Into the book
I walk and walk around Beijing every month.
To provide more accurate information.
If I can reduce the unnecessary steps you take, I believe that it is meaningful in itself.
It was very rewarding to hear the story of a foreign student who traveled to Beijing every weekend with this book and passed it on to his juniors in the dormitory.
Today, for new readers, I walk the alleys of Beijing again, hoping to shed a little less sweat.
--- p.15, from "Prologue"
Tiantan Park, located at the end of the vocational school, can be said to be the starting point of the north-south line that runs through the center of Beijing.
When you stand in front of the Qinyuan Hall and the Yuanqiu Altar where the Ming and Qing emperors offered sacrifices to heaven, the harmony of circles and squares conveys the message of the universe that “heaven and earth are square.”
The number of columns, steps, and even the number of bands on the stone walls remaining in the circular and square structures are all designed in multiples of '9', and the fun of seeing at a glance the advanced architectural techniques that reflect the authority of heaven, earth, and the emperor is also a special point of interest during the trip.
--- p.64, from “The Road Connected to the Sky, Tiantandongmen Station in Cheondan Park”
Unlike central Beijing, the western region is not as densely packed with attractions, but there are surprisingly many places worth seeing.
Duyan Pavilion Park, known as the beautiful sanctuary of love, showcases the essence of Chinese pavilion culture.
The restored Huguang Hall, reminiscent of the splendid stage from the film Farewell My Concubine, is a place where you can see authentic Beijing opera.
It's not fancy, but it's basic
If you want to see a serious Peking Opera, remember Hogwang Hall.
Another attraction is the Beijing Grand View Garden, which recreates the world from the classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber.
The Capital Museum, which records and organizes the history of Beijing, and the Zhonghua Century Museum, which recreates Chinese history, are also places that are consistently loved.
--- p.141 From “Into the World of Beijing Opera and the Novel Dream of the Red Chamber” by Tao Lanting
This 'forest of skyscrapers' centered around Guomao Station is a space where the Chinese government and businesses stand shoulder to shoulder.
Among them, there is a forest of buildings centered around Samsung and the CITIC Tower, the tallest building in China and boasting the highest observation deck, across from the CCTV headquarters.
Below, a street lined with luxury shopping malls and boutiques leads, while nearby, sophisticated counterfeit markets coexist with digital art spaces like "The Place." The CBD is more than just a business district; it's an urban space where culture and consumption intersect.
As you wander between the exhibitions at the Gemini Art Museum and the outdoor circus performances at Chaoyang Park, you'll encounter the leisure and vitality permeating the grounds of glass and concrete.
--- p.169, from “Guomao Station, Beijing’s Fashionable Street”
Liangmaqiao Station, located between Sanyuanqiao, the gateway to Beijing, and Sanlitun, and the embassy district, is famous as a business district.
Although there are no famous tourist attractions, it is located on the 3rd ring road leading to the airport, making it the starting point of the eastern region.
Liangmaqiao Station, which is densely packed with numerous tourist hotels and high-rise buildings, is set against the backdrop of Wangjing, where a Korean town has formed, and China's first lifestyle shopping park, SOLANA, and Chaoyang Park.
It is also a popular area for many tourists due to its convenient transportation and accessibility, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Beijing.
As the sun sets in the west of Beijing, another sun rises in the east.
Because locals flock to busy areas like Sanlitun and Guomao Station after work.
Therefore, this area can be said to be a border area that crosses Beijing's past and present.

Publisher's Review
Mission in Beijing
Everything You Must Do in Beijing
Beijing, a city where past, present, and future coexist! Beijing, arguably the center of China, boasts numerous landmarks that evoke the image of "China."
From the Forbidden City to the red flags of Tiananmen Square, the Yuanmingyuan and Summer Palaces, the most splendid imperial villas in Chinese history, to the Great Wall, one of the greatest achievements of mankind, and Gubei Water Town, a popular tourist destination among young travelers these days, these are the places that Koreans must visit before they die.
The mission part tells you all the must-see spots and must-do things in Beijing.
