100 Must-Read English Books for Children Ages 0-10
Description
Book Introduction
No English kindergartens! No English camps! No long-term overseas travel!
I sent my child to an American university by reading only English books.
I will reveal the know-how and roadmap for reading English books from a mother who is not good at English.
“There is a surefire way to solve my child’s English problems!” The new book by Eunyoung Ko (Yeongdol Mom), a passionate English evangelist who makes a compelling argument for parents, is a hot topic.
We all know that reading English books is important for children who are new to English, but many parents are unsure where to start.
It's not easy to keep your child reading English books without clear guidelines on how good they are, whether it's okay to read to them with a mess of pronunciation, and how to make it fun.
To these parents, the author says that even he, who is not good at English, was able to do it without difficulty, and that it is important to start with an English book that suits the child's ability and taste.
This is because the child will not think of English as a study, but will be able to grow with the mother and maintain it for a long time.
And then, he emphasizes that if you gradually increase the topics your child likes, he will naturally be able to acquire enough English skills to study in an American high school.
He says that his second son (who started at age 4) who is about to graduate from college early in the U.S., his first son (who started at age 6) who started late but has English skills comparable to a native speaker, and his youngest daughter (who started at age 0), who is ten years younger than his first son, all started reading English books using this method.
The 100 books introduced in this book were carefully selected from proven English original books that have earned a reputation as the most effective among members from 15 years of running an English library and English original book reading café, as well as know-how acquired while raising three children in native English.
This book is divided into four levels, providing a reading plan for English books that can be used at any level.
For children aged 0-4 who are just learning words and pronunciation, we help them learn words through concept books such as “color zoo” and “Opposites” that focus on background vocabulary. For children aged 5-8 who are recognizing short stories, we help them become familiar with easy English sentences through popular character series such as “Pip and Fozzie” and “Peppa Pig.”
Starting with this, you can expand your child's interest to include solid chapter books and fantasy novels, and continue reading original books.
In addition, it introduces an expanded book list of about 500 books and various post-reading activities, making it useful for parents who want to delve deeper.
The author says that anyone can do all of this consistently, investing just 30 minutes without any professional know-how.
The author's roadmap is structured so that anyone can easily get started, and anyone who browses through this book will find at least one book that both mother and child will love.
So, let's start reading fun English books to change my child's future!

Into the book
Being good at a language ultimately comes down to writing.
To think, express, communicate, and ultimately work with native speakers, you need to be able to write.
Second, the essays my son wrote in high school and college always moved the hearts of his teachers and professors.
The 'literary expressiveness' acquired through reading English original texts was naturally expressed in writing.
--- p.10
Reading original texts broadens a child's horizons and strengthens their language skills.
In conclusion, reading original English books has a positive impact on a child's overall development beyond simply learning the language.
If you help your child develop the habit of reading English books, you are giving him or her the greatest gift for the future.

For children who are just beginning to learn English, it is best to first introduce them to picture books where the pictures and words are matched 1:1.
This book helps you understand by naturally connecting sounds and pictures without having to necessarily translate them into Korean.
As you start with words and gradually move on to sentences, the ability to perceive and infer English words will naturally develop.
--- p.27
When implementing the Mom's English curriculum, this is the question parents are most curious about.
“If I just read English picture books diligently, will my child be able to speak English?” Yes and no.
Even the same English picture book can have different effects depending on how it is read and used.
If you read it once and put it on the bookshelf, it will be difficult to speak properly.
If you read books in an interesting way and apply them simply in real life, speaking English is not difficult at all.
--- p.45
Most Mother Goose shows end up just showing it in videos.
It helps you become more familiar with English, but it doesn't help you feel the emotions and feelings.
Mother Goose is not easy to intuitively understand because of its nature.
So even if you listen to the song many times, it's difficult to figure out what it means.
There are many benefits to approaching songs as 'stories' through picture books that can be touched and manipulated with your hands.
It helps children become interested in the world of English, not just its sounds.
--- p.61
Language acquisition is very complex and influenced by many factors.
But because there are picture books, children can do it naturally and easily.
Picture books that deal with pattern sentences are especially effective for language acquisition.
Pattern sentences help you understand language structure and help you learn grammar naturally.
It also helps improve your vocabulary.
You can easily infer the words that change in the pattern sentences through pictures, so you can easily understand and acquire various words.
The story is simple yet fun, making it easy to read, and as you understand the pattern sentences, your basic English skills, such as reading and writing, will also improve.

When your child is young, you will read a lot of books about body parts.
Also, try engaging in physical play.
Use your five senses to easily recognize new words.
Since the theme is body parts, it's incredibly easy to engage with all five senses. When reading, gently touch or tickle the corresponding body part while repeating the words.
They say that using your five senses to recognize vocabulary helps it transfer to long-term memory.
Additionally, skin contact with the mother can even foster positive feelings about English.

