Kim Mi-kyung's Forty Lessons Expanded Edition
Description
Book Introduction
The expanded edition of "Kim Mi-kyung's Forty Class," a bestseller that sparked a "forty craze" in South Korea in 2023, will be released. A compilation of Kim Mi-kyung's 30 years of self-development know-how The first public release of the 'Miracle Routine BOD' for those in their 40s! ≪Kim Mi-kyung's Forty Class≫, which created a 'forty fever' in bookstores in 2023, has returned in an expanded edition. This book, which achieved first place in all bookstores immediately after its release and sold over 200,000 copies in just 7 months, completely shatters our rigid stereotypes about 'forty.' The point is that we shouldn't look at today's 40s from the perspective of 30 years ago, when the average life expectancy was 80. 'Forty, which has changed in the era of the 100-year lifespan, is by no means the age of perfection. 'It's enough to solve only half of life's homework.' Forty-somethings who were struggling with the pressure to achieve everything in their 40s warmly sympathized with Kim Mi-kyung's words and were comforted. Furthermore, in this expansion, he advises, "Subtract 17 from my age." When the domestic population is lined up by year of birth, the age in the middle is called the 'median age'. According to Statistics Korea, the median age in 1994 was 29 years old, and in 2023, the median age will be 46 years old, a difference of 17 years in 30 years. Since the second half of life has become longer, you need to subtract 17 years to make your emotional and lifestyle age match reality. But even if you get younger, what's important is what comes next. Countless forty-somethings still ask him, "So what should I do from now on?" And that's how the core content of this expansion, "Miracle Routine BOD," came about. The study of adults in their forties must be different. People in their forties, with their heavy responsibilities at home and at work, cannot and should not run like they did in their twenties. It can only be sustained if you build it up steadily through a daily routine. BOD is a combination of Being, Organizing, and Doing, and is a self-growth and healing methodology that encapsulates Kim Mi-kyung's 30 years of self-development know-how. This expanded edition introduces the 'Miracle Routine BOD' for the first time and details it in 70 pages, including explanations of each BOD and how to keep a diary. "Kim Mi-kyung's Expanded Edition of Forty Classes" is the first comprehensive guidebook for those in their forties, covering everything from redefining forty to mindset and even methodologies you can implement on your own. |

Into the book
BOD is a kind of self-directed learning for life.
Life is like a giant school.
Every day we go to school and experience countless things.
I learn from my mistakes, I learn from the mistakes of others, I gain indirect experience, and I suffer from my own twisted mind.
And so, we make progress in life every day.
But as with all studies, if you just take the progress, it won't be yours.
If you don't have time for self-study to review, reflect on, and reflect on what you studied today, your skills won't improve.
I have been incorporating BOD into my life by writing in my diary for more than an hour every day.
This is how growth and healing in your forties can be sustainable.
―From the prologue, “Start with the Miracle Routine for Growth and Healing in Your Forties” Our country has particularly strong stereotypes about age.
The world has changed so quickly, yet age stereotypes often remain stuck 30 years ago.
So I always say subtract 17 from my age.
It's not an age that speaks like a proverb, it's not something that's said to make you feel good.
Now that life expectancy has suddenly increased, our current biological age may actually be an 'illusion'.
Age minus 17 from your current age.
That is the 'real age' and 'lifestyle age' that you will actually live to be 100 years old.
If you are 49 years old now, your lifestyle age is 32.
In reality, you have to live like a 32-year-old to fit the life cycle of the 100-year-old era.
--- From "Subtract 17 from my age"
It's scary to start something new at forty.
Since I started late, I feel anxious to find something better than others and complete it quickly.
In times like these, you need to approach things with more leeway.
I need to start with something I like and slowly perfect it over a period of about 10 years.
I started out doing something I love, so if it goes well and I can help someone, and if it turns into a career, even better.
Even if it doesn't work out, it's a huge success if I have something to enjoy for the rest of my life.
Forty is a good age to start doing what you love.
The impatience and haste that you have to achieve something within 10 years can actually be poisonous.
Don't make the mistake of being overwhelmed by your age of forty and not being able to start doing things you like.
Even if you start with something you like, forty is a generous age.
--- From "I Don't Know What I Like"
Forty is a time of great transformation that requires a change in calculation methods.
