Wisdom blooms like a flower in the heart.

For a life that is true to me, a complete life
The teachings of the monk Beopjeong
Trace it by hand and engrave it in your heart

Sometimes strict, but infinitely kind
The Clear and Fragrant Wisdom of a True Adult 138

『The Words and Writings of Monk Beopjeong』 is a handwritten book that allows you to copy by hand and deeply engrave in your heart the wise words and writings of Monk Beopjeong, who personally practiced a life of non-possession and gave us great teachings.
Although 15 years have passed since the Venerable Beopjeong entered nirvana, his words, “The door to happiness opens depending on how much you are free from unnecessary things,” are still a valuable teaching that we must heed.
If we write down each and every word of the wise words and writings of the Venerable Pomnyun, it will help us to calm our minds, which are worn out and distracted by life, and find the direction we should take in our lives going forward.

For transcription, I selected 67 sentences from the clear and profound ‘writings’ of the monk Beopjeong and 71 sentences from the ‘words’ delivered through public lectures.
The 138 sentences in total contain all of the core teachings of the Venerable Beopjeong.
These sentences are divided into nine chapters based on themes such as me, relationships, nature, life and death, non-possession, wisdom, religion, books, and leisure.
The monk Beopjeong said, “I stick to the old-fashioned way of writing with a fountain pen.
(…) “I feel really at ease when I write each line on the manuscript paper,” he says.
Rather than writing it all at once, I hope you will take the time to enrich your life by slowly writing it down with a relaxed mind, reflecting on the wisdom of the monk Beopjeong.

The essence of the words and writings of the Venerable Beopjeong
Write it down and keep it in your heart

Samteo published “Be Happy Yourself” in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the death of Venerable Beopjeong, collecting 29 of his representative essays, including “Non-possession,” “Empty Fullness,” “Flowers Bloom on the Mountain,” “The Forest Is Silent After the Birds Have Left,” and “Letting Go and Leaving.” In addition, on the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Clean and Fragrant Foundation, a non-profit organization founded and led by Venerable Beopjeong, Samteo published “Find Your True Self,” which is a compilation of the public lectures the Venerable Beopjeong gave while traveling around the country.
It is a collection of the words and writings left by the monk Beopjeong, each compiled into a book.
This time, I selected 138 key sentences for transcription.
Through this manuscript, you can read, follow, and take to heart the essence of the words and writings of the Venerable Beopjeong.

Into the book
Because only when I am alone do my ears open
Hear something.
Hear the birds chirp and the wind blow
Hearing the rabbits and deer passing by, rustling
Hear the sound.
The sound of flowers blooming, the sound of flowers withering,
The sound of the setting sun, and sometimes the years turn their heads
I hear a sigh as I pass by.
therefore
Listening is like looking into my inner garden.
It's work.
--- p.22 From “Listening”

How can I become one with the world?
Should I? Ask yourself, “Who am I?”
The face inside you will be fully revealed
You have to ask and ask again until you get it.
Don't ask dryly
Let the voice within the voice reach the ear within the ear
Ask earnestly until then.
The answer lies in the question
It's in there.
You can't get an answer without asking
no.
“Who am I?” Ask yourself again and again.
--- p.52 From “Who Am I?”

Living is about changing every moment.
Change is the essence of life and what makes us alive.
It is a process of proving.
We live to survive,
And to live more humanely in this world
We are born to grow old, get sick, and die.
It is not that.
Our lives are constantly changing
We demand change and grow and mature through it.
--- p.178 From “Change is the essence of life”

Now my ears hear the sound of the wind blowing through the bamboo forest
In the clear flowing stream of the mountain valley, or
From the birdsong in the forest, to Vivaldi or Bach
You can hear music more profound than the melody.
In an empty room
When I sit alone, everything is abundant and sufficient.
Because it is empty, it is more beautiful than when it is full.
It's more fulfilling.
--- p.184 From “Because It’s Empty”

Possessions are more than just what we own.
We own ourselves.
So if necessary
You should live according to your desires, not according to your desires.
You must be able to discern the difference between desire and need.
The measure of happiness is how much you have of what you need.
It doesn't matter whether it exists or not.
Unnecessary things that are not necessary
Depending on how much you are free from it
The door to happiness opens.
--- p.192 From “The Scale of Happiness”

Whatever you do, you should do it with interest.
That's how life becomes a joy.
What I do
I do it because I like it, not to achieve something.
You shouldn't do that.
Do what you love
It is a full life.
If it's for something to happen, then that's it
It's not interest, it's ambition.
There is joy in ambition
There is no pain and suffering follows.
--- p.230 From “Doing Things Because You Like It”

If we want to achieve coexistence and symbiosis, we must slow down now.
do.
It has to flow slowly.
Reading the inner self as if reading a poem
You have to look into it.
We need to put it into practice, not just talk.
do.
When those hearts gather together, in the sky there
Clouds flow and lotus flowers bloom in the pond there.
Look up quietly and see the river within you.
There
Read the flowing cycle of life.
--- p.358 From "It Must Flow Slowly"
