『Joseon Dynasty Annals』 is a groundbreaking historical cartoon in which characters appearing in 『Joseon Dynasty Annals』 have conversations through a virtual chat window called 'Toktalk'.
Following Volume 1, 『The Birth of the Joseon Family』, Volume 2, 『The Joseon Family's Action』, Volume 3, 『Joseon People's Real Talk』, Volume 4, 『The Scattered Joseon Family』, Volume 5, 『The Two Queens』, and Volume 6, 『Joseon's Second Glory』, the final volume in the series, Volume 7, 『Hello, Joseon Family』, has been published.


Volume 7 depicts the period of decline of Joseon after the reign of King Yeongjeong, the last period of prosperity for Joseon, as the dynasty weakened and the country became embroiled in a turbulent period of world history.
Sunjo, the son of the workaholic Jeongjo, was listless unlike his father, and Sunjo's capable son, Crown Prince Hyomyeong, unfortunately passed away early.
After Heonjong, the Joseon Dynasty eventually lost its direct line of succession, and King Gojong, the son of Heungseon Daewongun, the fifth generation descendant of King Yeongjo, was placed on the throne, following King Cheoljong, a descendant of the exiled royal family.
As the dynasty weakened, so did national power, and as Western powers began to actively advance into Asia, Joseon was swept up in the waves of history and experienced countless trials and errors and wanderings.

Joseon, with its 500-year history, eventually came to an end as it became a Japanese colony.
So, the late Joseon Dynasty is remembered by many people as a history of sadness and helplessness.
However, the late Joseon Dynasty cannot be viewed as a period of powerlessness.
Even though the outcome was tragic, countless people worked hard to save the sinking Joseon.

Even Heungseon Daewongun, who was later evaluated negatively by later generations for unconditionally rejecting foreign powers by erecting a monument to reject foreign powers, was not so anti-foreign from the beginning.
He sought to interact with the Western powers, giving what he could and gaining what he could.
However, the Western powers pushing into Asia were no longer countries with which Joseon could engage in fair trade, and eventually, Joseon was forced to close its doors after being invaded by force.


Empress Myeongseong and Emperor Gojong, who brought in Russian forces to check Japan, are now criticized for turning Joseon into a battlefield by trying to check foreign powers with foreign powers, but it may have been the best choice for the Joseon Dynasty, which did not have the ability to check Japan on its own.

『Joseon Dynasty Annals』 does not portray the history of the late Joseon Dynasty in an overly tragic or self-deprecating manner.
Even in the midst of hardship, the film ends with a scene where they try to overcome the crisis and eventually declare the founding of the 'Korean Empire', proclaiming their position as an independent nation to the world.
