Description
Book Introduction
The 2025 Newbery Honor Winner, "The New York Sock Detectives," is now available.
-“Oh, what is this? Wow, this is a truly amazing book.” That’s how it was discovered, and word of mouth spread far and wide.

The very book that finally won the award!

Two children are walking across the middle of downtown New York.
A fluffy puppy follows, and for some reason, the child walking ahead is holding a pair of white socks in his hand.
Although the unique cover immediately catches the eye, the book initially received little attention.
This is because the author is publishing a children's book for the first time, it does not deal with any special issues, and the story is relatively short.
However, as it began to be rediscovered by discerning readers and critics, word of mouth spread widely that it was “a wonderful book we rarely come across,” and it ended up on lists of “Best of the Year” and eventually won the Newbery Medal, the highest children’s book award in the United States.

The protagonist of this hit film is Magnolia Wu, a ten-year-old girl who appears ordinary at first glance but is very charming.
Forced to spend the entire summer at her parents' laundromat, Magnolia is a bored and lonely, yet highly creative character.
Magnolia's inner monologue will have readers bursting out in laughter, and the humorous, witty story and fast-paced pace will have you reaching the last page in no time.

Magnolia's life, whose name means 'magnolia,' blossoms when she meets Iris Lamb, a girl who has moved to New York.
The two girls quickly become best friends and decide to return all the socks thrown away by their parents' laundromat to their original owners. They become the "Sock Detectives" and begin to roam New York City.

Publisher's Review
The Sock Detectives scour New York City in search of the owner of a lost sock.
-Lost items sometimes provide important clues to complete life's puzzles!

Beneath the skyscrapers of New York City, Chinese-American girl Magnolia Wu sits inside her parents' laundromat.
Magnolia posts all the lost socks on the laundry bulletin board, hoping that customers will come back.
But no one seems to notice.
In fact, few people even notice that there are magnolias there.

What even Magnolia doesn't know is that this summer will be the most exciting summer she's ever had.
With the arrival of Iris, a Vietnamese-American girl from California, the two, with similar identities, become best friends and begin to blossom into their own creative selves.
They become a team of detectives who travel across New York City to solve the mystery of each lost sock, traveling through subways, flower shops, pizza parlors, and more, meeting people and discovering things they never imagined.
And every time I meet new people, whether familiar or completely unfamiliar, I realize that if I have the courage to step into the unknown, everything in the world will eventually fall into place.

Perhaps life is a never-ending process of exploration fueled by curiosity and imagination.
Also, what breaks the stifling reality is humor and wit, and what melts the world's harshness is sincerity and a warm heart.
Author Chanel Miller said in an interview with The New York Times that the book is “about going out into the world with courage, even when life is unpredictable.”

The author casts the fantastical pair of Magnolia and Iris in a fun, humorous, and heartwarming story about friendship and community.
Another attractive bonus is the unique cartoon-style illustrations freely drawn by the author himself.
