Suspicious Rose Village
Description
Book Introduction
A coming-of-age novel about an alienated boy who learns the warmth of community.

Jinwoo, who lives alone with his grandfather, is a 'player who plays alone'.
Jinwoo, who lives in his imagination and closes his heart, doesn't have a single close friend. He moves around as easily as eating, and the new place he moved to is Rose Village.
This village, where there are not many people and only roses in full bloom like the warm spring sunshine, is both suspicious and good to Jinwoo.
There, I was able to earn money by cleaning the playground in place of Grandpa Kim Geut-dal, who had injured his leg.
The reason Jinwoo was so lucky was thanks to his grandfather, Typhoon, who did public service.
Grandpa Typhoon, who especially adores Jinwoo, is Jinwoo's second favorite grandfather because he always buys him delicious food and even lets him do part-time jobs.

Thanks to Grandpa Typhoon, Jinwoo begins cleaning the playground in Rose Village and discovers a new world.
Darim, who is good at sports and fighting and resembles the mythical figure Jacheongbi; Wooyeon, who has a baggy shirt and fights with Darim because of the playground; Dongmin, the son of a junk dealer with a deep conscience; Gwanggyu, who is selfish and has a square jaw and a strong desire to win; Dongmin's father who suffers from depression, etc.
For Jinwoo, who lived every day only in his imagination, the friends and neighbors he met at the Rose Village playground changed everything for him.
Children fighting to take over the playground, Jinwoo who likes Darim who resembles Jacheongbi, and Darim who likes Jinwoo like that, show us the world of our children as it is.
Let's meet the coming-of-age novel "Suspicious Rose Village," in which the marginalized 13-year-old Jinwoo learns the warmth of community through his friends and neighbors.

Into the book
“There is no one.
Think back to when you lived in a goshiwon.
There were really a lot of people.
“It’s suspicious.”
Jinwoo quickly took a notebook out of his back pocket.
This is a notebook that my grandfather gave me a few days ago. It's easy to put in my back pocket, and I really like the cover illustration of a spaceship landing on the moon.
I took out the ballpoint pen that was stuck in my notebook and let the black lead come out.
“There are more than one or two suspicious things about this town.
“I have to write it down.”
Jinwoo wrote “Suspicious Rose Village” in his notebook.

'But, what, I'm your friend? A friend?'
Jinwoo suddenly felt all the strength drain from his body.

I was lying on the sandy floor, warmed by the sunlight, thinking, "How strange."

“I have no friends.”
Jinwoo muttered softly.

“Did he really say we were friends?”
I wanted to take out my notebook and write down in the 'Suspicious Events' series, 'The most suspicious event that has ever happened in Rose Village.'

It didn't seem like Jinwoo's curiosity would be satisfied just by writing it down in his notebook.

The only person who could answer my questions was Darim.

Darim disappeared in an instant, causing a sandstorm.

The eyes of the three people looking at the rose playground were similar.
The three of them became friends because of their love for the rose playground.
'Maybe we can play together in the rose garden.'
Jinwoo put down the trash bag and started walking towards Wooyeon.
I've never walked into someone's heart before.

It was a first for Jinwoo.

Publisher's Review
The story of a boy who goes from being a bystander to a member of society.

This novel has no major events or fantasy elements.
Rather, it feels like a glimpse into the languid and ordinary daily life of some children in the outskirts.
So you might be wondering, 'What could be suspicious?'
But to 13-year-old Jinwoo, the everyday life and friends of this ordinary neighborhood are incredibly suspicious.
The neighborhood was suspicious, with no people and only roses in full bloom. Darim, who resembles a hawk, was even more suspicious. Wooyeon, who wears a baggy shirt, Dongmin, the son of a junk dealer, and Gwanggyu, who has a square jaw, are all suspicious friends.
To Jinwoo, who meets his mother in his imagination, becomes Iron Man, and meets Jacheongbi, the stories of his friends were stories of people from another world.
The novel follows the perspective of Jin-woo, who has been hovering around as a bystander.
In this way, we naturally meet our neighbors.
Through the stories of various people, including Grandpa Typhoon, who makes a living as a public servant, Grandpa Nostalgia, Grandpa Kim Geut-dal, who makes a living collecting waste paper, and Dong-min's family, who runs a junk shop, we come face to face with the role of adults and the power of community.
A coming-of-age novel that calmly unravels the inner pain and struggles of Jin-woo, trapped in an imaginary world due to the absence of his family. A story of comfort, healing, and friendship. Let's discover the message of Jin-woo's "Suspicious Rose Village."

A word from the author

That day, I saw with my own eyes the children playing at the playground.
Some kids I know would stop by the playground between academies.
The teacher was teaching us to play, not to study.
The teacher would wait for the children at the playground and play badminton and hopscotch with them. He said that there would be nothing better than the children being able to play at the playground for a little while on their way to and from the academy.
I thought, 'Wow, this teacher is sincere. He really wants to teach children how to play.'
Perhaps, at this very moment, you, the reader, are also making friends at the playground in between going from one academy to another.
