Find Yi Sun-sin
Description
Book Introduction
Wind Picture Book Volume 156. This is the fourth story in the Find series, following 『Find King Sejong』, 『Find Jeong Yak-yong』, and 『Find Yu Gwan-sun』. It's the launching ceremony day for a newly built ship. The soldiers are talking about ominous rumors that the Japanese will invade rather than the Jinsoo ceremony. Then, a military officer approaches and orders the soldiers to stop arguing and go find General Yi Sun-sin. The confused soldiers quickly wandered around looking for the general. Then he went into the newly built ship, the turtle ship. Soldiers were surprised to see a large cannon on the second floor. Going down the stairs, I saw a large room with various compartments, such as a weapons warehouse and a food warehouse. The soldiers climb back up and examine the structure that allows them to shoot arrows between the rows of oars, and are amazed at the cannons that fill the third floor. Witnessing the turtle ship's immense majesty, did the soldiers shake off their fear of the Japanese? And could they find Admiral Yi Sun-sin aboard the ship? |

Publisher's Review
● Why take a closer look inside the turtle ship?
When faced with a scary or frightening situation, children often close their eyes.
But that doesn't mean the fearful entity disappears.
The way to overcome fear is not to avoid visible enemies, but to control the anxious mind within and cultivate courage.
"Find Yi Sun-sin" begins at a time when rumors of an invasion by Japanese pirates were circulating.
It is the day when the turtle ship is built and launched into the sea for the first time, but the soldiers are gripped by fear and are only anxious about the Japanese pirates.
What would have been General Yi Sun-sin's thoughts as he looked at those soldiers?
Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who was among the people, suddenly jumps out and boards the turtle ship.
Even though he knew the ceremony was coming up soon, he felt like there was something more important than that.
Soldiers board the turtle ship in search of the missing Admiral Yi Sun-sin.
The sight of the turtle ship spread out before them was truly magnificent.
It was enough to regain my lost confidence and ignite the courage and will in my heart.
“How about our ship?”
A soldier answered General Yi Sun-sin's question loudly.
“If the Japanese pirate ships were a school of small anchovies, the turtle ship would be a whale.”

"Find Yi Sun-sin" allows readers to feel the majesty of the turtle ship through the process of finding Yi Sun-sin hidden in the painting, and also reminds them of the importance of confidence and courage within themselves.
● Imagine our ancestors' lives through the turtle ship
The turtle ship in "Find Yi Sun-sin" is based on the most recently restored form, and the artist has richly composed locations and objects to capture the curiosity and perspective of young readers.
The turtle ship's oars, cannons, and doors between the oars for shooting arrows on both sides allow us to guess how fast it would have moved and how it would have fought the Japanese.
Here, we show the food storage, the back room, and the place to drain the water that seeped into the ship, and we are encouraged to imagine what life on a ship was like when there was no war.
By seeing the various interiors of the turtle ship unfold in each scene, readers can feel and think a little more closely about the difficult lives of our ancestors during the Imjin War.
● Appendix to expand children's curiosity into learning
The last chapter of “Find Yi Sun-sin” contains various stories about Yi Sun-sin’s life and the turtle ship that were not covered in the picture book.
This will lead to a deeper learning experience for readers who have become interested in Yi Sun-sin and the turtle ship through the picture book story.
It contains explanations of difficult words in the text, which will help readers improve their comprehension and literacy skills.
Above all, in the case of the turtle ship, scholars' claims about its structure differ due to the lack of surviving data.
The appendix introduces these turtle ship controversies, encouraging readers to explore them further.
● The 'Find' series, a historical figure you encounter for the first time_ Editorial review
The 'Find It' series was planned to break the stereotype that history books are difficult and boring, and to create picture books that are fun and easy for children to enjoy.
I thought about everything from who I would choose as the first historical figure to what I would show about the historical figures.
Thus, we selected people who had made great contributions to the people and the country and were widely known to the public.
They wanted to explain in a way that children could easily understand why they created this and why they behaved this way.
Additionally, to pique children's interest, historical figures are hidden in each scene, allowing them to play a hidden picture game.
The 'Find It' series is structured around the question 'why' and the search for the answer.
At the end of a story, there is always a question for the reader.
The theme of the picture book, contained in a single line of questions, is to encourage children to think and realize things for themselves through questions.
This is a question that readers who have considered the minds and situations of historical figures while reading picture books can easily answer.
The 'Find It' series is our child's first history picture book that introduces and learns about history and people in a fun way.
