
Trust yourself to write.
Treat yourself as a writer with the mindset of someone who teaches writing.
The desire to write, that's sincere.
Just treat yourself with sincerity as you write with sincerity.
Please believe in yourself.
That's all that matters.
--- 「1.
From "The One Thing I Want to Teach Anyone Who Wants to Write"
The story of my life, the experiences I want to remember, the inner changes that resulted from them, and the meaning of life that I was enlightened by through those changes are known only to me.
We all have a unique and beautiful story.
I hope you find out what it is.
The resonance of that moment when the unique story of that person's life, which has been collected without being written down, bursts forth is irrelevant, no matter how cryptic the writing is or how misspelled it is.
Every time I read something that feels like I'm facing a person's bare face, I fall in love right away.
--- 「2.
"After all, an essay is a story about life."
I wish more people would write their own stories.
It doesn't have to be just a book.
I hope that people who don't know their own hearts and want to live their lives their own way will write.
Writing is an encounter with oneself.
What kind of person am I, what thoughts and feelings do I have as I live, what tastes and hopes do I have as I live?
The more I write, the more I become myself.
Knowing who I am allows me to live my life concretely and independently.
If you want to become an expert in your own world, there's no better tool than writing.
--- 「3.
From "The more I write, the more I become my own writing"
What drives you to write? A driving mind, an absorbing mind, an observing mind, a calculating mind, a concluding mind.
The desire to write within you takes you to your desk and writes anything.
Take a closer look at what drives you to write, what drives you to continue writing.
If I try to keep that heart, it will become a strong resolve that protects me whenever I waver.
--- 「4.
From “The Mind that Faces Writing”
A writer writes as he lives.
So I try not to get too caught up in writing.
I need to create my own safe routine that balances a realistic life, a healthy body and mind, and my writing work.
As a writer, I believe that my ability is not a brilliant talent, but rather consistent sincerity.
I will read, write, and collect diligently every day.
I want to write for a long time, using the right method, at slow but sure steps.
--- 「5.
From “Routines and Rituals for Writing Well”
The truth of my life can only be written by me.
What I saw, what I experienced, what I felt.
How that moment affected me.
Why do I remember that moment?
If you go back and answer the questions that expand from your memories in detail, you will get closer to the truth.
Distorted memories are the hidden source of my current actions, language, thoughts, and attitudes.
Become a true chronicler of your life.
--- 「6.
Among the “Three Questions to Ask Before Starting Writing”
There is a saying, 'A sentence is three times the same.'
There is an old teaching that says, 'Write sentences that are easy to see, easy to understand, and easy to read', which is the three things a sentence should have.
The same goes for the beautiful writing in essays.
Sentences with three sentences rather than sentences decorated with empty words convey a simple and plain beauty to the reader.
If you have been writing abstract sentences out of habit, you can eliminate any misunderstandings that may be difficult for the reader to understand.
--- 「7.
From “Writing is specific, selective, and different”
I hope my writing isn't difficult for readers to read.
How can we convey the story of one person's life in a truthful and understandable way?
I want to write something universal for readers while still incorporating my own unique story.
I hope my writing will always be simple, universal, yet beautiful, and stay close to people like a story.
Because encouragement to cheer up isn't always positive and powerful.
Rather, people feel warm comfort even in simple and sad stories.
It's an easy read, but at times touching, so I hope it gives someone the strength to live.
--- 「8.
From “To write a piece that moves the heart”
For a piece that leaves a lasting impression, remove as much as possible from the draft.
Will the reader understand my story, will they sense the extent of my emotions, will they receive the message I am trying to convey?
As you think more, your explanations and embellishments tend to become longer.
In particular, there is a growing impatience to appeal emotionally.
In that case, be bold and take out everything that can be taken out.
Even just one sentence that you want to emphasize is enough.
The content of the writing and the burden on the mind must be reduced.
That's okay.
--- 「9.
From “Reflections that leave a lingering impression on the text”
The more you write and revise your writing, the better it gets.
It's very similar to life, where the more mistakes you make and the more you reflect on them, the better you become.
Please love yourself even if you are not perfect.
Please like my writing, even if it's not perfect.
The desire to do well takes precedence over the desire to like something.
--- 「10.
From "Why is writing difficult?"
