members of the art therapy class I run for children and the elderly as part of my volunteer work in the area where I live also participated in the \"It's Okay to Be a Little Slow\" exhibition and book publication.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eA student who serves as a peer helper for a student with a disability who uses a wheelchair due to a brain injury once said, “In the process of helping my special education classmates, I started to think of them as ‘friends who are a little different from us’ rather than ‘friends with disabilities,’ and I am experiencing building new relationships.”\u003cbr\u003e As a special education teacher, I would like to tell my students this:\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e “It’s okay if it’s a little slow.\u003cbr\u003e I think going at your own pace is also one way.\u003cbr\u003e I hope that they learn to get along with their peers and live together.”\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e I hope that this will be another meaningful opportunity for students with and without disabilities to learn how to live together, as they prepare for an exhibition and book publication together, each carrying out their respective roles while simultaneously collaborating. \u003cbr\u003eRegardless of whether they have disabilities or not, I am proud to say that the process of being together was a valuable time for the children.\u003cbr\u003e This is what makes this work so special and precious to me as a supervising teacher.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Rather than evaluating the artistic quality of the poems and paintings, I hope that this will be a time for children and the elderly to look at the results of their stories from their perspective, empathize with them, and understand each other.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Royalties from this book
