Into the book
This book is about the journey and process of becoming a real family with Manu, a golden retriever whom we met by chance when we knew nothing about dogs.
It is also a record of the love we received from Manu and our daily lives with Manu.
I also wanted to talk about the love of that child that will be forgotten and become dull in the future.
I wanted to share the precious love that a non-human being had given me as a son.
Welcoming children into the family was about creating love.
I would like to tell you the story of our family, who created love like that.
--- p.8
The most memorable greeting there was “You are so lucky!” which was the first thing one person said to us when he saw Manu.
It meant, 'You're so lucky to have met a puppy like this.'
Yes, we are so lucky to have met Manu.
--- pp.78-79
Just as family members can sometimes gauge each other's mood and energy just by the atmosphere in the house, after becoming Manu's family, we also began to observe and interpret his every move.
Manu also seemed to be increasingly aware of our moods, emotions, and the intentions behind our words.
Usually, situations arise where a rapport arises or a rapport explodes.
Above all, communication is affection, heart, and love for one another.
--- p.156
After Manu came, doing things together became a routine for us.
I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness in my heart because the seven years of walking, playing together, and exploring nice places, regardless of the weather, were so happy.
I guess we won't be able to share this normal, ordinary daily life together any time soon.
The thought that all of this could turn into longing brought tears to my eyes.
Then my wife looked at my face again.
Then he climbed onto my chest with his front legs, telling me not to do that.
It was Manu's language that felt heavy even without saying a word.
I quickly wiped away my cloudy face and answered Manu with a smile.
--- p.264
They were a very precious family to us.
Someone said, 'The most human thing you can do is love your dog.'
Calling Manu my son, my baby, was not an exaggeration when you look at our relationship.
Although they are different from humans, they have been given love and empathy that humans cannot give through the process of caring for and looking after them since they were babies.
I learned manners and order not only with my family but also with other families.
Because of Manu, I became more human.
My infinitely grateful wife.
I still want to see that kind of wife every moment.

Publisher's Review
To the child who became the strongest family in the world
The splendid golden journey of actress Moon Jung-hee and Manu
Actress Moon Jung-hee, who has been loved for her wide range of acting in various works for a long time, has published a photo essay by Muje Publishing, which captures her time with Manu, a golden retriever who has become her family.
Actress Moon Jeong-hee had never thought about living with a dog, but one day, she met Manu, a dog that seemed like a surprise, and she was completely captivated by him.
No matter how many puppies he has, he can't bear to let go of his one and only relationship with his wife, so he unexpectedly welcomes her as a new member of his family.
And so begins the journey of a novice mother and a reckless puppy who knows nothing yet, and each day is filled with new things they learn, from potty training to etiquette lessons and swimming lessons, and adjusting to each other.
This book vividly depicts the growth of a life, from a fluffy baby puppy to a full-fledged adult, through the energetic puberty of adolescence.
This process is also a journey towards becoming a true family.
They are no different from any other family: they are strictly educated as children, play happily like children, travel together to places far and near to make memories, and enjoy the four seasons.
The way actress Moon Jung-hee and her husband love, trust, care for, and adapt to each other as a family transcends species differences and shows what true communication is.
The photos, which record the couple's life from infancy to the moment of their final farewell, not only vividly convey the emotions of those moments, but also allow us to gauge the depth of the affection they have built.
The deeper the love, the more sudden and painful the separation becomes.
Manu, who had been by his side for 7 years, is suddenly diagnosed with cancer and begins to fight the disease.
He continues to treat his wife with careful consideration, but the separation eventually comes.
He feels the boiling pain with his whole body and accepts death, but he makes a promise to live life more diligently, but putting it into practice is not easy.
However, actress Moon Jeong-hee decides to open a photo exhibition and write a piece to share Manu's story with more people.
It is to prevent the pain from fading away in the distant future and the memories from disappearing along with it, but more than anything, it is to share similar joys and pains with the pet family members.
And so this incredibly loving, affectionate, and ultimately heartbreaking book was born.
“You are so lucky!”
We were so lucky to meet each other.
Living with pets isn't all fun and games.
You need to feed them a balanced diet and take them for walks and exercise, rain or shine.
We also need to take better care of the health of children who cannot speak.
Even when traveling, there are many troublesome things.
But because we are family, that child also lives to accommodate me, so I willingly accept the responsibility that comes with love.
Actor Moon Jung-hee seems to be telling us through her relationship with her wife that it is important to take responsibility in order to enjoy happiness.
But if you think about it, isn't it obvious?
Because family isn't a relationship where you just pick and choose the good things.
Because we live together, enduring hardships and hassles.
As the number of pet families increases and the pet culture develops, this book makes us reflect on many things.
It contains many things that pet owners should think about, from detailed parenting tips to the meaning of a pet family, the attitude one should have when living with children, the responsibility that comes with it, and the process of saying goodbye.
Above all, this book is filled with images of a lovely Manu, a strong Manu, and a wonderful Manu. Anyone who has ever had a deep connection with someone and loved them will be able to turn the pages with empathy.
