The truth that only you don't know
Description
Book Introduction
Small kindnesses and affections towards others You can change more than you think! “I am sending a letter to the Engi Cinema staff responsible for my death.” Highly recommended by author Kim Seon-yeong of "The Shop That Sells Time"! “Why is it my fault that you died?” Seven months after Jegal Yun jumped from the school rooftop, A photo of four letters is posted in the open chat room of Nakyung High School. “I am sending a letter to the Engi Cinema staff responsible for my death…” The truth that teachers and friends have ignored, the voice of the heart, is revealed. “As the world progresses, has our humanity also improved?” In a time of growing indifference to others, the power of kindness and affection must not be forgotten. According to psychological analysis results released by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, 94% of those considering extreme choices show signs of danger in advance. Just recognizing these signs and listening to their story can go a long way in preventing suicide. Yet, how many 'Zhuge Yuns' have we failed to protect and sent away? "The Truth Only You Don't Know" also begins with the tragedy of a child. The story of the letter incident and those left behind, which flows mysteriously without any answers as to who spread the letter of the dead Jegal Yun and what they hope to gain from this revelation, is described throughout in a calm and cool tone. The characters who, despite the departure of one person, were quick to make false excuses for their own safety, evaded responsibility, and either failed to notice Zhuge Yun's signals or ignored them thinking they would be okay even if they did notice, all resemble us. However, the power of author Kim Ha-yeon's writing comes from her 'faith in people.' Even in the dry atmosphere that draws out the tension of the play, it does not give up hope for the love and affection that humans should possess. That is why, even in a story that seems cruel and bitter, we witness the hope that 'what helps us endure today when we want to give up is just a little affection.' What we have to do is give our hearts to another Jegal Yun in this world. Small acts of kindness and affection towards others can change more than you think. -From the creative notes There are still many 'Jegal Yuns' around us. To protect someone who has nowhere to turn, whether it be a teacher, family, or friends, all it takes is a little affection. In these times when indifference to others spreads like wildfire, this novel will remind us of the great power of 'small acts of kindness toward others.' |

Mr. Jegal Yun has come in.
Hello, students of Nakyung High School.
Are you getting used to my empty seat now?
responsible for my death,
Send a letter to each of the four members of the Engi Cinema Club.
But everyone, please click and read.
Because you too cannot be free from my death.
And anyone can become a victim of such an incident.
No one knows what the future holds.
Isn't that right?

Next to the principal's office door was a small wooden box made of the same wood as the door.
The student council also took issue with this wooden box.
The reason was that it was located in a place that was difficult for students to access.
“I open the Voice of Truth box every morning at exactly 8:15.
All the notes I've received so far have been of trivial content.
The homeroom teacher only likes so-and-so.
The braised lotus root served in the school lunch is hard.
The door to the women's bathroom on the second floor won't lock.
At one point, I thought about getting rid of that wooden box because it was so annoying, but I didn't.
Because it was a promise I made to the students.
But today, I really regret not getting rid of it sooner.”
The principal handed me a white envelope.
Inside the envelope was a rectangular USB drive and a typed, printed note.
To Principal Michaela Kim Ok-kyung,
Responsible for the death of student Jegal Yun
Please thoroughly investigate the four members of the Engi Cinema Club.
And until 4pm on November 16th
Announce appropriate punishment on the school main building bulletin board.
If this is not followed, what they did and the tacit approval of Nakyung High School
I will report this directly to the relevant education office along with the evidence.
Hyunjin looked at the front and back of the envelope.
The name of the person who sent this note was, of course, not written anywhere.

“This is the last question.
Soyoung, why do you think Yoon-i died?
“Oh, really.
Sam, I've told the police that many times.
He said that he felt so lonely because his mother suddenly passed away.
Well, I didn't know that at the time.
I didn't know Jegal Yun knew everything inside and out.
Yes, as it was written in the open chat room, I don't know if he died because of us.
Does saying this make you feel better? Sam probably thinks I'm the only bad kid.
I've had a hard time forcing myself to go out with him until now.
My mom told me to become friends with Jegal Yun, whom I will meet soon.
"Isn't that the kind of gaslighting that's been so prevalent on TV these days? Sam, just know that I've been suffering, too."
Soyoung barely managed to keep her gaze, which was constantly directed towards the cross, fixed on Hyunjin's face.
"You'll keep my story a secret, right? If anyone else asks about the letters, can you just tell them they're all fake? Okay?" --- p.76
The day before he jumped from the rooftop, Yoon waited for him after the club meeting, saying he had something to say.
If only I had been a little more careful, if only I had thought a little more deeply, I could have prevented Yun's death.
That day might have been the last chance.
Hyunjin didn't tell anyone about that meeting.
Hyunjin, overcome with shame for failing to protect the student and fear of being reprimanded for it, eventually kept her mouth shut.
Is the kid who posted a letter in the open chat room and sent a bold threatening letter to the principal's office still on Jegal Yun's side?
Was he doing this to reveal the truth surrounding his death, a truth that might be buried forever if he didn't come forward?
But who is that child?
It's not that there aren't any children who can guess... ... .
A long sigh was heard from the other side.
Dongho stared at Hyunjin again.
"Is it over now?" --- p.100
“Teacher, do you know what hell is like?”
Hyunjin blinked at the unexpected question.
“Isn’t that… a place where sinners die and are punished?”
“The reason the punishment is so painful is because there is no hope that the situation can change.
Hell is a place where there is no hope.
The reason that child took his life at Nakyung High School was probably because he saw no hope there.
If I could keep this position, I would like to change too.
If I could comfort even one heart, if I could give even a little hope, what wouldn't I do?
I know you've had a hard time, sir.
I tried hard.
“I called you to say this, not to reprimand you.”
"no.
I'm sorry for disappointing you.
“What should I do now?”
The principal sat back down in his chair.
And then he straightened his back and looked straight at Hyunjin.
A familiar majesty enveloped the small body again.
“The school violence committee will be convened as soon as the situation is ready.
The steering committee is also there.
We each need to prepare what we can do and wait.
That's all."
Hyunjin nodded.
And I muttered to myself.
yes.
I will do my job too.
--- p.155
“I wish those things had never happened to Yoon-i in the first place.
If Sunggyu and Woojin hadn't taken those pictures, and Soyoung had confessed the truth, Yooni would still be with us.
But no matter how honest and upright you live, bad things will inevitably happen.
It would have been nice if Yoon-i had been with someone instead of alone.
What keeps me going on these days when I want to give up is just a little bit of affection.
No one could do that to Yooni.
“Yoon-i’s death is ultimately our responsibility.”
welcome.
