Today's youth literature, created by award-winning authors

The 'Consonant and Vowel Youth Literature' series, which first began in 2010, has now reached its 70th volume.
To commemorate this, we published a collection of short stories titled “Temperature of Teenagers,” which includes new short stories by winners of the Youth Literature Award.
This collection of short stories is a novel for young adults, the protagonists of youth literature, and contains the desire to move beyond the confines of youth literature to become literature that can be enjoyed by all generations and provides enjoyment in and of itself.

A point where you are neither a child nor an adult.
Young people who have to blindly run towards the entrance exam in that blind spot.
In order to provide them with comfort and courage, Jaum and Moeum launched the Jaum and Moeum Youth Literature Series in 2010.
Beginning with Lee Sang-kwon's "Coming of Age," the company has published 70 books to date, focusing on nurturing the inherent sensibility of young people.

In particular, since 2011, we have established the 'Consonant and Vowel Youth Literature Award' to discover talented writers and introduce works with outstanding literary value.
Starting with Kim Seon-yeong's "The Shop That Sells Time," which is considered a work that took youth literature to the next level, Yoo Young-min's "Oz's Clothing Collection Box," which won the 3rd prize, Ginger's "A Little Crooked" which won the "Notable Eyes Award" in the same year, Gong Ji-hee's "Tok Tok Tok," which won the 4th prize, and Shin Seol's "Ttakari, Transfer Student, Jjujjuba, Rodin, Shingari," which won the 5th prize.
Author Lee Sang-kwon, who has been in charge of judging literary awards, including five award-winning authors, has been a great force in leading the Jaum and Moeum Youth Literature Series.
In addition, dozens of writers have struggled to realistically portray the daily lives of teenagers, adding their own valuable stories to create the current 70 volumes.

Throughout the 70 volumes of Jaum and Moeum Youth Literature published, we have always strived to vividly capture the growing pains of teenagers.
It depicts realistic problems faced by teenagers who are just beginning to open their eyes to the world and themselves, such as school and academics, family and established systems, and relationships with friends and the opposite sex, with a unique sensibility and honesty.
The Consonant and Vowel Youth Literature series will continue to vividly capture the diverse thoughts and imaginations of teenagers through future works.

Into the book
As soon as I got to the bathroom, I turned off my phone.
There was still the last express bus to Seoul.
I have to go to the terminal to go back to Seoul now, but I don't know why I'm so scared.
Looking at myself and my parents, who I would meet again in Seoul, I didn't have the confidence to live like I used to, acting like nothing was wrong.
It's not like anything special happened to me.
Yet, it seemed like I had changed a lot.
I don't know myself like this.
---From "One Day Suddenly"

The phenomenon of the font looking different or prominent every time I looked at the book occurred irregularly.
I thought back to when it mostly happened.
Sometimes the letters on the blackboard would glow and become larger.
Key words that could be considered keywords were moving around in a jumble, seemingly intent on planting something in my mind.
Light? Weather? Season? Food?
What on earth is going on?
There will definitely be something in common.
I thought of a museum exhibition hall.
There was light, and yes, there was wind, there was wind.
The wind was blowing even when I looked at the mountain in front of the museum.
Even when I was reading a book in the library, there was a breeze blowing through the window, and even when I was taking a mock exam, there was a cool breeze blowing through the window the whole time.
So what does the wind have to do with increasing font size or changing fonts?
---From "The Wind's Reading Method"

I was startled as I took my pencil case out of my bag.
There's a kimchi stew stain on your pants! Oh my goodness, if you look closely, there's even dried, twisted rice stuck to it.
My heart aches.
This kind of thing is a month's worth of teasing at school.
Scrape off the rice paste with your fingernails.
However, the rice cake that is firmly stuck to the pants is not easily removed.
Even if I scratch with all my might, it doesn't budge.
Why won't it fall down! I scream without realizing it.
I was startled and dumbfounded by my own voice ringing loudly throughout the room.
I calm down and start kneading the rice again.
Rice drips down, leaving white marks on the pants.
---From "Promise"