Success is just one of many subjects in life.
Life is never evaluated in one subject, but in all subjects.
When people die, it's not their successes that they regret most, but their accomplishments.
Forty is a really good age to change the calculation method like this.
Because I have run towards success, realized my limitations, and know what values I truly desire.
From experience, once you reach your mid-40s, your ears start to change.
It's about changing your ears to listen to stories of accomplishment, not just success.
--- From "Life is not about success, but about 'achievement'"
B is an abbreviation for Being, and it is a time to talk to my existence.
The most important essential time among BODs, it is like the heart of the routine.
There needs to be a proper time during the day for me to talk to myself, so that I can heal my wavering heart and steer my life in the direction I want. O is Organizing, which is the time to organize my daily schedule and is like the head of the routine.
It is time to organize and prioritize the answers from the time of being within a specific day.
As you accumulate organizing know-how, you will use your time more efficiently and your execution skills will also improve. D is Doing, which acts as the arms and legs to execute the routine.
Most of the day is spent executing tasks that have been organized in advance.
As I said before, when the Doing is accumulated diligently, the body becomes smarter and during the time of Being, my existence asks much wiser questions than before.
In this way, the three axes of BOD are closely connected to each other, and when they operate smoothly, they create a tremendous synergy effect.
--- From "Miracle Routine BOD: Creating the Life You Want"
Just as bones become twisted and discs become damaged when carrying heavy loads for a long time, the human mind also becomes twisted when burdened by pain.
The human mind is distorted the next day as much as the stress I received that day.
If we continue to live in this distorted state, even our very existence will be distorted.
So, ‘chiropractic’ of the mind is absolutely necessary.
There must be a time of healing to restore a twisted mind to normal, like setting bones in place.
That's the time of being.
If you're over forty, you should be able to provide comfort, empathy, and healing to yourself.
Comfort from others can be helpful, but ultimately, only I can solve the big questions in my life.
There is actually a greater being within me that solves and heals my problems.
Once you properly solve the Big Question, you too will meet that being.
And you can solve any number of small questions that arise every day.
--- From "Being, a time to heal yourself through reflection and introspection"
If we look at our day, we see that most of it is spent making a living.
Office workers spend an average of 8 hours a day working.
Self-employed people and freelancers will likely spend a third or more of their day making a living, although there may be individual differences.
The remaining third is spent sleeping, and the remaining third is spent preparing for work, commuting, taking short breaks, or taking care of the household.
In fact, the day revolves around the time of livelihood.
The most important thing in organizing is to break this inertia and arrange 'different times'.
Of course, livelihood is a very important axis of the day, but there are two other axes besides this.
You must arrange these two times within a day: the Time of Being and the Time of Miracle.
--- From "Organizing: How to Plan a Day of Achievement Every Day"
Doing is a conscientious executor.
A person who unconditionally executes the daily schedule presented by the planner every day.
Of course, there will be countless reasons why you shouldn't do it in the middle.
The doubt of 'what will happen if I do this' will tempt you in real time.
But since I wrote it in my diary, I'll trust the smart planner inside me and go for it.
If the executor keeps nagging, a major accident will occur where the planner becomes powerless and cannot even dream of doing anything for himself.
We call it 'giving up'.
Let's trust the planner and go forward like an honest executor.
And let's build up our confidence by clearing tasks one by one.
If I succeed in just one week, I will find myself applauding myself wholeheartedly and becoming much more confident than I was yesterday.
--- From "Duying, the honest executor who completes BOD"
Writing a BOD diary has brought about many changes in my daily life.
I've been talking to myself, managing my schedule, and working hard every day my whole life, but now that I've organically connected and integrated them through BOD, I definitely feel like there's synergy.
As problems that had been piled up in the warehouse as homework for a long time began to be solved, I became emotionally stable and more relaxed when dealing with people.
Above all, the fear and anxiety that used to overwhelm me as soon as I opened my eyes in the morning have largely disappeared.
The problem is still there, but my approach to it has changed.
Every morning, when I discover myself like that, the time I spend writing my diary is the happiest time of my day.
Life is like a giant school.
Every day we go to school and experience countless things.

