The Shop That Sells Time 2
Description
Book Introduction
The second story of "The Shop That Sells Time," which won the first Jaum and Moeum Youth Literature Award in 2011 and has remained a leader in the field to this day, has arrived. In her latest work, "The Shop That Sells Time 2: Time for You," author Kim Seon-yeong uses her imagination to find an answer to the ingenious question, "Can we really buy and sell invisible time?" The protagonist, Onjo, opened an online cafe called 'Time Selling Shop' and struggled to solve the requests posted there. This time, the story unfolds in a more three-dimensional way as the store is drastically reorganized and run jointly with friends Lee Hyeon, Nanju, and Hyeji. The first request comes to the reorganized store to prevent the dismissal of the school security guard, and the store members decide to hold a 'protest against dismissal'. But I'm worried about who will come forward with me in a situation where I might be at a disadvantage... Can the members prevent the old man's dismissal and successfully run the newly renovated store? In "The Time Shop 2: Time for You," the members collaborate and move through time. How do we buy and sell time? We ask ourselves endlessly, using each other's time usefully and willingly giving up the remaining time for others to use. The second story of 『The Shop That Sells Time』, which we met after waiting for 8 years. Through this novel, readers will have a beautiful time thinking about how the time given to us is both time for me and time for you, and that sometimes the happiness of others becomes the condition of my life. |

Into the book
“The next meeting will be announced again on Facebook.”
The children who had participated in the protest walked with slumped shoulders, as if they were checking out the high wall and turning away.
“Why are you punishing me for doing the right thing?”
Nanju said, mulling over what the grade head had said.
“If the world were so just, what would be the problem?
“The Mr. Scissorhands thing probably never happened.”
From the time he was little, Onjo was told to listen to his teachers when he went to school.
I remembered my grandmother's voice, which she used to greet me every morning and evening.
The words he repeated without fail, after carrying my bag and checking my clothes.
-- Don't fight with your friends and listen to your teacher.
-- Oh my, did our puppy have a good time at school? Did he listen to the teacher?
I was brainwashed by the words I heard every day without fail, and I thought that obeying and submitting, even when told to do something wrong or when I saw something wrong, was a virtue.
This incident was certainly not a bad thing, but the expression that went against the school's wishes was extremely annoying and became a violation of student duty.

“So, you can see that the scope of buying and selling time is expanding.
Some people buy time, some people sell time.
We just have to tune it out.
Time broker.
You can call them time brokers, time sailors, etc., whatever you want.
“That’s the kind of concept it is.”
“Oh? Awesome.”
Onjo got goosebumps.
He continued speaking, rubbing shoulders and exclaiming in admiration.
“It’s a time-sharing system concept.
It's about making good use of each other's time and making it available for others to use.
If this happens, time will literally become a medium for buying and selling.”
Onjo recalled the days when she had worried about being used for nefarious purposes and heard sarcastic remarks about how she was no different from a paid errand center, wondering if she could really buy and sell her time.

“Do you think I’m alive?”
The old man asked with a smile on his face.
He was staring into space.
"yes"
At the sudden question, Lee Hyeon wanted to ask what he meant.
“Be honest with me.
“Does it look like it’s alive?”
“Yes, of course.”
My heart was pounding uncontrollably.
I was also a bit scared.
"it's okay.
I'm just alive.
“Not living.”
What is the difference between being alive and living?
I had no idea what he was trying to say.
What kind of favor are you trying to ask by beating around the bush like that?
--- p.84
Nanju also received a text message.
Nanju's mother also decided to join.
It was quite different from the first day of the protest.
It feels like I have a strong support group on my back.
The order of the press conference was decided and Onjo was in charge of conducting it.
Since we all said we were the instigators, I thought it was right to step forward as the instigators.
As we entered the school gate, several mothers were talking to their children.
It seemed like he was guarding the front gate, stubbornly refusing Morning Poop's urging to go to the teachers' office.
If the school is chaotic, it can affect children's grades, so you may want to resolve the issue quickly.
Perhaps because the petition against the motion was circulated, the number of students gradually increased.
A large number of people gathered, just as water came in and formed a huge lake in an instant.
The number of parents also gradually increased.
There were quite a few graduates who didn't wear school uniforms.
On both sides of the front row, placards calling for reinstatement were held.
Lee Hyun decided to come forward and issue a statement.
I was surprised to see reporters' cameras lined up in front of the protesters.
So many people come.

