Description
Book Introduction
Multicultural counseling competencies will be emphasized as a competency that Korean counselors will need in the future, and counselor training in this area is expected to increase.
The reason Korean society and counselors have become interested in multicultural counseling is likely the increase in married immigrant women and their families.
However, in multicultural counseling, multiculturalism is not limited to multiethnicity due to marriage immigration.

This book interprets multiculturalism as the diverse cultural backgrounds that counselors and clients bring to the counseling relationship.
These diverse cultural backgrounds include age and generational influences, disabilities, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, indigenous culture, nationality, and gender.
It is important not only to understand the client's cultural background, but also for the counselor to understand his or her own cultural background.

As you read, you may feel cognitive confusion, doubt, emotional discomfort, and the burden of the counselor role.
If so, then you are reflecting on the contents of the book.
Although the new term multiculturalism is used, counselors must strive to fully understand and help their clients.
However, they may not have been able to fully fulfill that role because they did not take into account the cultural influences of themselves and their clients.
While I have pursued the status of an expert, I have reflected on whether I have forgotten to place the client at the center of the counseling process.
After finishing writing the book, the theme of 'survival' struck me the most.
Perhaps humans are beings who live out the existence called life.
