Into the book
Are you aware that the internet and smartphones are flooded with pornography of unimaginable intensity, targeting young children? This pornography seduces and cries out to children.

“Enjoy it.
Enjoy it all.
“Enjoy it to your heart’s content, following your instincts!”
To the young men, like Daniel, who had been taken captive, he said, “Eat the king’s food and drink the king’s wine! Enjoy yourselves to the fullest! Just change your name.
As if shouting, "Just give up your identity as a child of God!"... Doesn't the culture of our time resemble a tree that is both good for food and pleasing to the eye, and desirable enough to make one wise? Given this reality, there seems to be no room for religious education.
This is the reality of our world culture that confuses our children.
--- p.17,18

Jeremy Taylor said, “A person can never despair if he remembers that the One who helps him is the Almighty,” and Andrew Murray said, “Salvation begins the moment when one despairs completely and finds hope in the Lord alone.”
Tolstoy left behind a famous quote that seems to summarize all of these famous quotes in one word.

“Human despair is God’s opportunity, and man’s end is God’s beginning.” --- p.43

But surprisingly, God was still working for Daniel and his friends who decided and challenged themselves, saying, "I will not live in conformity with this evil age."
I believe that God is still working for those who set their minds on Him and challenge the evil world.
The important thing is not to be pessimistic in the discouraging environment of these dark times, but to live by trusting in God.
I truly long to experience God's work continuously in my life.
--- p.76

What I realized then was that guarding one's lips is a spiritual ability, loving and embracing one's neighbor is a skill, and being able to embrace someone with a different temperament than oneself is also a skill.
Without spiritual ability, you cannot love even if you want to.
Until then, I had only been nagging and rebuking the saints for not being able to do so, but I realized that I had not been able to help them gain the ability to overcome this weakness, and I offered this prayer to God.

“God, from today on, Bundang Our Church will become a church that provides spiritual power.
“We will become a church that prays.”
That was how the first special dawn revival meeting began, which lasted for a full 60 days.
--- p.99,100

What example of prayer did Jesus want to show us?
“Whatever you do, pray before you do it.
Pray while doing important things.
Do nothing without prayer.
Never make a decision without prayer.
“Do not act without prayer!”
This is it.
At the same time, I believe that the most fundamental point contained in all of these prayers is contained in the prayer offered in Gethsemane before being crucified.
--- p.106

Believing that 'if you pray, things will change' is a very important belief.
Nevertheless, our understanding of prayer must go one step further.
'Praying is useless.
It is certainly a good thing to move from the first stage of disbelief, which says, “Things won’t change even if you pray,” to the second stage, which says, “Things will change if you pray.” However, we must not stop there, but go further and move on to the point where “Prayer is following God’s thoughts.”
This is the faith that the three friends confess in the text, “even if He does not do so.”
--- p.167,168

“So what is the opposite of humility?”
“It’s arrogance.”
Then the disciples asked him this question again:

“Teacher, what is pride?”
Then Augustine answered like this.

“I think that being extremely humble is pride.”
Augustine's sharp remark, intended to emphasize that no one is exempt from pride, resonated deeply with me.
--- p.208,209

What does it mean that King Darius appointed Daniel, a former captive, as prime minister? That he was a trustworthy man.
Although he is a former prisoner of war, he is a trustworthy person.
Although Daniel lived in an evil world, he was not tainted by the world, and was evaluated as a 'trustworthy person' not only by God but also by those around him.
--- p.281

The reporter who interviewed Director Hillman wrote this about him:

“The interview with Bishop Hillman, a devout Christian, felt like meeting a famous pastor from the United States.
“He was a man whose life and faith, his words and actions, were consistent.”
Isn't this how we express the beauty of a person who lives with clear standards and principles? --- p.316

In fact, we may be busy and read the Bible less during normal times, but when we face problems or crises, that is when we must be influenced by the Word.
This is exactly what we need to learn from Daniel.
Daniel held on to the Word during a time of turbulent transition, and through it he gained important insights regarding his people.
…I hope that, like Daniel, we can all cling to the Word, gain insight from it, and find the power to overcome this age through the comfort it provides, becoming Christians who, as believers, can live abundantly in this age.

--- p.338,340

Publisher's Review
If you watch popular dramas these days, you'll come across familiar topics like premarital pregnancy, divorce, homosexuality, and suicide.
This is the era we live in now.
What does it mean to live as a believer in these times?

In his book, “Living as a Believer in the World,” Pastor Chan-soo Lee of Bundang Woori Church explains that the environment of Babylon, where Daniel lived, is remarkably similar to our times. He examines in detail how Daniel was able to maintain his faith in Babylon, a country that worshipped foreign gods, and how God worked through Daniel.
I believe that Daniel's example, which not only maintained his faith in God but also served as an influential figure in the world, will convey a meaningful message to today's Christians living in extreme turmoil.
This book will convey God's heart to those who persevere in their faith in the world and to those who wonder what it means to live a victorious life in God's way.
