The health of the liver, which is responsible for detoxification in our body, cannot be overemphasized.
The liver can be divided into healthy, diseased, and non-diseased states. Hepatitis and cirrhosis can be considered diseased states, and fatty liver can be considered non-diseased states. Stage 1, the preparation period, is the period for preparing for detoxification. You should not start cleaning right away today out of hasty greed. You must prepare your body first. Q I started preparing for the Q period, but I had an unavoidable commitment and ended up eating a forbidden food. What should I do?
A It would be nice to detoxify perfectly according to each stage, but that may not be possible when living a social life. If you had to eat taboo foods due to a meal or company dinner in the middle, you can make up for it to some extent by eating more of the detox diet at subsequent meals. If you ate alcohol, meat, or flour-based foods, eat the alcohol detox diet (see pages 302-305), flour-based detox diet (see pages 309-313), and meat detox diet (see pages 317-321) introduced in Chapter 4. The second source of toxins that strongly tempts modern people and is therefore so difficult to avoid is flour-based foods. If you look closely, you will see flour-based foods everywhere, such as ramen, snacks, bread, noodles, pizza, and fried foods, so it is difficult to avoid them no matter how hard you try. Moreover, most of them are made with white flour with the husk removed, not whole wheat flour, which is even more harmful to the body. If you continue to eat flour-based foods, the sticky nature of flour blocks the flow of the meridians, creating dregs and lumps. This condition is called 'myeonjeok', using the characters for flour noodles and accumulation.
In order to prevent the residue of flour foods from accumulating in the body and causing an unhealthy condition, you must eat foods that detoxify the properties of flour from time to time. Foods that detoxify flour recommended in the Donguibogam include bok choy, green onion, red bean, five-leaf clover, and tangerine peel.
Nabok refers to a radish, which is rich in digestive enzymes and acts as a natural digestive agent.
Cheongakchae is a type of seaweed belonging to the Cheongak family. It is mainly used as a side dish in the form of stir-fried vegetables or kimchi. It is usually called Cheongak, but it is also called Nokgakchae because its shape resembles deer antlers.
Red beans are called red beans. Red beans are not only a delicious food, but can also be used as a detoxifier in daily life.
Omae refers to plums that have been roasted and then dried. Plums have many health benefits, but one of them is their excellent ability to promote digestion. They also help flour-based foods to be digested better.
Tangerine peel refers to the peel of a tangerine. Tangerine peel helps improve blood circulation and aids digestion. So, when you eat a lot of flour-based foods and have indigestion, you can take medicine with boiled tangerine peel water.
