I held a chubby rabbit
Description
Book Introduction
People clearly recognize dogs and cats as pets, but they are still indifferent to other living creatures.
The number of rabbits abandoned each year is approximately 200 or more.
The number of abandoned rabbits has been steadily increasing, to the point that it has been reported on public broadcasting for several years now.
Thanks to this, it is now easy to see rabbits even in parks in the heart of Seoul.
People who abandon rabbits believe that releasing them into parks is the same as returning them to nature.
However, domestic rabbits are not wild species, so they eventually die without being able to adapt.
Moreover, because of their unique reproductive ability, the misfortune is passed on to the next generation.
This book is the story of an individual facing such reality.
The story of someone who, through purely personal effort, rescued abandoned rabbits, provided temporary shelter, and watched them closely through their heartbreaking farewells.
I'm introducing you to a book that blends stark reality with heartwarming lyrical sentiment, because our attitude toward small lives reflects our own.

Into the book
Korea has four distinct seasons.
In hot and humid summers, many rabbits die during the rainy season, and even indoor pet rabbits often suffer from stomach congestion, loss of appetite, dehydration, and in severe cases, even death during the summer.
In the cold winter, they may starve to death because they cannot find food.
Weather isn't the only threat to their survival.
Baby rabbits, who have just become independent from their mothers, are killed by natural enemies such as cats, dogs, and birds of prey as soon as they come out of the burrow.
They don't learn how to escape when they encounter a natural enemy, or where and how to find food.
The only way to survive is to be lucky enough to be unnoticed or to be rescued by humans.

Publisher's Review
I had no idea until I received the manuscript.
It's unimaginable that so many rabbits are struggling for survival in the middle of the city.
However, the photos that came with the manuscript were all shocking.
From rabbits hiding in trees on the street, to rabbits crouching under cars, to children on the brink of death, holding their children and a child who lost an eye to starvation and disease…
Of course, all of this is only a part of the manuscript.
It also contains stories of lives that were on the verge of death being adopted, finding families, and living happy lives.
Perhaps that is why there are scenes of separation that are even more tearful.
An essay where stark reality and heart-wrenching lyrical sentiments walk side by side.
It was by no means an easy task for the editor, but I believe that is what makes it all the more valuable.
No, surely those who read this book will reach out to help small lives like rabbits.