The important thing at this stage is to develop literacy, the ability to understand simple plots.
Please help me organize the plot in Korean step by step.
“What happened to Pip and Fozzie in the book?”, “Pip peed on his clothes.”, “So what happened?”, “Fozie helped Pip.”, “How did he help him?”, “He cleaned up the peed on the floor and helped Pip wash and change his clothes.” There’s no need to force yourself to summarize the entire story in one breath.
By asking a series of simple questions, the child can organize the contents of the book on his or her own.
Just let them see and learn from exemplary behavior naturally.
--- p.188
As you read a variety of English picture books to your child, you will finally feel that they have reached the literacy stage.
As the number of recognized whole letters (words recognized as single pictures) increases, it sends signals to read them on its own.
This is the most effective time to start reading with your child in earnest.
--- p.231
Once your child is able to read more structured books, he or she will likely begin kindergarten or elementary school and have a wider circle of friends.
As you gain more experience at school, your mature concerns will also increase.
The English original also serves as a counseling tool for various growing concerns.
Mom's English also needs to focus on helping children express themselves in ways they find difficult to say out loud.
While reading, focus on 'Mom's English Conversation' where your child compares the book to his or her own experiences or shares his or her thoughts and feelings after reading.
It will help you improve your English skills and communicate with your child at the same time.
--- p.261
This book introduces a whopping 500 original English books, including 100 essential reading books and a series of recommended books.
Even if you want to read English books, you may feel overwhelmed at first.
But if you just refer to this book, it will be much easier to get started.
The most important thing is to enjoy the time spent reading with your child.
Time spent laughing, talking, and sharing thoughts is a great gift to a child.

Publisher's Review
From picture books to Newbery Medal winners, 100 English books suitable for children's level and tastes in one volume.
For several years now, books advocating the importance of 'Mom's English' have been gaining popularity.
There is a lot of information available on blogs, cafes, YouTube, etc.
The key is to engage with English books appropriate to your level! Just as reading appropriate to your level is crucial for mastering Korean and becoming fluent in writing and speaking, a similar approach is essential for truly mastering English.
This is because 'language learning' is something that is gradually acquired by listening, seeing, speaking stutterily, and reading imitatively like local children.
However, for new parents, it can be complicated and confusing to choose an English book that is appropriate for their child's level and what points to focus on when reading.
So, even though I don't have any money, I really want to send my child to an academy, an English kindergarten, or a foreign school.
This book, “100 Must-Read English Original Books for Children Ages 0-10,” is designed so that parents like you can follow along without any preparation.
From 0 years old (prenatal education) to 10 years old (3rd year of elementary school), and even further up to middle and high school, if you read along step by step according to your child's interests and level, it will guide you step by step to acquire the ability to listen to English, speak English, read English, write English, and even think and discuss in English and communicate with local people.
It is the best companion that kindly guides children from the stage of collecting background vocabulary by matching sounds and pictures to the stage of reading top-level literature and non-fiction composed of complex and difficult words.
It goes beyond simple book introductions and introduces a variety of activities that expand reading into daily life, such as mother-style post-reading activities based on the characteristics of the original English book, fun elements such as puppet shows and role-playing, various videos and audio files that can be used with the book, and strategies to increase the imprinting effect by linking it to physical activities such as coloring, toy making, and experiential activities.
The curriculum, which the author created through his own experiences with children and through repeated verification with countless children at English libraries and cafes, is designed to suit Korean children, from the 'word recognition stage' through picture books, to the 'storybook stage' for learning short sentences, the 'chapter book stage' for moving on to complex and profound topics, and a variety of 'level-specific English original books' that children can enjoy reading on their own.
Investing 30 minutes a day will not only improve your child's English skills,
The secret to eliciting thoughts, emotions, literacy, logic, empathy, and communication skills.
Why is reading English books with your child important? Being fluent in English isn't simply about having a good pronunciation or speaking like a native speaker.
In the end, it all comes down to 'writing in English'.
Writing must be mastered to think, express, communicate, and ultimately work with them.
The author's children, trained in reading English from a young age, have developed 'literary expressive skills' over the years.
This ability provided me with solid support when writing college entrance essays, papers, etc.
Writing skills developed through reading English books are the perfect culmination point for mastering English.
In that sense, the only English learning method that can surpass various English teaching methods such as videos, listening, and English kindergartens is 'reading English original texts'.
It's not just the child's English skills that grow.
The author said that, in fact, it was her mother who had grown the most over the years of reading English books.
At first, I was not confident because I was bad at English and my pronunciation was terrible, but by watching YouTube videos, using CDs, and working on activities with my child, my English skills gradually improved.
Now I have no fear of English and I don't have any difficulty communicating in English.
The first and only guide to making reading English books easier.
Beyond improving your English skills, reading English books has many other benefits.
First, it provides a foundation for language acquisition.
Second, it fosters imagination and creativity through text, pictures, and stories.
Third, strengthen the bond between parent and child by reading, playing, and doing activities together.
Fourth, by starting with short picture books and gradually reading books with more text and richer content, children gain a sense of accomplishment and develop a voluntary, self-directed learning attitude.
Fifth, it broadens the horizons of thought by allowing students to view English as a fun language rather than a subject to study, and solidifies their language skills accordingly.
This book is the best companion that kindly guides you to faithfully enjoy such effects.
