That man Moses
That man Moses
Description
Book Introduction
“This book is a gift for all Christians walking in the wilderness during this pandemic!”
- Recommended by Kim Hoe-kwon, Park Dae-young, Song Tae-geun, and Jeon Seong-min

“The human Moses, restored through in-depth research and literary imagination,
“A message for our time, delivered with prophetic consciousness and pastoral sensibility!”

This book is a refined and supplemented version of the words I shared with the congregation at my church in the spring of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic was raging worldwide.

Many people consider Moses a man worthy of respect, but not someone to emulate or learn from.
But the Bible introduces him as “this man Moses” (Numbers 12:3).
Moses was a human being just like us.
That is why his personal history is so significant to us today.
This is especially true now, when everyone seems to have been driven into the wilderness due to COVID-19.

This book is structured around 17 keywords encountered on the journey of faith.
Faith, growth, wilderness, training, experience, calling, obedience, sacrifice, justice, adversity, choice, conflict, life, spirituality, humility, death, and even providence—all issues that a believer encounters on his or her life's journey are covered.

As you read through each chapter, you'll encounter topics you're vividly experiencing in your daily life, as well as topics you haven't yet considered.
I hope that by not simply reading and understanding it, but reflecting on it with various questions, applying it to one's life, and sharing it within the community, you will discover and learn the jewel-like wisdom necessary to walk the path of faith and navigate the wilderness.
If we do so, we will progress in our work of finding our way in the wilderness and living as sojourners who reveal the kingdom of God in this world.

Into the book
Since the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented people from gathering at church, many people have had their religious life put on hold.
If this condition persists, you may reach a state of spiritual numbness and may end up leaving the church permanently even after everything returns to normal.
That is why the wilderness situation we find ourselves in now may be a crisis of faith for some.
But you can also turn this period into a spiritual opportunity.
If we learn and practice 'how to live without' during this period, we can develop a spiritual constitution that will enable us to live as people of faith in any situation.
If that happens, when everything returns to normal, we will be able to properly practice our faith, and even when we are no longer able to gather in church, we will still be able to live as believers.
---From "Chapter 4: Podium - Deficiency is Opportunity"

When we judge people, we tend to remember and evaluate them based on vague or accidental impressions.
The same goes for Moses.
When people think of Moses, images that come to mind include confronting the king of Egypt, parting the Red Sea with his staff, coming down from Mount Sinai with the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, and raging at the people who were rioting over the golden calf.
Such appearances make us think of Moses as a god-like being.
They think of themselves as people who reign over the people with untouchable spiritual authority, commanding, judging, and rebuking them.
But a closer look at the records of Moses from Exodus to Deuteronomy reveals a man who is quite different from the image we generally have of Moses.