If the first word in writing is 'courage,' I think the last word is 'continue.'
The only word I know that connects courage and continuation is 'again'.
Just write again and again.
Until you become yourself, until you understand other lives.
You don't need a grand reason to write.
Just liking it is enough.
If writing is something you've always wanted to do, something you hope to do, something you dream of, something you've always wanted to do, and if you want to live a long life as a writer, then I wholeheartedly affirm your future aspirations.
“That’s cool.
Now you can write.”
Because every day I discover something, admire it, and write about it.
Even as I draw on my experiences, I change from day to day from the past.
Like a person who is reborn every day, I am faithful to the present and hopeful for the future.
I always have the words of determination, 'Nevertheless', in my heart.

--- From "Epilogue: Now it's time to write"
Publisher's Review
“Every attempt is possible only if you believe in yourself.
“The story you need to write already exists within you.”
One-on-one writing lessons with author Gosuri, available through a single book
When did Gosuri, the author of the seventh book, “The Writer’s Sentence Transcription,” become a “writer”?
Because I didn't have the courage to pursue my future career as a writer, I chose a major that focused on prospects and started my career as a planning producer at an advertising company.
Nevertheless, Gosuri, who sat at the table every night and wrote, is the youngest writer in her late 20s and changed her career to a broadcast writer, which is a bit closer to writing.
The experience of making human documentaries and turning people's stories into life books led me more and more to writing about my own life.
I started writing on an anonymous blog, and then I found people who read my posts regularly. Then, I mustered up some more courage and decided to write every day for 30 days on a platform called Brunch, and that was the real start.
In July 2015, a month-long public serialization of the article drew readers' responses in the form of comments, and the number of subscribers increased in real time.
Her first book, We Can Walk in the Moonlight, was published in 2016, winning the Brunch Book Gold Prize later that year.
The excitement of publishing my first book was fleeting, but I began to fear that I had already written the most passionate story of my life, and that I would have nothing left to write about, and that I would never be able to write a book again.
Still, he believed that the only way to not lose himself was through writing, so three years later he published “This is how we love.”
Just when I was thinking I had reached rock bottom with dragging my life out, I got a third book offer.
The editor suggested a food essay, saying he was impressed by the episode about Mom's egg toast in the second book.
While thinking about how to write, I decided to write as if I was reporting on the story of three generations of mother and daughter: my grandmother, who was a haenyeo (female diver), my mother, and myself.
My experience as a writer for broadcast programs, planning and reporting, and my training in writing subtitles that describe the taste of food every day, were put to good use in creating unique and delicious expressions.
I successfully published the Ding series, “Mackerel: When I Think of My Mother, My Heart Feels Like the Sea.”
I thought I had nothing more to write, but it was an opportunity to discover a world that expanded beyond me.
And after reading the third book, another editor who fell in love with the writing suggested that I write a book on the topic of writing classes, which became the fourth book, “A Night of Writing.”
When writing, Gosuri emphasizes that rather than writing 'beautifully and wonderfully,' one should write 'sufficiently and without regrets.'
Let's write well, keeping our own focus, without worrying about other people's evaluations.
Let's keep writing until we become ourselves.
There is no better tool than writing to become an expert on your own world.
Now, let's fill in the possibilities one by one on the blank sheet of paper in front of us.
“I hope you continue to live your lives writing your own stories.
Those of you who look back on your life, find stories to write about, read books, write, revise, and try to write something again will have already become different people.
“Only I can know the change.” p.285
★ Review of Gosuri's Writing Class ★
- I will continue writing, receiving the love and courage you have given me.
- I was deeply comforted by the thought that 'there is someone who understands me' and 'there is someone who tells me to be brave' by pulling out the abyss of my heart that was trapped in a deep well inside me.
I was able to gain the strength and courage to live my life once.
- I hope that more people will continue to write by meeting writers who encourage them to keep writing, who make them feel the value of writing.
This time, I send my love and courage to writer Gosuri, who continues to write today to create such a world.
- After taking the author's class, I decided to write consistently.
At least one a day, consistently.
- The author's words gave me a firm pat on the shoulder.
I printed out the author's letters and put them up so I can look at them whenever I feel lost in front of a blank screen!
- My first writing teacher, who made me want to be a better person and keep writing good articles.
