What is life
What is life
Description
Book Introduction
It has long been predicted that the 21st century would be the "age of life sciences" or the "age of genetic engineering," and such predictions have not been far off the mark.
Rather, the advancements in modern life sciences, represented by the initial completion of the Human Genome Project and the birth of Dolly the cloned sheep, seem to be surpassing our imagination.

Schrödinger's "What is Life?" anticipated this situation over 60 years ago and raised various questions about life science.
Of course, since the publication of this book, a great many new facts about life have been discovered and confirmed through experiments.
However, the answer to the question, 'What is life?' does not seem to have improved much.
The reason this book still holds significance in the modern era is probably because of the intense spirit of inquiry that seeks to comprehensively explain the world, including life, and the humble attitude of a scholar and human being that is considered the foundation of that spirit.
