Publisher's Review

In recent years, with the emphasis on quality assessment of healthcare institutions, the importance of systematic basic life support training for healthcare professionals is continuously increasing.
Since signing an education contract with the American Heart Association in 2005, the Korean Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Association has been providing basic life support training to healthcare professionals from the American Heart Association.
The American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) training course is structured in a video format, allowing for systematic practice of BLS. Furthermore, with the systematic management of instructors and trainees, it is now recognized as one of the essential training programs for healthcare professionals in Korea.
In fact, currently, more than 3,000 basic life support training sessions are conducted annually at approximately 220 basic life support training centers (BLS training sites) under the Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and approximately 38,000 healthcare professionals complete the training each year.
In addition, in 2018, the Korean BLS course, a basic life support training course tailored to the domestic healthcare environment, was developed by the Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (KARS), and since then, approximately 450 training sessions have been conducted annually for approximately 7,500 healthcare professionals.
In fact, the basic life support training course of the Korean Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Association considers both cardiac arrest situations occurring outside of the hospital and cardiac arrest situations occurring within medical institutions, and because the program is structured to match the realities of domestic medical institutions, it can be immediately utilized in the healthcare field.
I have no doubt that this curriculum will develop into a representative program for basic life support training for healthcare professionals in Korea, and I anticipate that this textbook will play a significant role in ensuring even more thorough training.
This textbook has been revised based on the 2020 revised Korean CPR Guidelines, and includes academic content that should be supplemented in the Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation basic life support training course, which is conducted according to video, as well as content that will be helpful for technical and written evaluations.
We would like to express our gratitude to all the authors who worked hard to revise the Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation's basic life support curriculum textbook. We hope that this textbook will be of practical help in the treatment of cardiac arrest patients in the future.