“Whitey chick.”
The boys giggled and swore at him.
The lake blinked and sweat poured down its face.
A white person? I couldn't help but be astonished.
It wasn't just because of the lake's nickname of being colorful.
He was shabby when I met him in the classroom.
It was markedly different from the lake that had illuminated me at night.
The aura that had been so dazzling had completely disappeared.
The lake was utterly desolate, as if all the energy in its body had dried up and died.
His face turned pale and he died from the burden of just holding himself up so that he wouldn't collapse.
That guy isn't white!
---From "Black Girl"

At that moment, a motorcycle passed slowly across the square, watching me.
And then he turned around and came closer.
A man on a motorcycle came up to me and took off his helmet.
As a result, the sun that was shining on my body was blocked.
I moved and continued to bask in the sun.
The young man's face, wearing a striped shirt and baggy jeans, was obscured by his bushy sideburns, making it difficult to immediately tell his race.

He looked into my blank eyes and asked, “Are you Korean?”

I jumped up and grabbed the man's hand.
"yes!"
Oh my! God must have sent me an angel.
And he is a native Korean.

The man pulled his hand away in embarrassment, and I quickly grabbed his hand again and spat out whatever I wanted.
"brother!"
The young man on the motorcycle stepped back with a bewildered look on his face and said.

“I… don’t have a younger sibling.”
---From "Seychelles Like a Movie"

In that debate where everyone freely expressed their positions, only Rahee, Jinsoo, and Jimin argued for the abolition of Mother.
Since Jinsu and Ji-myeong were in the same class, they were the only three students in the minority among the 67 students in the two classes.

“I agree with you.
I want to get rid of Mother.
So we need your talents.”
The science teacher revealed his true colors.
He had reported the terrorist plan.
He encouraged the students' distorted thinking, explained the hardships they would have to endure, and revealed the roles each would have to play.
He also left a note saying that his thoughts may be wrong, so he left it to his own judgment.
Then I left the club room.
Even at that time, the three students, who were awkward with each other, could not share their surprise with each other.
We couldn't even ask what the other person was thinking, but if we had known, we would have welcomed each other.
Because we had the same mind.

Publisher's Review
It feels like it hurts, but it doesn't feel like it hurts...
Stories of teenagers suffering from a feverish puberty

Teenagers, who are learning about the world in an incomplete state, tend to feel the temperature of the world differently.
Some are hot, some are cold, or at a temperature that does not exist in this world.
So, teenagers themselves develop their own temperature, sometimes hot and sometimes cold.
In this collection of short stories, the six authors touch the foreheads of today's youth and read their temperature.
All teenagers' temperatures should be respected and it is okay to have any temperature.

Lee Sang-kwon's "One Day, By Chance," written in his uniquely delicate style, stands out for the contrast between the girls' poignant friendship and the stifling reality.
Kim Seon-yeong's "The Wind's Reading Method" is a work that expands the illusion of certain letters standing out at certain moments while reading a book into an interesting imagination.
Yoo Young-min's "Promise" is the story of a girl who learns about fundamental loneliness while waiting helplessly for her mother, who ran away from home due to difficult family circumstances.

Ginger's "Girl in Black" conveys the pure message that all colors in the world are beautiful in their own right through the poignant feelings of a girl with unusually dark skin and a boy who has unusually white skin due to an illness.
Gong Ji-hee's "Seychelles Like a Movie" depicts the adventures of a boy who runs away to the Seychelles Islands before the college entrance exam, as if it were a movie.
The newly established "Mother Destruction Incident" is an interesting fantasy novel that reconstructs the incident in which an alien destroys a biological computer called "Mother" left behind in South Korea.

The girl and boy appearing in the work go through an unstable time as they pass through childhood and gradually learn about the world.
But they are not as worrisome as adults think.
This collection of short stories maintains the view that what teenagers need now is someone to keep their own temperature.
This shows that the essence of youth literature is not in dealing with youth, but in communicating with youth.
These six novels, based on solid literary quality and resonating with young readers, repeatedly demonstrate the power of good literature.
