A must-read before worry ruins your life!

The magic formula born from the world's first 'worry overcoming laboratory'!

Following Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People," which became an instant bestseller, Hyundai Intelligence published another masterpiece by the author, "Dale Carnegie's Self-Management."
This book is the only complete translation of the original first edition in Korea, containing all 10 parts of the 1948 first edition.

A beautiful old tree that has withstood countless storms and lightning strikes falls helplessly after being attacked by a beetle the size of a human finger joint.
An elephant, whose fighting prowess is so strong that even a lion cannot attack it, is helpless against the thin sting of a honeybee.
Our lives are no different.
As the saying goes, “A single ant hole can destroy a great levee,” there are many people who ruin their lives by easily giving in to petty worries.
Worry doesn't ease tomorrow's sorrows, but rather robs us of the strength to live today. If we allow worry to eat away at our lives, we will pay a heavy price someday.

Dale Carnegie, author of the best-selling book "How to Win Friends and Influence People," realized while teaching adults communication and interpersonal skills that "worry" was the main cause of all life's problems and a key element of self-management.
So I decided to teach 'How to Stop Worrying and Start a New Life'.
But a problem arose.
I couldn't find a book suitable to use as a textbook.
In the end, I had no choice but to write it myself.
This is the background to the birth of another world-class bestseller.

He combed through all kinds of materials from East and West, past and present, and sought advice from experts in each field.
Moreover, by using the lectures held in over 170 cities as a 'worry overcoming laboratory', we collected and analyzed numerous cases and came up with a 'magic formula'.
Written over a period of seven years, including preparation, this book contains all the wisdom you need to shake off your worries, presented concisely and clearly.
It also presents concrete solutions that can be applied immediately, along with vivid examples from celebrities and ordinary neighbors from all walks of life.
These are all methods that have proven effective over a century since the early 20th century when he was active.

This book, which contains the most practical and effective methods to live without worry, is considered a classic self-help book along with Carnegie's other masterpiece, How to Win Friends and Influence People.
If you dream of a happier life beyond your current self, listen to Carnegie's advice, which will awaken you from your lethargic daily life and lead you on the path to change by pinpointing the core.

Into the book
I worked in the 'Worry Overcoming Lab' for five years.
This is my class time for adults.
As far as I know, this is the world's first laboratory built for this purpose.
We gave students some strategies for overcoming anxiety, asked them to apply them to their own lives, and then presented their findings to the class.
Some students shared methods they had used before.
Through this process, I am proud to say that I have heard more 'how to overcome worry' than anyone else in the world.
We also encountered hundreds of case studies selected from classes held in over 170 cities across the United States and Canada.
Therefore, this book was not created in the ivory tower of a university.
This isn't an academic sermon on how to overcome anxiety.
It's a concise and compelling account of how thousands of adults overcame their worries.
As an author, I can be proud of one thing.
This book is concrete and reliable.

From a psychological perspective, what makes Willis Carrier's magic formula so brilliant and practical? It's because it pulls us out of situations where worry, like a thick fog, blinds us and renders us unable to see anything.
The way he writes makes you stand firmly on the ground and face your situation.
Wouldn't it be impossible to think properly if you don't know the situation and the basis? (...)
Psychologically, accepting the worst releases new energy.
If you accept the worst, you have nothing to lose.
Then only what you can get remains.
(…) Many people ruin their own lives in the whirlwind of anger.
They refuse to accept the worst, assume the worst and then try to improve it, and they don't even try to salvage what they can from the wreckage.
Instead of trying to rebuild their lives, they become filled with resentment and engage in 'worst experiences and fierce fights'.
In the end, you become a victim of depression, where your thoughts are fixed and you do not take any action.

Through many experiences, I have learned how important it is to make decisions.
If you can't reach your goals and keep going around in circles, not taking a single step forward, you'll end up with a nervous breakdown and a hellish life.
I've found that the moment I make a clear and firm decision, 50 percent of my worries disappear.
40 percent of decisions disappear when you put them into action.
Ultimately, I was able to eliminate 90 percent of my worries by following these four steps:
1.
I'll write down exactly what I'm worried about.
2.
I write down what I can do.
3.
Decide what to do.
4.
Execute immediately as decided.

Most people find it easy to get 'engaged' when they're working hard or doing something assigned to them.
But the time after work is dangerous.
In our free time, when we should be enjoying our leisure time, the time when we should be most happy, a dark demon called worry attacks us.
That's when we start to worry about whether we're living well, whether we're just going around in circles without any progress, whether what our boss said today meant 'something', or whether we're going to go bald.
(…)
Even an empty mind can be filled.
What will it be filled with? Usually, it's emotions.
Because emotions like worry, fear, disgust, jealousy, and envy arise from primordial vitality and dynamic energy.
Negative emotions crowd out peaceful and happy thoughts and feelings from our minds.

