We take a closer look at 'Bong Joon-ho's plan' that led to [Parasite]!

Director Bong Joon-ho's [Parasite] script and storyboard book will be published as a single volume.
The movie [Parasite] is a story about the meeting between two families that begins when Ki-woo, the eldest son of the unemployed Ki-taek family, enters the home of the CEO Park family for an interview for a high-paying tutoring position, and how the meeting escalates into an uncontrollable incident.
Director Bong Joon-ho, who has left a clear mark on Korean film history with monstrous works that have captured both artistic value and popularity, such as [Mother], [The Host], and [Memories of Murder], has been recognized as a world-class master once again by winning the Palme d'Or at the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival with [Parasite], receiving rave reviews saying, “Bong Joon-ho has finally become a genre.”


The screenplay and storyboard for the film [Parasite], which has received enthusiastic support from critics and the public, are even more special in that they were written and drawn by director Bong Joon-ho himself.
[Parasite] The script itself is an interesting read.
Director Bong Joon-ho's trademark sharp insight into society, his unconventional imagination, and his blend of comedy, thriller, horror, and other genres create a shockingly entertaining film that instantly immerses viewers.
The movie also includes bonus scenes that were unfortunately edited out and not shown in the film.

This interview, conducted by Cine21 reporter Da-hye Lee, a film journalist and writer, focuses on the literary genre of 'screenplay' and 'Bong Joon-ho the writer', providing an opportunity to look into his cinematic world from a new angle.


Director Bong Joon-ho, who was a comic book fanatic enough to dream of becoming a cartoonist as a child and even serialized cartoons in the school newspaper during his college years, is also famous for drawing storyboards for his films himself rather than leaving them to professional writers.
[Parasite], which still existed only in the mind of the renowned director Bong Joon-ho, was sketched on paper by Bong Joon-ho himself and became the skeleton of the film. Through this storyboard, you can see [Parasite] at the stage right before the staff and actors put flesh on the film.
Director Bong Joon-ho's detailed notes on camera positions, character movements, and other details he meticulously observed from the storyboard stage are also preserved intact, making it an interesting read for those studying film as well as film fans who want to enjoy films in a more diverse way.
