We are all philosophers
Description
Book Introduction
“Philosophy asks, the Bible answers!”
We are all philosophers in the sense that we ask ourselves philosophical questions through our various experiences in life.
Each of our answers to the same question reveals our innermost beliefs and thoughts, which make a practical difference in how we live our lives.
So, as Christians, do we really have the right answer?
What are all things made of? Do I have free will? Can I know this world? Does God exist? How should I live? What rights do I have? How can I be saved?
In this book, John Frame addresses seven key questions and analyzes both the general philosophical and biblical answers to them.
By comparing the philosophical approach, which tends to push human reason, experience, and subjectivity to one extreme, with the biblical approach, which integrates these three elements into the idea of God's sovereignty, readers will easily come to understand what the truth is.
This book has all the hallmarks of John Frame's books.
First, he appeals frequently and carefully to the Bible.
He also writes in an elegant and concise tone, a byproduct of his mastery of the complex philosophical topics he outlines.

Into the book
After writing A History of Western Philosophy and Theology, I began to think that I could write another philosophy book that would be accessible to the general reader.
Rather than narrating this book chronologically, I have decided to organize it thematically, and to keep it much shorter and simpler.
This book will be more appropriate for students beginning to study philosophy (including those at the college and seminary levels, and even some high school students), and will help them grasp the practical nature of the questions philosophers raise.
In fact, the questions we call 'philosophical questions' are ones we all ask ourselves in one way or another.
This book will help readers from all backgrounds consider these questions clearly and deeply.
--- From the "Preface"
But this is not the meaning of 'freedom' as we understand it.
Free acts need not be without cause.
In reality, actions without a cause would be unusual and bizarre events, things that just happen regardless of our wishes.
Let's say my arm keeps moving up and down regardless of my intention.
It would be a strange event, not a free movement.
In fact, this irregularity is an obstacle to freedom.
If my arms keep moving up and down for no reason, it means I am soon out of control.
This is a pathological symptom and an involuntary seizure, not an example of free choice.