The more influential someone is, the more satisfaction those who kick them away feel.
Edward VIII, now the Duke of Windsor, felt this painfully during his time as crown prince.
He attended Dartmouth College in Devonshire, the equivalent of the Naval Academy in Annapolis in the United States.
At that time, the crown prince was about fourteen years old.
One day, a naval officer saw the crown prince crying and asked what was wrong.
The crown prince initially kept his mouth shut, but eventually he confessed the whole story.
The cadets kicked him.
The university dean called the students in and explained that the crown prince had not been the one who had tatted, and then asked why they had chosen the crown prince to harass them.
The cadets, who had been hesitating and faltering for a long time, finally confessed.
It is said that later, after becoming a commander or captain in the British Navy, he wanted to brag about having kicked the king in the past.
When you get hit or criticized, remember that the abuser does it to feel like he or she is a great person.
Such cases usually prove that you have done something great or are someone who deserves attention.

There is a surprising and important fact.
People don't get tired from mental work alone.
Sounds far-fetched, doesn't it? But a few years ago, scientists studied how long the human brain could work without reaching the scientific definition of fatigue—"a decline in working capacity." Surprisingly, they discovered that the blood flowing through the brain during exercise showed no signs of fatigue.
If we take blood from a vein while a day laborer is working, it will be full of 'fatigue toxins' and fatigue substances.
But if you took a drop of blood from Albert Einstein's brain and examined it after a long day, you would find no trace of fatigue toxins.

Our brains work just as fast after eight or even twelve hours of work as they did at the beginning.
The brain doesn't get tired.
Then why are you tired?

My 15-minute conversation with Professor Baird did more for my health and happiness than my four years of college combined.
He said this:
“Jim, sit down and face the facts.
If you could devote half the energy you spend worrying to solving the problem, your worries would disappear.
“Worry is nothing more than a bad habit that is learned later in life.”
He taught me three rules to break the habit of worrying.
1.
Identify exactly what the problem is.
2.
Identify the cause of the problem.
3.
Do something constructive to solve the problem right now.

Publisher's Review
A 'worry-free life' is no longer a dream!
Proven Methods and Practices to Eliminate the Worry Habit

There is a suspicious laboratory.
There are no measuring instruments displaying complex data on screens, and no shelves full of chemicals.
The crowded room is filled with people chatting in heated voices.
The name is also unique.
"The Worry Overcoming Lab." Who exactly is doing what research here?
The person who opened the laboratory was Dale Carnegie, author of How to Win Friends and Influence People.
From an ordinary salesman to a best-selling author and renowned lecturer, he realized that the root cause of all life's problems is 'worry.'
Many people were wasting their precious lives worrying about useless things.
It was common for people to suffer from stomach ulcers and arthritis due to worry, and some even suffered from cavities and even death.

Carnegie created a curriculum to help them shake off their worries and start a new life, and devoted himself to writing manuscripts that could serve as 'textbooks'.
To this end, he studied a wide range of materials from East and West, past and present, on anxiety, and interviewed prominent figures from all walks of life.
Above all, we have applied our research findings to everyday life by establishing the world's first "overcoming worry laboratory" through courses offered in over 170 cities, collecting and analyzing thousands of case studies.
Through this, he realized that a 'carefree life' was not an empty dream.
By recognizing that worry is a learned bad habit and taking action before it ruins them, the participants' lives changed dramatically.
This book is the result of a concise compilation of the formulas and accumulated know-how derived from this process.

Even if misfortune and worries come
How to Live a 'Real Life' Without Shaking

This book does not list lengthy theories.
We extract only the key contents and convey them with abundant examples.
Because what he intended was a handbook that could always be kept by one's side and referenced.
There are many stories that readers may find hard to believe at first, such as “The magic formula that will make 90 percent of your worries disappear,” “How to cut your career worries in half,” and “How to relieve fatigue and live a youthful life.”
But this is not an exaggeration, as countless people have proven its effectiveness over many years.

After establishing the basic knowledge of worry and the skills to analyze worry, Carnegie expands the topic to include how to eliminate the habit of worrying, how to reduce money worries, how to have an attitude that invites peace and happiness, how to not worry when criticized, and how to kill two birds with one stone: happiness and success.
Although it contains Western examples from the early 20th century, it has many universal applications and still feels completely out of place even after 100 years.
On the contrary, I feel relieved that I am not an unusual 'worrier', and I gain hope by reading about cases where people have overcome similar problems to mine.
If you want to learn how to live a "real life" without wavering even when misfortune and worry come your way, listen to Carnegie's advice.

The original self-help book, available in Korea's only "true" first edition complete translation.
The self-care bible proven to be effective for a century

This book is a complete translation of the first edition published in 1948.
The flavor of the original text has been preserved by including Part 10 (Vivid Stories of Neighbors), which has been omitted in previous translated versions published in Korea.
The stories of the most representative figures of the time and of our neighbors, whom we encounter often in our daily lives, will provide the same enjoyment and emotion as reading an essay or biography.

That is why this book, whose effectiveness has been proven over a century since the early 20th century when Carnegie was active, is so valuable.
If you think about it, all the problems we experience in life are 'there and there'.
We worry about the same things they worry about.
Although times have changed, the way humans feel emotions or react to stimuli has not changed much.
It is no exaggeration to say that among the countless self-help books published today, there is none that has not been influenced by Carnegie.
