Into the book
Sewol ferry.
I debated for a long time whether or not to bring this word up.
The reason I was hesitant was because I didn't want the content in this book to be treated politically.
But in January 2022, I decided to tell this story.
Because the most important thing to me right now is to solve this problem before it's too late.
In 2014, Koreans witnessed a common tragedy.
A ship sank off the coast of Jindo, and many people were unable to return to land.
In human life, unfortunate accidents sometimes occur.
There have been several incidents in world history where ships sank or planes crashed.
But there is a reason why the Sewol ferry disaster is more heartbreaking than a normal accident.
Maybe all the passengers could have survived.
If the people in charge had dealt with the problem properly when it first occurred, many people could have been saved from the ship.
Even as time passed and the ship began to list, there was still a chance for passengers to get out onto the ship.
But that didn't happen.
This is because the ship's manager, disaster relief manager, government officials, and the media failed to do their jobs as the accident progressed.
There are many moments from the beginning of a problem to the end of a tragedy.
At every moment, there are those who bear important responsibilities.
If they do their part in a timely manner, problems can be resolved before they become serious.
The opportunity to solve the problem is also given to another person.
He is a witness to the problem.
If the first person to see a small fire somewhere picks up a fire extinguisher, the fire can be put out even without the fire department arriving.
If someone collapses from a cardiac arrest on the street and CPR is performed in a timely manner, the person can be saved before the ambulance arrives.
Over the past 50 years, the incidence of metabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer has increased significantly worldwide.
What is happening in modern times with regard to these ambassadorial issues is structurally similar to the Sewol Ferry incident.
If you look closely at the nature of metabolic disease, you will understand that my expression is not an exaggeration at all.
In this book, I will provide a fresh perspective on the problems with the choices we make every day regarding food and the metabolic problems they create.
And we will introduce a new methodology to solve that problem.
This information can change the lives of you, your loved ones, and those who will be born into this world in the future.

Publisher's Review
- This is a book written by health YouTuber Choi Gyeom, who has been researching diet for 7 years.
It contains insights gained through objective analysis and research of various overseas data.
It points out the flaws in the traditional diet paradigm that most medical/nutrition/fitness experts currently believe in, and explains the nature of obesity through a new model called the 'multilayer hormonal network.'
- He emphasizes that obesity is not simply a situation where too many calories are accumulated in the body, but a situation where there is a problem with the metabolic system.
We have long thought that being overweight simply means having a lot of body fat.
But obesity is a more internal and complex problem than that.
Obese people have metabolic problems centered around their organs and hormones.
- The author argues that many people fail at dieting not because of their own fault, but because of a problem with their method.
A diet that simply involves consuming fewer calories and increasing exercise is bound to fail 'in the long run'.
He proves this logically using various thesis examples.
- The author suggests the 'STILES DIET' as a sustainable weight loss method without the yo-yo effect.
The essence of the Styles Diet is to correct metabolic problems and restore bodily functions by focusing on six habits.
As metabolism recovers, stagnant body fat breakdown is activated and body fat is naturally reduced.
- This book will lead those who are physically and mentally exhausted from repeated diet failures to a new direction.
If you accurately identify the metabolic problems in your body and correct the habits that cause them, you will have a completely changed body and mind within a year.
“The slight difference in perspective that I will show you in the future will completely change the outcome.
“It’s like when you go far along a compass angle difference of 1 degree, you arrive at a completely different place.”

"Diet Science 2022," written by diet researcher Choi Kyeom, has been published.
Diet Science is a book that contains the author's insights gained through six years of analyzing and researching various overseas data.
It points out the errors in the current mainstream diet paradigm and explains the essence of obesity and diet from a new perspective.
[Background]
The author's research on diet dates back to the winter of 2015.
A friend of mine took her own life, and another friend told me about her past struggles with depression.
The onset of her depression was due to a poor diet.
The author's friend 'succeeded' in short-term weight loss in her early 20s through diet pills, diet control, and exercise.
But soon the yo-yo phenomenon occurred.
I started dieting again and lost and gained weight repeatedly.
She was doing her best.
I worked out for two hours every day, and my fridge was full of vegetables and chicken breast.
The start of the low-calorie diet was bearable.
But soon, an irresistible appetite came over me and I started binge eating.
I ate until I was out of breath, and when I came to, I threw up the food in the toilet.
And then I started dieting again.
The more I repeated this diet, the worse my body became and the more I developed mental problems.
The author first became aware of this phenomenon through the case of a friend.
I wanted to understand the cause of the problem, so I started interviewing other dieters.
In the process, he discovered that many dieters had similar experiences to his friend.
He concluded that this phenomenon was a social problem, not an individual problem.
And then, I decided to find out what was wrong with the mainstream diet paradigm.
[In search of the essence of obesity]
The author, who began his diet research in this way, collected and analyzed information through various overseas papers and materials from experts.
A fundamental principle of the research process was to abandon bias.
What mattered was not fame or authority, but logic and facts.
This work continued for six years, with scientists searching for answers.
During the course of the research, the author realized that we had been misunderstanding the nature of obesity.
Obesity is not simply a condition in which a lot of body fat has accumulated.
Obesity is a condition in which excessive body fat is stored due to a problem in the metabolic system.
When someone gains a lot of weight while also having problems with their appetite and condition, it is a symptom that reveals a problem with their metabolic system.
What was important was what was the underlying problem behind the obesity situation and what caused that problem.
Especially in recent years, many people have talked about hormones, low-carb diets, and intermittent fasting as if they had found all the answers, but it seems like they just don't have enough.
This is because there were phenomena that could not be explained simply by the claims that carbohydrates are bad, insulin is bad, and fasting is good.
A model that accurately captured the entire problem situation was needed.
[The Birth of a New Obesity Model]
In the spring of 2021, while reading materials related to artificial intelligence, the author was inspired by a learning algorithm called an "artificial neural network."
Relationships between various nodes, complex flow of reactions through circuits, reinforcement of specific circuits, feedback, learning, and repetition.
With this concept in mind, various thoughts quickly moved through my head.
I quickly wrote down my thoughts in a notebook and repeatedly revised the drawings I drew.
After several days of organizing, a model of obesity called the 'Multilayer Hormonal Network' was born.
This shows the algorithm of obesity that operates in the complex interaction of various organs and hormones.
In Diet Science 2022, the authors use this model to explain how we gain weight and how to achieve healthy weight loss success.
The author's newly developed obesity model, the 'multilayer hormonal network model,' expresses various elements contained in a box as buttons that are pressed to stimulate the next response.
The various boxes are classified into stimuli we are exposed to in daily life (input layer), complex metabolic reactions that occur within the body (internal layer), and problems that arise as a result (output layer).
Diet Science will be available in major bookstores starting in May, and in addition to the book, you can also check out his health content through the YouTube channel "Diet Scientist Choi Kyeom."
As summer approaches and it becomes increasingly difficult to put off dieting, we look forward to seeing how his book and content will resonate with the world.
With the publication of the book, the author conveyed the following message:
“I wrote this book to help people who, like my friend, are ruining their lives in a vicious cycle of poor dieting.
If you're having trouble with your diet right now, it's not your fault.
The method was wrong.
The fact that there were problems with the methods we've used so far means that changing the methods can solve the problems.
If you digest the information in this book and change your perspective on your body and the choices you make every day, you will soon be able to overcome this problem.
I often receive emails from YouTube subscribers who changed their habits after watching my old videos.
If you too start dieting the right way, one day you will come to me with good news about your changed body.
If you don't rush and take things slow and change them one by one, you can do it.
I will cheer you on from my position.”
