Creating Fun Classes Where Students Ask Questions: Play
Creating Fun Classes Where Students Ask Questions: Play
Description
Book Introduction
The first step toward learning: asking questions.
Now let's approach it as play!

Questions are not simply about asking what you don't know.
Learning begins when students question and wonder about something.
By asking questions about objects or phenomena, searching for and reading materials to answer them, and critically examining them, students build and expand their own knowledge.
Students also listen to other students' questions, think from different perspectives, and collaborate to solve problems together.
In this way, questions spark inquiry and help lead to deeper learning.
However, while many people agree on the importance of questions, they find it difficult to readily answer when asked how to help students ask good questions.
This book began with the question, “How can we make it more enjoyable and easier for students to ask questions that encourage deep thought and reflection?”

Publisher's Review
Korean language education professors and field teachers
47 Questions Game Developed and Enhanced

The authors designed an activity that combines 'questions' with 'play' to free students from the burden of asking questions and allow them to create questions in a fun way.
The authors, who are Korean language education professors and field teachers, have been studying and researching together for a long time to develop games that allow students to enjoy asking questions, games that teach them the value and importance of questions, games that help them listen to their friends' questions and understand their minds, and games that make learning fun.
The 47 question games included in this book are the result of these thoughts and practices.

Additionally, the authors further developed the games by modifying and supplementing them while conducting actual classes in various schools and subjects.
That is why this book contains the authors' extensive experience and know-how gained while conducting question-and-answer classes.
Each game consists of the following contents:

· Description and instructional procedures for the game
· Questions and activity results created by students while playing
· How to deal with problems that may arise during class
· Play methods modified according to the level and characteristics of students and the nature of learning materials
· Students' impressions of their activities

Based on actual class implementation, the process of conducting question play classes is presented step by step in detail, and the results and impressions of actual students' activities are shown with photos.
We also covered ways to deal with problems that may arise during class and ways to make play more effective.
Teachers can more easily apply question play activities in the field through specific explanations and vivid examples of individual plays.

A classroom with questions, a classroom where students actively ask questions of one another and listen attentively to each other's questions, and earnestly pursue knowledge, is something that teachers and students create together.
The various question games introduced in this book will serve as a foundation for genuine conversations between teachers and students in the classroom.

Author's Note
I saw the potential for a class where teachers and students create together, rather than a class where the teacher leads alone.
And as I pondered why questions are necessary, how to ask them well, and how to create a culture of questioning, and as I put those thoughts into practice in class, I realized that the questions students create are in themselves valuable treasures.

Of course, when we first started teaching using the question game, we were also afraid.
But students are much smarter, more ingenious, and more creative than teachers think.
You can tell by looking at the students' questions.
And even though it might feel like you're wasting class time at first, you'll find it rewarding to see students asking meaningful questions, engaging in discussions, and working to find answers on their own.
