Book Introduction
“A sweet, heartwarming picture book that will delight both children and adults” (Publisher's Weekly)
Encountering the profound relationship between humans and nature through picture books

When we think of the word 'nature', we usually imagine things like the stars pouring down in the night sky, a dense forest surrounded by trees, flowers in full bloom, birds chirping incessantly every morning, or ants busily carrying food.
So most city dwellers, trapped in concrete apartments, feel that this natural world has nothing to do with them.
But American children's book author Misha Maynerick Blaise challenges these stereotypes.
For her, nature is not a special place or flora and fauna that can only be discovered by going on a grand camping trip to 'that faraway place'.
She says that every moment of every day, wherever we are, whether we're sitting in a car on a jam-packed commute or standing in a stuffy subway car, humans live as beings deeply connected to all living things in nature.

Misha wanted to remind people of these facts through her illustrations.
That's why I made this book, "The Amazing Life," into a very scientific, profound, inspiring and profound book.

For example, the artist depicted the faces of a man and a woman sitting apart on a chair, not with pretty eyes, noses, and mouths, but with over 10,000 'clouds of microorganisms', including bacteria, yeast, and viruses living in the soil, interconnected.

This book makes us think deeply about how we live in connection with nature, and is filled with loving stories about respect for life.
Publishers Weekly praised the book, calling it “a sweet reminder of our interconnectedness with the universe, a lovely picture book that everyone will love.”

Breathing life into the connection between humans and nature

Did you know that fungi, which help enrich soil, are genetically more similar to humans than to plants? This is because fungi and animals share a shared evolutionary history.
Moreover, the growth pattern of the mycelial network is remarkably similar to a visual model of the Internet and to the networking of neurons that carry information in the human body.
If so, it would no longer be surprising that fungi share more than half their DNA with humans, and that they breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide like we do.

Is that all? Just like humans, plants can see and hear, sense and taste, sense gravity and the presence of water, and change direction to avoid obstacles.
The author also cites examples such as ants that breed aphids, the calls of brown thrushes that harmonize well with human music, and chimpanzees that hunt using sharp sticks as spears, proving how closely connected humans, plants, and animals are.
It even extends the close connection between humans and nature to the universe by informing us that the substances that make up most of the human body are the same four elements (oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, and nitrogen) that make up most of the universe.

To create this remarkable book, the author spent considerable time collecting and organizing vast amounts of data and papers from National Geographic, Smithsonian Magazine, the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
And he breathed life into this picture book by expressing it with his own scientific, warm, and beautiful words and colorful, fantastic, and powerful illustrations.
Therefore, I am confident that anyone, not just those who enjoy natural science or are interested in things like the origin of the universe, will be completely absorbed by this book and will receive enjoyment, inspiration, and scientific information along with it.
