Description
Book Introduction
Fun and happy play is more important than early education!
Everything You Need to Know About Developmental Play from Dr. Oh Eun-young, the "God of Parenting."

“A child’s development is achieved through the interaction of physical, cognitive, relational, language, and emotional domains.
“Play has everything you need here.” _Dr. Oh Eun-young

“I believe that parents’ play with their children is better than any other early education.
When you play, you feel happy and joyful.
“Playing with children creates happy and enjoyable memories for them.”

In December 2023, Dr. Oh Eun-young's "How Should We Play 2" was published, which changed the paradigm of play through "How Should We Play 1" and presented, like a Christmas present, the fact that play that makes both parents and children happy is possible even in the difficult reality of parenting in Korea.

This book is for children aged 5-6 (60-83 months), following the first volume which was for children aged 3-4 (36-59 months).
In detail, the developmental period was divided into four periods and points were presented for each age: 'Control movements appropriately and focus grows rapidly (60-65 months)', 'Enjoy talking while expressing your feelings and thoughts (66-71 months)', 'Enjoy time with friends and grow physically and mentally (72-77 months)', 'Develop healthy lifestyle habits and prepare for basic learning (78-83 months)'.
Additionally, for each game, the five development levels of physical, cognitive, relational, language, and emotional are indicated with pentagons so that the points for each area can be seen at a glance.
A total of 100 games are included, and they have been jointly researched and developed by Dr. Eunyoung Oh, Korea's leading parenting authority, and the research team at Eun Life Science, and have undergone meticulous verification.

When children play, they experience a variety of sensations and move their bodies a lot, resulting in physical interactions.
As we continue to speak, verbal interaction occurs, and as we feel various emotions, emotional interaction also occurs.
Cognitive interaction also occurs when a guardian explains to the child how to play or the rules.
In doing so, the child learns about relationships between people.
In short, playing well leads to balanced development of body, cognition, relationships, language, and emotions.

Also, the age of 5-6 is a time when children feel excitement about entering elementary school, as well as anticipation and worry about the new environment.
Therefore, during this period, various experiences through play are very important for children's social development and readiness for learning.
Play, which helps children learn the basic rules of school life, form relationships with peers, and develop problem-solving skills through various activities, greatly contributes to children's smooth adaptation to school and increases their interest in learning.

This book presents 100 play activities to help children develop a variety of skills needed for school life.
Newly designed play activities that take age and developmental characteristics into account help children learn naturally while having fun participating.
Through play, children can increase their anticipation for school life, build confidence, and start a happy elementary school life.

---From the "Preface"

The 'vestibular sense' acts like a compass and speedometer in our body.
Through our vestibular sense, we can tell whether we are moving or not, and if we are moving, in which direction and how fast we are moving.
Additionally, the vestibular sense, which is important for maintaining posture and balance, develops through various movements.
By developing your child's vestibular sense through 'balloon baseball', they will be able to recognize the distance between themselves and objects when moving in a certain space.
This also affects the ability to perceive space, which allows you to avoid collisions.

---From "Balloon Baseball (5 years old (60-65 months), physical play)"

When first teaching time to a child, it is effective to start with the 'on the hour', such as 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, and 3 o'clock.
The concept of time can be learned through pictures or worksheets.
However, if you try to operate the clock at home yourself through 'Learn Time (1) On Time', you will be able to understand and read the on time more easily.
Creating a schedule for your child's daily routine and discussing it with them can also help them learn the concept of time.

---From "Learning Time (1) Regular Time (5 years old (66-71 months), Cognitive Play)"

During this period of childhood, children need to practice and develop more complex social relationships.
Especially in peer relationships, it becomes more important to resolve conflicts and cooperate on one's own rather than having a guardian intervene to solve the problem.
'Survival on the Air Cap' is a game that helps children learn coordination and cooperation skills that can be applied in peer relationships.

