I am a doctor who is crazy about aroma.
Description
Book Introduction
In Korea, aromatherapy is known only as a way to relax the mind and body by smelling scents.
However, in France, aroma essential oils are prescribed in hospitals to treat diseases and are also sold in pharmacies.
The author, who is the first in Korea to practice aroma medicine, treating various diseases with essential oil recipes, says that aroma essential oils are a precious gift from nature, given by God.
As a director of an otolaryngology clinic for 40 years, he was wondering if there was an alternative to the overuse of antibiotics used for sinusitis, tonsillitis, and otitis media, and then came across aromatherapy.
In Korea, due to a lack of resources, I am carefully developing aroma medicine by purchasing original books and conducting research, as well as attending seminars by scholars following the lineage of Dr. Jean Valnet of France.
This book is the author's 20-year journey with aroma essential oils.
First, it contains a confession about the difficult times experienced while incorporating aroma medicine into treatment.
Additionally, all academic information on aroma essential oils that have been studied so far is introduced.
It contains the history and scientific basis of essential oils passed down from ancient times, and introduces the types and effects of over 40 essential oils actually used in clinical practice.
Treatment cases from actual clinical settings are also introduced, allowing you to learn about the effectiveness of aroma essential oils.

Into the book
In January 2014, I received a call from the writer of [Cheon Ki-nuseol], which was airing on MBN.
I received a request to film about rhinitis.
Among the clinical cases so far, we filmed a case in which a 5-year-old child in Suwon's symptoms improved by taking aroma water.
I remember filming a 4-minute segment repeatedly over 7 hours.
At the time, I was running a blog called 'Edible Aroma Oil' on Naver, and as soon as it was aired on [Cheon Ki Nu Seol] in February, more than 1,000 people visited it per day, and reservation calls started pouring in from all over the country, including Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Sejong, Gwangju, Jeonju, and Jeju.
After that, in April, he filmed about Parkinson's disease on SBS [Discovery of Life], and in June, he appeared on MTN [Kim Saeng-min Show].
Additionally, in August, the Korean Aroma Medicine Society held a seminar at the Baekbeom Memorial Hall for approximately 100 aromatherapists, doctors, and oriental medicine doctors.
It was Korea's first aroma oil seminar.

Plant metabolites include carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and nucleic acids, which are primary metabolites necessary for the survival of plants.
Secondary metabolites include glycosides, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, bitters, and the only fat-soluble (li--- po--- p.hilic) essential oil.
Only 1% of flowering plants (p.lant) produce essential oils.
Here, because essential oils are fat-soluble, they can be used as a medium by plants to protect themselves by spraying them into the air, to attract butterflies, bees, etc. to use them as a medium for their own reproduction, and to send signals to their fellows to warn them of danger from enemies.
If it were water-soluble (Hydro--- p.hilic) like glycosides, it would have been sprayed into the air.
Additionally, because of its fat-soluble nature, it can act on the cell membranes, proteins (neurotransmitters, enzymes, receptors), DNA, and RNA of enemies (bacteria, fungi, viruses, cancer, etc.) inside plants, thereby defeating them.
--- p.85
Essential oils contain between 100 and 400 different chemical compounds.
Lavender is composed of over 200 different chemically structured ingredients, including linalyl acetate, linalool, and terpinen-4-ol.
The main ingredients, linalyl acetate and linalool, have various pharmacological effects such as antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, analgesic, sedative, and hair growth promotion.
However, the remaining ingredients, other than the main ingredient, also work together with the main ingredient when responding to certain symptoms, that is, they work synergistically within lavender oil to exert their effects.
--- p.102
For example, modern medicine prohibits multiple prescriptions for a disease.
When prescribing multiple medications, there is a higher chance of side effects such as allergies rather than a synergistic effect.
However, in the case of aroma medicine, rather than prescribing a single oil, a mixture of 2 to 4 oils is prescribed.
At that time, you can see that the ingredients of each oil have a synergistic effect, maximizing their therapeutic efficacy.
This is the biggest difference and advantage compared to petroleum-based pharmaceuticals.
In order to achieve this synergy effect, the most important thing is the ability of the 'aroma medicine specialist'.
--- p.106
The Moors planted rosemary bushes in their orchards instead of hedges, believing that it would ward off the plague.
It is said that Queen Isabella of Hungary maintained her youthful appearance by washing her face with rosemary oil as she grew older.
When a plague broke out in Europe in the 15th century, people burned rosemary in their homes and inhaled its fragrance to prevent and treat the plague.
Rosemary is a powerful preservative oil that can even be used to preserve meat.
Rosemary oil is divided into three chemotypes based on its chemical composition, and its uses vary accordingly.
- Rosemary Camphor Type: Used for muscle pain, etc.
- Rosemary cineole type: used for respiratory system
- Rosemary Verbenone Type: Used for skin care
--- p.164
As you know, there are many conditions that must be met before we reach a bottle of essential oil.
You come across numerous variables such as soil, plant species (seeds), fertilizers, geography, climate, altitude, harvest time, distillation time, pressure and temperature.
From planting the seeds, cultivating them, harvesting them, distilling them, and packaging them, each process is crucial to maintaining the essential oil's vital compounds.
The key to achieving Thera-p.eutic (therapeutic) grade in essential oils is to preserve as many of the natural aromatic compounds as possible.
In other words, the highest grade essential oils contain the optimal ingredients that are naturally pure and produced within the plant, without any artificial chemicals or artificial adulteration, starting from the seeds that are sown in good quality soil that is not mixed with artificial fertilizers, and throughout the entire process from cultivation, distillation, and packaging.

Publisher's Review
People call him 'Don Quixote' or 'Amiman'.
It means 'a man crazy about aroma'.
The author, who was struggling to find an alternative to the overuse of antibiotics, became seriously obsessed with aromatherapy after treating his own rheumatoid arthritis, which was not treatable with modern medicine.
I started to immerse myself in aroma research.
He closed down a successful hospital in Gyeonggi Province and started an aroma specialty hospital with great enthusiasm, but the mountain of reality he had to overcome was high and arduous.
This book contains the story of the author, who has been practicing aroma medicine for 20 years and has encountered numerous obstacles, but has not given up and has continued to conduct research and clinical trials.
"Shouldn't there be doctors like me, with a knack for treating medicine as a natural phenomenon and finding answers within it, who speak differently from the artificial perspectives of the world?"
In the epilogue, the author says:
Medicine is advancing and countless medicines are being developed.
But the more this happens, the stronger the bacteria and viruses become.
This is because viruses become more resistant to existing drugs and become more powerful.
The world has been at war with the coronavirus, but now there are warnings that a virus even more powerful than the coronavirus could emerge.
One essential oil contains 100 to 400 components.
It is said that when you blend and use different types of oils, thousands of ingredients mix together to create a synergistic effect.
They say viruses cannot develop resistance.
Doctors looking for an alternative to antibiotics have found the answer in essential oils.
The author's confession that 'medicine is a natural phenomenon and that answers are found within it' is the spirit that runs through this book.
He studies the components of essential oils and uses them in medical settings.
I am rushing forward alone like Don Quixote, seeing the clinical results of treatment and improvement.
I hope that someday, more extensive and detailed research will be conducted to provide hope to many chronic, incurable patients.
