[Yesuri Cover] Amorphous Life
Description
Book Introduction
“It took a long time to meet me in this form. “I really wanted to meet you, this stranger.” A Romantic Promise Just for Me: Kim Min-cheol's Paris Travelogue This is a story written while staying for two months in Paris, the author's favorite city, which he has loved with unwavering love for 22 years. The author quit the company he had worked for for 20 years and first flew to Paris, the destination of his dreams. From there, I returned to a life that was more densely packed with a different pace and trajectory than my previous travels, and I regained a life that was a little closer to happiness in my own way. This book allows you to fully experience the excitement of travel, as it conveys through the author's lens three-dimensionally and vividly the landscapes with special winds, lights, sounds, and textures, and the things that only existed there. Additionally, the author, who became a 'natural person' after leaving his job, also contains his reflections on the numerous 'amorphous lives' he encountered in Paris. A journey unfolds in which one asks oneself questions and finds answers about the new life that lies before oneself. |

Into the book
People called it 'Paris', but there were many stories I couldn't squeeze into those two words.
Let's slowly peel away the dust of everyday life, let's gently shake off the dust of time, and the dream of Paris still flutters with youth.
Thanks to that, I returned from two months in Paris, a time that cannot be compressed into one book.
It can't be that simple.
Because my suitcase contains not only two months' worth of luggage, but also decades of time.
---From the "Prologue"
It was a strange thing.
Luo's signature black lines began to be read not as darkness, but as his solidity.
That unique thickness began to seem not to be the thickness of sadness, but the thickness of the time he had accumulated.
Despite all the difficulties, the writer steadily walked his own path.
Fighting against doubts, he pushed forward with his own colors and lines.
(…) My eyes became clearer.
My legs felt strong.
My mind became clearer as if I had been hit with cold water.
My heart has become stronger.
It was clearly the same picture, but the new feeling it gave me that day was courage.

From now on, it will take time for all the calluses to come off, for the prickly period of raw skin to pass, and for new skin to grow.
We need some quiet time.
If you spread the softness of the butter you ate today on your heart, wrap it in various cheeses, and bathe it in the seven colors of the rainbow, new skin will grow before it's too late.
(…) My curiosity grew.
What kind of trip would it be if it wasn't a trip where you force yourself to run away and leave?
If the feeling of resentment doesn't grow as the day of return approaches, what direction will the trip take?
If this is a trip where I can live at my own pace, what pace would I want to live at?
I was about to write, "Let's try to find that speed," but then I stopped.
You don't have to look for it.
You don't have to do anything.
It's time for that.
But I gave myself the gift of time.

I sit on the Canal Saint-Martin, drink a can of beer each, and mingle with young people.
We know how mercilessly time has been treating us so far, so we try to be more relaxed.
We live in a time that seems unacceptable, in a way that seems unacceptable.
Even though Montmartre is right in front of us, instead of climbing the hill, we eat and chat leisurely.
I put on my hot pink dress again and went to Monet's garden in Giverny, went to Auvers-sur-Oise to see the room where Van Gogh last stayed, and visited Van Gogh's wheat fields and his grave.
We also have a short picnic at the Uaz River.
Whatever we did, it was our first time together.
At first, the small things pile up like cherry blossom petals.

The artist sat us down, complete beginners who were trying oil pastels for the first time, and began the class as if there were no problem.
It seemed like you were explaining the basics of oil pastels, which was strange.
Why is my heart, which has been heavy for so long, slowly starting to relax?
Why is it that my desire to draw with courage keeps growing?
“Don’t try to draw the exact shape.
Don't be conscious of the outline, just look at it as a mass of color.
Here's a pink one, with a yellow lump next to it, and a white one at the end.
You know what's amazing? There's nothing wrong with oil pastels.
Look at this.
If you suddenly draw like this, it might seem wrong, right? If you think it's wrong, you can just start over from there.
There is nothing wrong with that.”

