Joseon Dynasty Annals 6
Description
Book Introduction
An Alternative to History Textbooks: The Joseon Dynasty Real Talk Series
Volume 6 of Joseon Dynasty Annals has been published!
Joseon Dynasty Annals is a groundbreaking historical cartoon in which characters appearing in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty have conversations through a virtual chat window called 'Toktalk'.
Following the publication of Volume 1, “The Birth of the Joseon Family,” Volume 2, “The Joseon Family’s Action,” Volume 3, “Joseon People’s Real Talk,” Volume 4, “The Scattered Joseon Family,” and Volume 5, “The Two Queens,” Volume 6, “Joseon’s Second Glory,” has been released.
Volume 6 tells the story of King Yeongjo and King Jeongjo, who prevented the culmination of factional strife, promoted political unity, developed industry, and brought about a new revival in the late Joseon Dynasty.
The political strife that had persisted for several kings before finally subsided to some extent with the implementation of King Yeongjo's policy of balancing the factions and selecting people, and the energy previously consumed in political fighting was returned to formulating and implementing policies.
Jeongjo, who became king after Yeongjo, also continued Yeongjo's policy of peace with strong leadership, and tried to prevent factions from growing by fostering new talents by appointing illegitimate children to government posts.
He achieved many things, such as establishing Gyujanggak and building Hwaseong Fortress to promote balanced regional development, but unfortunately, he passed away at a young age.
During this period, outstanding Silhak scholars such as Jeong Yak-yong and Park Ji-won were active, Western civilization, including Catholicism, began to flow in, and commerce developed, prospering like the last spark of Joseon's national power before its decline.
It is a period that can be said to be the second period of prosperity for Joseon after the reign of King Sejong, and is also loved by many Joseon history enthusiasts.
This time, let's enjoy the Yeongjeongjo era depicted in 『Siltalk』.
As the author, Mujeok Pink, also calls himself a ‘Jeongjo fan’, the story unfolds in a richer way than ever before.
The webtoon "Joseon Dynasty Real Talk" is so high-quality that you can learn about history just by reading the best comments, as not only history book readers but also Korean history majors and history nerds leave comments.
Published chronologically, the Joseon Dynasty Siltok is a historical comic that stands out in terms of both fun and learning, as it contains not only explanations of parts that the comic book Siltok did not cover in the Siltok Magnifying Glass, but also historical interpretations.
From adult readers who are interested in history and middle and high school students studying Korean history to elementary school readers who became interested in history thanks to Joseon Dynasty Siltalk, once you get immersed in 'The Conversations of Those in the Joseon Dynasty,' it's hard to break away from the fun.
As the number of volumes in the series increases, the number of readers waiting for the complete publication of Joseon Dynasty Siltok is also increasing, and in fact, Joseon Dynasty Siltok is being used as a history class material in over 1,000 middle and high schools.

Publisher's Review
Light and shadow together
Yeongjo, Crown Prince Sado, and Jeongjo family
The reason the story of Yeongjo and Jeongjo is so popular among many people is not only because it was the last period of Joseon's revival, but also because of the tragic father-son relationship between Yeongjo, Crown Prince Sado, and Jeongjo.
After losing his first son, Crown Prince Hyojang, King Yeongjo was unable to have a successor, and only when he was over forty did he have Crown Prince Sado.
Prince Sado was intelligent from a young age and had many expectations placed on him. He was appointed crown prince at the age of three and received education to succeed to the throne.
Yeongjo was a perfectionist and a hot-blooded man who would not be satisfied unless he personally accomplished something.
On the other hand, Prince Sado was said to be intelligent but introverted and shy, and was reluctant to speak loudly in front of his father and subjects.
Was it because their personalities didn't match, or was it because Yeongjo's expectations were too high?
At first, King Yeongjo loved Crown Prince Sado very much, but he gradually began to hate him, and Crown Prince Sado became mentally ill due to his father's hatred and oppression, and he began to act more and more eccentrically.
The long-standing and distorted relationship between the father and son eventually became irreparable, and King Yeongjo imprisoned Crown Prince Sado and killed him.
The reason why Yeongjo killed Crown Prince Sado is not clearly recorded, so it is still the subject of research by many historians.
Various portraits of the apostles also appear.
The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty depicts the story of King Yeongjo and Crown Prince Sado based on the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty.
Jeongjo, the son of Crown Prince Sado and grandson of King Yeongjo, had seen all of this since childhood, and it is said that when King Yeongjo locked Crown Prince Sado in a rice chest, he cried and begged, “Please save my father.”
It is impossible that the brutal incident of my grandfather killing my father did not leave a scar on my young mind.
Overcoming these wounds, what kind of growth process did Jeongjo go through to become the kind of king he became? And what was his attitude as a son toward the death of Crown Prince Sado after becoming king? The story of the Yeongjeongjo family, with its light and shadow, can be found in Volume 6 of Joseon Dynasty Siltalk.