Publisher's Review
★ Expanded edition of the 2023 bestseller "Kim Mi-kyung's Forty Class," chosen by 200,000 people
★ A complete guide, from redefining forty to specific methodologies!
★ The Miracle Routine BOD, a compilation of Kim Mi-kyung's 30 years of self-development know-how, is now revealed for the first time.
A book that changed the paradigm of forty
How to maintain balance in life in the changing 100-year lifespan
Subtract 17 from my current age!
Kim Mi-kyung's Forty Class, which became a bestseller for 22 consecutive weeks in the first half of 2023 and created a "forty fever" in Korea, is a book that changed the paradigm of those in their 40s.
Until now, forty has been synonymous with 'completion' or 'stability'.
At the same time, it had a strong image as the 'peak of life' and 'the beginning of the downhill path to retirement and old age.'
But what is the reality?
Far from stability, I am incredibly busy at work and at home, and the future is uncertain.
With real estate prices skyrocketing, owning a home is still a distant dream.
Moreover, raising young children and sending them to college requires at least 30 more years of earning. Those who lose their way between the "forty I knew" and the "forty of reality" end up blaming themselves.
I fall into self-reproach for not being able to achieve stability because I am incompetent and lacking.
Kim Mi-kyung is the first to say this to a South Korean man in his 40s.
“You have not lived wrongly.
There's only one thing wrong with this: the stereotype that you have to achieve everything and find stability by the time you're forty.
“Forty is an age where anything can happen, but it is by no means an age where everything is complete.”
These are not just words to comfort people in their 40s.
We should not look at today's 40-year-olds from the perspective of 30 years ago, when the average life expectancy was 80 years.
In the age of 100, the position and role of those in their 40s have changed dramatically in the changing life cycle.
In particular, in this expanded version, Kim Mi-kyung even says, "Subtract 17 from my age."
When the domestic population is lined up by year of birth, the age in the middle is called the 'median age'.
According to Statistics Korea, the median age in 1994 was 29 years old, and in 2023, the median age will be 46 years old, a difference of 17 years in 30 years.
Since the second half of life is much longer, you need to subtract 17 years to make your emotional and lifestyle age more realistic.
He also says that living dynamically like that is the only way to maintain balance in life until you are 100 years old.
This is the most realistic advice and the greatest comfort that only Kim Mi-kyung, a South Korean female mentor who herself lives like a 42-year-old, can give.
The 200,000 readers who read this book also say that they gained new hope and courage from her story, which broke the stereotypes of those in their 40s for the first time.
The study of adults over 40 must be different!

'Miracle Routine BOD' First Release
This expanded edition is a kind of 'supplementary lesson' with the readers.
The author published "Kim Mi-kyung's Forty Class" and hosted a program called "Miracle Morning" every Monday.
As I interacted with the countless people I met there, I encountered new questions that the book could not fully address.
Breaking the stereotype of 40, a problem that can't be solved by subtracting 17 from my age.
"So what should I do from now on?" Good books and lectures are essential life lessons for those in their forties.
But as with all studies, you can't make it yours by just taking the progress.
If you don't have time for self-study to review, reflect on, and reflect on what you studied today, your skills won't improve.
The comfort and courage that "Kim Mi-kyung's Forty Lessons" provides are bound to fade with time.
So, is there no way for readers to continuously grow and heal themselves through "self-directed life learning"? The answer to this desperate question lies in the "Miracle Routine Book of Documents," the core content of the expanded edition.
BOD is a combination of Being, Organizing, and Doing, and is a method of self-growth and healing that encapsulates Kim Mi-kyung's 30 years of self-development know-how.
For the past 30 years, Kim Mi-kyung has written a diary almost every day, creating a "Miracle List" to communicate with her inner self and help her grow and heal.
I also wrote this down in my diary, planned my day faithfully, and kept my promise to myself with consistent execution.
That was the driving force that enabled Kim Mi-kyung to maintain her position as the best instructor in Korea for 30 years.
This expanded edition introduces the 'Miracle Routine BOD' for the first time and details it in Chapter 5, which includes explanations of each BOD and how to keep a diary.
The author emphasizes that this is 'the study of a true adult over 40' and that if readers can just apply BOD to their own lives, anyone can lead the life they want on their own initiative.