There are lives where we push forward with our whole body on a narrow path, embracing sharp edges we never even imagined, and there are lives where we face our fears and protect our own world.
There are lives where you live by building fences around the things you want to do, even without the safety fences that someone else has built for you.
I encountered such courage, such boldness, such a strange positivity in Paris.

I took a deep breath and exhaled deeply, wondering how long it had been since I felt this sensation.
There are new senses that awaken only in nature.
There is a breadth of thought given by the vastness of the sea, a keenness of hearing awakened by the rustling of pebbles, and a vibration of the heart awakened by the shaking of small wild flowers.
They came to me at the same time and I was extremely happy there.

Publisher's Review
When you cross a line in life
New words, new imaginations, new worlds unfold.
Author Kim Min-cheol joined the advertising agency TBWA as the youngest copywriter and worked there for 20 years, rising to the position of creative director.
He grew up in the world of advertising with his colleagues, seniors and juniors, and 'me', and became an author of several books, including 'How to Cross Over to My Job', 'Travel Every Day of the Week', and 'Record of Every Day of the Week'.
The results of my efforts to maintain my daily routine and not crumble before work were excellent, but no matter how far away I looked, the company was still there, and it became increasingly difficult to keep my wits about me in the face of the tasks that were hurling at me like debt collectors every day.
I wanted to regain the senses that had been dulled by speed and efficiency, I wanted to greet a gentle morning, and above all, I wanted to know if 'amorphous time' could exist for me too.
A different kind of life was needed.
Love was needed to mend a heart that had been shattered into pieces.
I wanted to leave for the world of my long-held dreams, the world that some people call 'Paris', a world I have loved since I was twenty.
That's how this journey begins.
I left for Paris in search of a very simple and intuitive happiness.
Love blossomed at the age of twenty, in the Pompidou Center Library in Paris.
After falling in love at first sight there, I promised myself that I would return here on a good day, with a better me, but it took 20 years for that dream, which always gave way to a buckling knee, to become reality.
I've come here on vacation before, but I've never been able to escape the status of a passing traveler.
But this time it was different.
When I arrived in Paris, it was May, the spring when various colors began to bloom in the colorless city, and now two months had passed in the place that had become 'my neighborhood'.
I began to immerse myself in Paris by greeting the morning runners, walking through the Luxembourg Gardens, and nibbling on freshly picked traditos.
It wasn't easy, but I left the 'me' of the past, who planned my trips meticulously with anxiety and obsession, behind in Korea.
My only goal was to not confine my journey to a narrow imagination and to immerse myself in the direction my heart was flowing.
Then I came face to face with the bare face of Paris that I had longed to see so much.
If this is romance,
You can be led as much as you want
Paris presents itself in different forms during the two seasons of spring and summer.
From the heart of Paris, often called a "tourist destination," to the truly local, the intellectual pleasure of enjoying not only the nooks and crannies of Paris that are known but also unknown, but also the deep and broad world of taste that author Kim Min-cheol has solidly established over a long period of time adds to its charm.
She is a lover of art, so much so that 'visiting the same museum multiple times' is one of the things she wants to do in Paris. Starting with the Pompidou Center, she visits the Bourdelle Museum, the Zadkine Museum, and the Orsay Museum, and shows her special perspective and appreciation for paintings and sculptures.
Although he has always had a special love for cheese and wine, his own adventures expand as he explores the finer details throughout his travels.
I want to continue to travel this life, amorphously
All of this is the courage to get back the things I love.
It is the courage to stand tall in front of the things I like, spreading my own 'goodness' such as dreams, romance, tastes, and happiness that I clearly had a long time ago but have now lost.
'Amorphous Life' is the title of the book, but it is also the author's pledge to revive this sparkling ability and create a life of his own.
We all don't know what form or time the future holds, but if we don't lose sight of what makes us shine today, we can get one step closer to the happiness we desire.
It doesn't matter if it's not Paris.
My favorite place is the center of the Earth, so stand there, terribly infected with this courage and this heart, and hold the sparkle of today in your hands.