“Mom, I have a favor to ask you too. Can I do it?”
“Really? What is it?”
“Next Saturday at 6 a.m. we’re going to have a human chain around the embankment.
Also known as embracing the dam, asking to live together.
Anyone can participate, from very young children to the elderly.
The idea is to get as much participation as possible.”
“It’s okay if it’s Saturday morning, but the scariest enemy is probably sleeping in at dawn.
“Sleep is our biggest enemy.”
“If you have a mind, sleep will be a problem.
Let's leave that up to each person.
“First, call for reception!”
The blood on the gauze on her forehead hasn't dried yet, but Mom is preparing for her next move.
My mother's phone rang constantly, and it seemed like she was talking on the phone and coordinating opinions.
Onjo posted the request to Timeby and Timeback.
Those who owe time to Timeby are given the opportunity to repay it by participating in the Dawn Reservoir, and those who have saved time in Timeback can be persuaded to use it in the Dawn Reservoir.

Lee Hyeon stayed in the greenery of the garden for a long time, tangled with three dogs and two cats.
“Hiya, there are so many different trees, and the trees in the garden, and the flowers, too, planted in such abundance, but not being able to take care of them must have been heartbreaking.”
The old man kept looking around the garden and exclaiming in admiration.
The sound of the sewing machine could be heard occasionally.
The sound of your mother taking your life seriously.
I remembered what he had said about making that sound being alive.
How heavy the word sacrifice is, and that it is not something to be used lightly.
It was a sound that made me realize that it was a word that made both the speaker and the listener feel extremely wronged.
As I opened the front door, the sound of the sewing machine stopped and the woman greeted me.
“Welcome.”
The man took off his hat and bowed in greeting.
“Come in.
Thank you.
Thank you for coming.
“I think this gentleman will be happy that his friend has come.”
The woman said, looking at the man's face.
Even Lee Hyun thought that the two of them would get along really well.

Publisher's Review
The time given to us
Time for me, time for you!
Is it truly impossible to buy or sell time? "The Time Shop 2: Time for You" is a journey to find the answer to this question.
In the novel, you can meet children who constantly ask questions and move to find answers to those questions.
Onjo, Lee Hyeon, Nanju, and Hyeji create their own answers based on collaboration, solidarity, and a sense of community that moves through time.
This novel was conceived after reading an article about how students at Goyang International High School protested the dismissal of a sheriff, ultimately leading to his reinstatement.
The author said he read the article over and over again, excited by the thought of meeting such wonderful friends that he would only meet in novels.
The fact that they went beyond personal issues to resist and challenge the social system was enough to break the stereotype of 'kids these days' who are expected to remain indifferent to issues that do not concern them.
Author Kim Seon-yeong applauds them and adds her own creative imagination to unfold the story.
The time-selling store is transformed into a 'time exchange' where people use each other's time usefully and offer it up for others to use.
Literally, time is the medium through which buying and selling takes place in a store.
People sell their time in stores, and they buy other people's time, but all transactions are made with time alone.
In this way, the store is reborn as ‘ours’ rather than the personal property of Onjo.
People don't spend their time just for themselves, they give it to someone in need.
By building on the concept of 'time sharing' and collaborating, solidarity, and showing courage to stand up for what's right, we prove that time for me can become time for you.
A new variation on the familiar word "we"
A more mature story that reflects on the quality of life
Author Kim Seon-yeong has a particularly keen sense of time and is a writer who thinks about it for a long time.
Perhaps this is the reason why his previous work, "The Shop That Sells Time," has consistently enjoyed popularity, receiving favorable reviews for raising the bar for youth literature.
The author, who usually says that “time is a fate given to all living things and a homework assignment with no right answer,” introduces children in this novel who own and share the time given equally to everyone in a slightly different way.
This novel guides us into a more mature story by repeatedly confirming the truth that while time seems to be given equally to everyone, it is the choices of those who live through it that make that time meaningful.
The captivating power and fast-paced plot, along with the thoughtful vocabulary for young readers, will make this a heartwarming gift for readers who remember the first story of "The Shop That Sells Time" and have been waiting for the second.
A masterpiece of young adult fiction, salvaged from the passage of time! This beautiful story, sometimes lighthearted and sometimes profound, unfolds with a sense of urgency. We hope it will be loved by many readers for a long time to come.
