A tailored world history, from the discovery of North America to the birth of the Soviet Union, organized by two countries.
*Naver Audio Clip #1!* *30 million cumulative listens!* *60 weeks on the All-Time Bestseller List!*
‘30 million cumulative listens’, ‘No. 1 on Naver Audio Clip’, these are the amazing records set by the history podcast [Sun Kim’s Complete Conquest of World History].
Among the various episodes, the history of the two countries that are still competing for world hegemony, the United States and Russia, is organized and officially published as 『Sun Kim's Complete Conquest of World History』.
Russia, which invaded Ukraine and plunged the world into the fear of war, and the United States, which is throwing heavy weight to prevent the escalation into World War III, their actions have a profound impact on the international community and our country as well.
As we watch this series of events, we are left to wonder how Russia became a country capable of plunging the world into crisis so quickly, and how the United States became a power powerful enough to impose economic sanctions on Russia.
By reading this book, we will not only find the answer, but also unravel the tangled threads of history.
Especially for those who are intimidated by the sheer volume of American and Russian history, this book explains the most important chapters in world history, from the discovery of the North American continent to the birth of the Soviet Union, from a perspective even non-scientific readers can grasp the context of world history.
Sun Kim's history lectures, which break the stereotype that history is boring and rigid, provide readers with the pleasure of reading by covering the historical background of events, cultural aspects, and even the behind-the-scenes stories of historical figures we know.
Additionally, a chronological table is provided for each chapter to help readers grasp the flow of events over time at a glance, and at the end, stories about movies, people, and music related to the text are included to provide details for understanding history.
The text includes 50 full-color maps and illustrations, allowing readers to vividly see what happened where, keeping them engaged until the very end.
Now it's time to embark on a world history journey led by historical storyteller Sun Kim.

Into the book
Let me give you a quiz.
Who were the first "Europeans" to set foot on the American continent and establish the first colonies? Many would assume it was the 102 English Puritans who departed from England on the Mayflower in 1620 and arrived in what is now Massachusetts.
Many Americans still believe this today.
Think of your ancestors as people who created the New World for freedom, people who risked their lives crossing the rugged Atlantic to escape religious persecution in their home country of England.
How wonderful, isn't it? But unfortunately, it's not true.
---From "The Inconvenient Truth America Wants to Hide"
The British who occupied New Amsterdam immediately changed the name of the area.
On paper, the land was registered in the name of the Duke of York (James II), the younger brother of King Charles II, so the name was changed from 'New Amsterdam' to 'New York'.
This is the origin of the current New York.
The New York Yankees are a famous American baseball team, right? The term "Yankee" itself was a nickname for the Dutch residents of the New York area.
The most common name at the time was Jan Kaas, and the most common theory is that it became 'Yankee'.
---From "The Birth of New York"
Despite opposition from the colonists, the British government enforced tax collection.
To put it simply, they imposed taxes on most of the everyday necessities that were prevalent in their lives.
The most notorious tax was the Stamp Duty Act.
It taxed everything made of paper, from stamps to everything else.
Even the wills written before the parents died were subject to tax because they were made of paper.
The colonists were outraged by this absurd demand to pay the stamp duty.
"What? You're saying they're going to tax my father's will too?" he protested.
Eventually, an incident occurs where the colonists attack British tax office employees.
---From "The Prelude to American Independence"
In 1803, the United States sent a negotiating delegation to Paris, France.
The person who ruled France at that time was Napoleon I.
that's right.
That man who said that the word impossible does not exist in his dictionary.
The American negotiators who arrived in Paris cautiously suggested to Napoleon, “Excuse me, could you sell us New Orleans?”
The American negotiators could not believe their ears at the words that came out of Napoleon's mouth.
“Hey, American negotiators.
Instead of just buying New Orleans, why not buy all of Louisiana? Just buy New Orleans and Louisiana for one, plus one.
He said, "I'll give it to you cheaply."
---From "The Louisiana Purchase of the United States"
The United States' purchase of Alaska was truly a stroke of genius.
When we purchased Alaska from Russia, we didn't know it, but later, when we dug into the ground, we found a huge amount of coal, oil, and other minerals.
Especially in the case of coal, 10 percent of the world's coal reserves are currently buried in Alaska.
And above all, the Russian government at the time would not have known.
About 80 years later, the Cold War began between the United States and the Soviet Union, and Alaska would become the best strategic base for the United States to deploy nuclear weapons and blow up the Soviet Union if necessary.
---From "The New Owner of Troublesome Alaska"
In 1806, Napoleon declared the 'Continental System' across Europe with the intention of starving Britain to death.
Britain is an island nation that survives on trade with Europe and the Atlantic Ocean, but they have blocked that sea.
Even giving a chilling warning that 'if you are caught secretly dealing with the British, I won't let you off easy.'
Most European countries followed the continental lockdown.
However, one of the poorest agricultural countries in the easternmost part of Europe at the time ended up defying the continental blockade.
Yes, you're probably getting the idea by now. It was Russia.
For Russia, the only way to keep the country going was to sell its agricultural products to Britain.
Russia, whose livelihood was more pressing than the continental blockade, ended up selling agricultural products to Britain, and ended up getting caught by Napoleon.
---From "The peripheral countries that grew rapidly thanks to Napoleon"
On March 1, 1881, upon hearing that the Emperor was visiting the military academy, the members of the organization devised the following plan.
Step 1: Plant a bomb on the path the emperor's carriage passes.
Step 2: If the bomb attack fails, the members of the organization rush to the carriage with the bomb in their hands.
Finally, the fateful day, March 1st.
Emperor Alexander II visits a military school.
---From "Alexander II is Assassinated"
Nicholas II and his wife had boundless faith in Rasputin.
I started believing and listening to everything he said.
In particular, Empress Alexandra worshipped Rasputin almost like a god.
Meanwhile, as Emperor Nicholas II runs to the battlefield as Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Army and empties the palace, the palace becomes the Empress's world.
That meant the palace was now Rasputin's.
That is, from that moment on, Russia begins to be ruled by Rasputin.
The appointment of ministers, the approval of policies, everything was decided in Rasputin's hands.
The country called Russia was being slurped down by a shaman named Rasputin like noodles.
---From "Participation in World War I and the Magical Monk Rasputin"
At dawn on February 28, the military base defending the capital city of St. Petersburg, equivalent to the Capital Defense Command in our country, was occupied by protesters.
Emperor Nicholas II had nowhere else to run.
So, finally, on March 2nd, Nicholas II, Emperor of the Romanov Dynasty of Russia, announced that he would abdicate.
It was the moment when Imperial Russia, that is, Russia ruled by the emperor, disappeared into history.
History records this event as the 'February Revolution in Russia'.
