Into the book
Autumn entered the room, leaving her grandmother and mother behind.
He banged his shoulders with his fist.
It's not just Grandma and Mom who are tired.
Autumn is also hard because I have to help the two at school.
My grandmother keeps talking about her age, and while 15 and 55 might seem like a big age difference, 515 and 555 aren't that different.
Autumn has grown old enough and lived enough.
But there's nothing we can do about it, because once a granddaughter, always a granddaughter, once a daughter, always a daughter.
The problem is not that we have lived like this for five hundred years, but that we will continue to live like this in the future.

Ling is the beginning and leader of Yahoo.
Since the spirit is a fox, it sometimes has to become its original form, a fox.
The wild instincts of the Bonyahos remain.
That day, Yeong transformed into a fox and ran through the snowy field.
It's a trap, so I could easily get out on my own, but because Autumn appeared, I couldn't transform and just let Autumn do whatever she wanted.
Later, Autumn realized that she had been making a fuss for nothing.
But thanks to that, Yeong saved the lives of the three Ga-eul-ne mothers and daughters.
Yahoo has an iron rule that it never forgets a favor once it has been received.
The spirit turned the three dying mothers and daughters into a night watchman to save them.
There was no choice for either the spirit or the three daughters.
It was the same for Autumn, who saved the spirit.
It wasn't a question of whether to save or not, it was just about saving.
Maybe life isn't about choices, it's about things just flowing by.

A full moon rose over the shrine that day.
The moment the lunar eclipse began, a bead fell from the sky and the spirit swallowed it.
Then, a red aura enveloped the spirit's body.
As Hwanung approached and recited a spell toward the spirit, beads began to come out of the spirit's mouth one by one.
The foxes took turns taking the beads and swallowing them.
Then, a red energy swirled around my whole body like a spirit.
As Hwanung recited the spell once more, the foxes writhe in pain.
When I thought I was going to die like this, everyone lost consciousness.
When the foxes opened their eyes again, the lunar eclipse had ended. Their fur had disappeared from their entire bodies, revealing smooth flesh.
The tail disappeared and two hands and two feet were visible.
It wasn't just the spirit that changed.
Before the spirit stood a clan that had become human.

Grandma and Mom were interested in the news of Yahoo, but Ga-eul was barely listening.
Actually, even the millet probably doesn't want to see or be curious about autumn.
The millet hated autumn because it was half-baked.
Autumn was lonely among humans and among Yahoos.
I wonder how nice it would be if autumn were a complete yahoo.
When I say this, the spirit tells me not to say such things, but what can I do if that is the truth?

Shinwoo's heart could be felt in each and every letter he wrote with great care.
Autumn clutched the card tightly and cried.
My grandmother did that.
Even though we've become Yahoo, our hearts are still the same.
So, since you can't get rid of your feelings for people, don't give them your heart from the beginning.
I listened and listened again.
But there are very few Yahoos who follow it.
Yeong saved the three daughters in Ga-eul, and the mother accepted Yeong-bin as her child.
I keep making resolutions, but why can't I? My heart wavers, my heart moves, my heart is moved, and so Autumn cries.
--- pp.104~105

“Autumn, I didn’t believe in things like fate.
Because then I would be so miserable.
People used to call my grandmother and me survivors, not victims, and I hated that.
What's so great about me surviving while my parents are dead?
“What could be so good about it?” Shinwoo had the same lonely expression as when they first met.
Gaeul wanted to embrace Shinwoo's heart, so she held his hand instead. "But I met you because I was alive.
Thank you, Autumn.
“Please save me.” Hearing those words, Ga-eul began to cry.
I didn't want to cry in front of Shinwoo, but the tears wouldn't stop.
Shinwoo brought a tissue and wiped Gaeul's tears away.

Publisher's Review
Is living forever a blessing or a curse?
He received a bead from the first Yaho and lived as a fifteen-year-old for five hundred years.
A secret destiny and dazzling growth unfold!

Author Kim Hye-jeong, who has received enthusiastic support and love from young readers for her hero novel 『Hunter Girl』, which protects children from bad adults, has returned with a fantasy novel 『Fifteen Years in Five Hundred Years』, based on our myths and old tales.
When Hwanung came down and established the new world, unlike the bear and tiger who wanted to become humans, the fox who refused to become human received the first bead at the request of Ungnyeo who asked her to help Dangun and formed the Yaho tribe. This novel imagination is based on our old stories such as 'The Fox Sister', 'The Magpie Who Repaid the Favor', and 'The Tiger Brother', and contains the secret fate of a girl who lived as a fifteen-year-old for five hundred years.

The protagonist of this book, Autumn, receives a bead from the first Yaho spirit five hundred years ago at the age of fifteen and becomes the Jongyaho.
When you become Yahoo, time in your body stops, so you live forever as long as you have the beads.
Is living forever a blessing or a curse? Over the course of five hundred years, Autumn endures constant doubts about life, the sadness of having to leave those she shared her heart with because she couldn't reveal her true identity, and the confusion of her identity as an unwelcome being to both humans and Yaho. She builds a wall around herself to avoid giving her heart to anyone, living a lonely life.

But, whether human or Yahoo, since they are beings with hearts, we cannot deny that their hearts are moved.
When she was fifteen, Autumn saved a white fox caught in a trap, and Yeong, who had transformed into a white fox, willingly gave up her precious bead to save Seohee.
The connection that is formed through the hearts of two people creates an amazing fate that no one could have predicted.
Autumn is the child born between a human and a tiger who became Yaho.
Gaeul, who denied the value of her own existence because she was neither a complete human nor a complete Yaho, gradually realizes her own destiny and role through tears and laughter through the precious relationships she meets in various lives.
Finally, in the midst of the war between the Yaho and Tiger tribes over the first bead, Autumn makes a completely different choice than before and experiences remarkable growth.
Readers will also be able to think again about the meaning of growth, which they will have to face throughout their lives, through Autumn's growth that breaks through her own walls and soars.

“It’s terrible enough to spend a year at fifteen, but five hundred years?”
Kim Hye-jeong's growth story that speaks to the hearts of young people

This book is another story of growth from the author, who has written many works such as “Fantastic Girl,” “Diet School,” “Inside School,” and “Dear Sister” with the belief that writing stories of growth leads to growth.
In particular, this work vividly shows the wall of reality that teenagers face through the symbolic figure of a fifteen-year-old over five hundred years.

For five hundred years, Autumn has never escaped the status of a student, except for the difference between going to school and going to a seodang.
Grandma and Mom, who became Yahoo together, changed their names and started a new life, doing new things, meeting new people, and falling in love, but Autumn still goes to school.
Even though the friends I went to school with have grown up and died, Autumn remains fifteen.

The author said that when he told teenagers that he was writing a story about a girl who is fifteen for five hundred years, he often heard them say, “It’s terrible enough to spend a year at fifteen, but five hundred years? Isn’t that too much for the protagonist?”
There isn't much for teenagers to do in our society.
If you walk around the streets without your school uniform on a weekday, you can't avoid the harsh stares of those around you.
Just as autumn, who is constantly questioned about her worth because she can never become an adult even if she lives for five hundred years, hasn't our society too naturally defined teenagers as imperfect beings, excluding their many potentials?

The author has already shown the lives of out-of-school children trying to find their place in a rough and tough society through the work "Tenten Film Group."
This work goes one step further, breaking down society's prejudices and stereotypes about teenagers and boldly showing the potential of teenagers through the process of a fifteen-year-old girl growing into a complete being who can end a long and recurring war.
The world created by previous generations is by no means perfect.
So, you can dream of a different world and make different choices.