---From "Surviving on the Air Cap (6 years old (72-77 months), relationship play)"

Children at this age develop more speaking skills.
So, to maintain the topic of conversation, we use 'discourse cohesive devices' such as appropriate vocabulary, connective endings, conjunctions, and demonstratives.
You will also become more adept at referencing and inferring, providing information while considering the other person's position during a conversation, or conversely, requesting specific information.
They also develop language structures with clear causal relationships similar to those of adults.
'Imaginary Story Land' is a game where you listen carefully to what the other person says and create a story.
This game helps develop pragmatic skills, such as understanding and maintaining a topic of conversation, and using language appropriately in situations, such as waiting for one's turn.

---From "Imagination Story Country (6 years old (78-83 months), Language Play)"

One of the important factors in the emotional development of children during this period is ‘self-esteem.’
Understanding myself allows me to value myself, and based on this, I can move on to acknowledging the differences between myself and others.
You can also develop self-respect by doing things you can do yourself and making plans for things you want to do.
‘Make My Day’ is a game that helps you develop a sense of accomplishment and self-control by planning and carrying out your daily tasks.
Through this play, children develop a greater sense of self-worth, which helps them develop positive emotions.
---From "The Day I Make (6 years old (78-83 months), Emotional Play)"

Publisher's Review
Is my child playing happily and smartly?
It covers all areas of physical, cognitive, relational, language, and emotional development!

“Children ask to play whenever they have a chance.”, “Why do children want to play again after playing all day?” Parenting is hard work, but playing with children is no easy task.
The child wants to play non-stop until he goes to bed, and it is hard to tell where his energy comes from.

Of course, just like children, adults also prefer playing to studying or working.
However, guardians who are already adults are at a loss as to what kind of play their children like, how to play with them, and what to say when they play.
Even though play is said to be important for early childhood development, the burden on the mind increases.
I'm also worried that I might be playing with my child too picky.

But there's no need to take it too seriously.
For example, we all know that eating is important in life.
So I try to stay healthy by eating a variety of foods rather than just one.
The same goes for play.
You can play with your child in the areas of physical, cognitive, relational, language, and emotional development.
In that sense, this book will completely resolve the concerns of guardians who are concerned about play.

Growing up with parents and children together
A 'Happy Playbook' that makes everyone happy

"How Should We Play 2" is a masterpiece of a play book for all guardians who are concerned about what to do and how to play with their children.
This book contains 100 fun activities suitable for children ages 5 to 6 (60 to 83 months).
For reference, 『How Should We Play 1』, for ages 3-4 (36-59 months), was published in December 2023.

In this book, the 5-6 year olds are divided into four periods based on the number of months: 5 year olds (60-65 months), 5 year olds (66-71 months), 6 year olds (72-77 months), and 6 year olds (78-83 months).
Additionally, for each period, we divided it into five developmental areas: physical, cognitive, relational, language, and emotional, and introduced play that is helpful for each area.

Rotating play activities appropriate for each child's developmental age is also good for the child's balanced development.
Still, it can be difficult to know how to play with your child.
Who can be perfect from the start? For parents who are still struggling with playing with their children, we've included detailed and helpful information on supplies, play methods, tips, and a parent guide.

When you play with your child, the child has fun, and when you see the child having fun, the guardian becomes happy too.
In addition, through the process of enjoying play with children, guardians come to understand their children better, and children also develop a stronger attachment to their guardians.
Children grow every day through play, and their caregivers also change and grow every day as caregivers.

For your child's first elementary school life through play
Let's develop social skills and preparedness together!

The 100 games in this book were jointly researched, developed, and verified by the Oh Eun Life Science research team, which includes Dr. Oh Eun-young, play therapists, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, speech therapists, and cognitive therapists, making them more professional and trustworthy than anything else.
Parents of children aged 5 to 6 years old may be overwhelmed with worries as their children prepare to enter elementary school.
However, if you refer to this book and have fun playing with your child, it will completely relieve your child's anxiety and help greatly in improving the social skills and preparedness needed for elementary school life.
Through various games, children learn the various rules necessary for school life, form harmonious relationships with friends, and acquire problem-solving skills through various missions and challenges.
Therefore, this book will serve as a warm stepping stone to help children happily embrace their first experience of school life and grow into confident and happy children.