With over 150 museums to choose from, we've compiled a list of must-see museums and art galleries in Beijing, along with 10 key spots to help you make the most of your short stay.
In addition, you can discover places that truly capture the essence of Beijing, including religious sites, places that offer a glimpse into Beijing's traditional culture, and nighttime hotspots lit up in the dark.
Let's explore Beijing, a city of gastronomy where you can taste familiar Korean dishes like Peking duck, hot pot, and dim sum, and a shopping mecca with antique markets and trendsetting shopping malls.

The perfect way to enjoy Beijing
Enjoy your trip to Beijing lightly and conveniently now!
『Beijing Self-Travel』 contains all the know-how for traveling to Beijing that you won't find anywhere else.
The author, who runs a trading company and visits China every month, simultaneously collects and organizes information about China and travelers based on his business trips, introducing the 'essence' of traveling to Beijing.
In particular, the latest edition of 『Beijing Self-Travel』25-26 is a revised edition after seven years, and looks at the ever-changing face of China through the eyes of a traveler.
Recently, in addition to the convenience of a subway network that covers the central and eastern regions of China, excluding the suburbs, the emergence of 'DiDi', a callable taxi reminiscent of Korea's 'Kakao Taxi', and the ease of mobile payment such as Alipay and WeChat Pay, which were difficult for foreigners to use, have made it possible to travel lightly without cash.
Based on the subway map and recommended courses included in 『Beijing Self-Travel』, I was able to travel all over Beijing and have a complete trip with just one book.
"Beijing Self-Travel"'s greatest strength, the Tip Box, makes DiDi a breeze! The "Getting There by Taxi" Tip Box, included at each stop, contains instructions in Chinese for the specific spot. Simply show it to the driver without using a translation app, making it the most useful tip.
Among these, tourist attractions boasting enormous scale, such as Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, and the Forbidden City, have recommended routes to enjoy the core attractions, and small maps that allow you to see each spot at a glance have also been updated without fail.
Every spot is marked with helpful Chinese characters, pronunciation, and even tones, so don't miss out on the fun of connecting with locals while traveling! This revised edition of "Beijing Self-Travel" (volumes 25-26) also includes meticulously updated information on hot spots like Sanlitun Village and Universal Studios, which showcase modern Beijing at its best.
For travelers who have already visited all of Beijing's historical sites and landmarks, discover the new charms of Beijing by visiting the hot spots newly included in this revised edition.
Walking like a local, while retaining the excitement of a traveler
Rediscovering the stories that permeate Beijing's alleyways
Beijing travel is easier and more enjoyable the more you know! If you're busy planning your route and running around, you might miss out on the uniquely human stories Beijing has to offer.
『Beijing Self-Travel』 presents stories from various places in the city discovered by the author, who travels between Korea and China every month, and transforms them into interesting reading material.
The book is full of hidden information that can only be found in the revised editions of 『Beijing Self-Travel』 25-26, including coffee shops scattered across the hottest alleyways and jazz bars with an atmosphere that captivates both locals and travelers.
Step to Beijing
Quick and easy travel preparation
Even first-time visitors to Beijing won't have a hard time! "Beijing Self-Travel" includes detailed maps for each area, allowing you to map out your destination and plan your route. You can also navigate on foot while keeping track of your current location.
Considering Beijing's diverse hotel landscape, from luxury hotels to converted Siheyuans, we've compiled information on key accommodations in the city's four regions—Central, Western, Eastern, and Suburbs—in "Where to Stay in Beijing," enhancing efficiency.
Let's choose a hotel by price range, whether it's an economical hotel, a business hotel, or a luxury hotel.
In particular, the step section contains useful information for travelers who are new to overseas travel, including everything you need to prepare before going to Beijing, as well as the process from departure to return.
It provides detailed information on how to prepare for a visa-required trip to China, and also provides information on automated immigration screening using fingerprints and transportation into downtown Beijing after entering China, divided into different methods.
This revised edition contains step-by-step instructions on how to install and use Alipay, so prepare for your trip to Beijing!
