『Paint』, 『Nana』 Lee Hee-young's new works!
My own sky color, 『Challenge Blue』, that moves from the deep night to the unknown dawn.
"Paint" by Lee Hee-young, a message of healing and support captured in a fantasy narrative.
The first book in the [Changbi Education Coming-of-Age Novel] series is a full-length novel, "Challenge Blue," written by Lee Hee-young, author of "Paint," which sold 300,000 copies, and filled with messages of healing and encouragement through her own unique ideas.
Lee Hee-young displayed her own provocative imagination through works such as “Paint” and “Nana.”
In this new work, the scope of imagination has been broadened, and another world has been drawn by adding fantasy characters and devices to a narrative that realistically depicts the youth of today.
“Even though it is the same sky, night and dawn feel completely different.
There is a sentence that says, “All challenges in the world require courage, and having courage is a challenge in itself.”
The author wanted to comfort young people who felt that their lives were becoming increasingly dark.
So, paradoxically, 『Challenge Blue』 does not conclude with Barim overcoming adversity and achieving success.
The author conveyed the message that for 'us' who are hurt by the pressures of schoolwork, dreams, and the future, conflict, worry, choice, and regret are all great challenges.

Into the book
“If the river wants to see a wider world, it can fly.”
“Fly?”
Barim asked.
The child smiled faintly.
“It’s like becoming a cloud.”
I hadn't thought that far ahead.
Water can fly, or rather, it can fly because it is water.
I want to see the wide world, so I become a cloud.
--- p.13
Olje is a pure Korean word for 'tomorrow'.
It means to come again today and tomorrow, and it also means to hope that tomorrow will be better than today.
Isn't the name pretty? Cafe Olje.
But what's even cooler is that there's a comma in front of the word "olje."
"what do you mean?"
Not only 'Olje' but also the comma before it was strange.
As expected of an aunt who can't stand being curious, I asked the cafe owner what it meant.
“Tomorrow must go through today.
So, it means take a break before going tomorrow.
"Isn't that cafe owner's idea really brilliant? How did he come up with the idea of putting a comma before the word 'tomorrow'? There are so many geniuses in the world."
--- p.104~105
“If we’re going to make it, wouldn’t it be better to go with a more vibrant blue color to symbolize starting the day?
“It would be nice to have more colors to express the world.”
"which?"
The child thought for a moment, then a faint smile appeared on his lips.
“How about ‘Challenge Blue’ to take on a new challenge each day?”
At those words, Barim frowned.
Words like challenge and achievement were breathtaking just to think about.
Things to do, problems to solve, dreams to achieve.
Because everything weighs down on both shoulders like the hands of a giant. (178
“There are times in life when you have to go your own way.
“I don’t want to stop, but I can’t stop… … .”
Barim's voice dissipated powerlessly into the air.
At the same time, Ire's smile quickly disappeared.
“A person who wanders the path is a loser.
“It’s not like I can’t find my way at all.”
“…….”
“How many people are there in life who are not lost?”
--- p.245
Some said already, others said just now.
At eighteen, some children picked up a new brush, while others eventually put it down.
People told everyone the same thing: it was too late.
Is it really that late? I'm only eighteen.
“I remembered.
number.
I'll untie everything that's tied up tightly with my own strength.
“Please wait.”
--- p.262
If it is truly fate and destiny, we will meet again.
It is not limited to human relationships.
If you don't forget anyone or anything, you will meet again someday.
Like Haemi, who started art again, Barim also thought that that day would come someday.
I wonder if there will ever be a day again when I suddenly feel like I'm going crazy and want to start painting, when my heart flutters at the sight of a blank sheet of paper and I feel so happy as I squeeze paint onto my palette.
--- p.274
“But the sky that opens the dawn looks much brighter.
“How about Challenge Blue?”
The child's voice filtered into my ears softly like a spring breeze.
A challenge doesn't necessarily mean moving forward.
Sometimes, standing still is another challenge.
Even though it is the same sky, night and dawn feel completely different.
Every challenge in the world requires courage, and having courage is a challenge in itself.
Barim finally realized the truth.

Publisher's Review
Challenge Blue, my own sky color that moves from the deep night to the unknown dawn.
gradation.
The dictionary definition is to make one side darker and the other side gradually lighter when coloring. A similar word is gradation.
Neul, Yeoul, Haemi, Ugeum, and Su are names related to rivers, the sea, or water.
The word 'Ire', meaning seven days, signifies the time we live in.
Water flows from valleys to rivers and then to the sea, where it can be absorbed by tree roots, drunk by animals, or become clouds.
Ultimately, if we combine the names of the characters, we can infer that our lives, like water, do not know where they will end up, and do not settle on a specific goal, but rather change in various ways like a gradation.
In the story of Aunt Yeoul and Ugeum, Yeoul ran away to another country right before her wedding, and in the process, she was conflicted, worried, and regretful.
And just as fallen leaves in a river surrender themselves to the flow of water, the two people who had quietly surrendered their lives on the path of time met again as if it were true fate and destiny, and accepted the time that had passed.
Soo told Barim that the name of the 'sky color that goes from night to dawn' was 'Challenge Blue', and thought, "If we're going to make it, wouldn't it be better to make it a little more vibrant blue, as it signifies the start of the day?
“It would be nice to have more colors to express the world,” he says.
And to Barim, “I will continue to wait for you.
“No matter what choice you make, I will be there,” he says.
Barim was envious of Haemi and Ire as they decided on their own paths and worked hard.
But in fact, they too were worried about their uncertain future.
Everyone has a dream.
And for that dream, we worry, challenge ourselves, and sometimes regret it.
To 'us' who are hurt by the pressure of schoolwork, dreams, and the future
A message of healing and encouragement from Lee Hee-young, author of "Paint."
Barim frowns when Soo mentions 'Challenge Blue' as the new name for 'the color of the sky that goes from night to dawn.'
Words like challenge and achievement were so suffocating that even the mere thought of them made her suffocate. (p. 178) Baram, who had slipped on an icy road and hurt her hand, actually wore slippers on slippery floors even though she knew she could get hurt, and when she fell, she deliberately put her right hand on the ground.
Even if we only look at the Monday blues that adults experience or the new semester syndrome that children experience due to psychological burden, it would be difficult to criticize Barim's behavior as self-harm.
Not only young people, but many people living in Korean society will feel like racehorses running toward "challenge and achievement," swayed by the carrot of "their own happy future" and the whip of "ability, tests, and competition."
So, paradoxically, the author did not conclude with Barim overcoming adversity and achieving success.

Every challenge in the world requires courage, and having courage is a challenge in itself.
Barim finally realized the truth.
This sentence may read as a cliché.
For another example, we know that a person who accumulates virtue internally and studies the principles of things externally to benefit the world is a 'gentleman'.
But becoming a gentleman is not an easy task.
In her recommendation, Kim Min-ryeong also said, “In short, there is a world that can only be encountered by stopping.
“We all need these moments, even if we’re not confused teenagers,” he wrote.
In "Challenge Blue," the author argues that if you've decided to do something yourself, it's not just the challenge of achieving your goal, but also the courage to look back on the present that's truly remarkable.
