I'll lend you the Milk Carton University
Description
Book Introduction
15 famous lectures born from 49,417km of footwork and 100 handwritten letters
“Possibilities unfold when you recognize your own worth!”
A great miracle started from a discarded military supply milk carton.
A large-scale project that took one year of research, one year of domestic and international interviews, and one year of revisions.
*** Recommended by Han Myeong-su, Chief Creative Officer of Woowa Brothers
“There are no medical schools, but there are plenty of classes that encourage and save people.
“A book I want to buy for all the young people around me.”
'The military is a place to kill time.' There was an officer who did not conform to this common belief.
In the hope that soldiers would have valuable experiences during their military service, I opened up a military milk carton and wrote letters to prominent figures from various walks of life.
Celebrities who were always busy began taking the time to respond to the simple yet heartfelt letters asking for strength, courage, dreams and hope for young people.
This letter inspired author Choi Young-hwan to travel the world for a year, collecting interviews containing messages that could serve as life lessons.
This interview was formatted as a lecture, and a virtual university called “Milk Carton University” was created, where the best leaders in each field lecture on life wisdom and practical advice.
Established in this way, 'Milk Carton University' has been a guide for people of all ages and genders who dream of a better tomorrow than yesterday for about 10 years.
It has also spread a positive influence for over 10 years, as seen in reviews such as, “A student who decided to read this book and take on the challenge when he was tired and wanted to give up,” and “A reader who found hope when he was discouraged and wondered if living a meaningful life was foolish.”
The miracle of 'Milk Carton University', born from seemingly reckless passion, will bring hope to those who feel the future is bleak and life is uncertain.

Into the book
It took one year to research the material, another year to discuss and revise it, six months to conduct domestic interviews, and four months to conduct overseas interviews.
As a result, I was able to create this book.
To recruit the best faculty, we traveled not only across the country but also across the United States, and even went from Paris, France to Africa to meet just one professor.
---From "Page 8_Prologue"
Many people want to be successful.
But he gives up after matching only three of the four numbers to open the key to success, leaving the last one behind.
I decided to try to match it to the end.
---From "Page 19_PART 1 Mental Health Management Department"
The story I most want to tell young people is this 'direction'.
For example, when driving on the highway, if you are going the right way, even if you go slowly or have an accident along the way, as long as you keep going in that direction, you will eventually reach your destination.
But no matter how fast it seems to go, if you take a shortcut, it's worse than not going at all.
---From "Page 61_PART 2 Self-Development Department"
“I am truly lucky.” If you have this mindset, you will be excited about whatever you do.
I feel happy when I think of myself as lucky, and because of that happy feeling, I work positively, and this ultimately leads to good results.
And the result is a virtuous cycle that supports the lucky mindset again.
---From "Page 61_PART 2 Self-Development Department"
Many speakers start off boringly talking about themselves: me, me, me, me, me, me.
The best speakers don't talk about themselves.
They begin their speech by talking about the audience and what interests them.
---From "Page 130_PART 3 Department of Communication"
Two years ago, I got a call from a pastor in Pennsylvania.
“Congressman Shin, there are a lot of adopted children. I feel so bad for them. I’d like to treat them to dinner. Can we join you?” At that moment, I immediately hung up.
I got another call from the pastor.
I said this:
“Our adopted children don’t need pity.
“What we need is recognition.”
---From "Page 189_PART 4 Global Stage University"
On the international stage, you will be asked what your unique strengths are.
Students from so-called prestigious universities in Korea are recognized as smart wherever they go, but on the international stage, they are ultimately just one of many talented individuals.
If you can't give a reason to answer the question, "Why you?", then it's not acceptable.
Becoming irreplaceable is a key strategy on the international stage.

Publisher's Review
“All the power to make my dreams come true already lies within me.”
The reckless courage of an unknown young man shakes the hearts of leaders around the world.
When this book was first published, word of mouth spread about its unusual writing process.
The author, a former junior officer, felt sorry that soldiers were treating the two most brilliant years of their 20s as a waste of time, so he washed and dried military milk cartons and wrote letters to celebrities from all over the world.
“Please convey words of strength and help to the soldiers.” To the surprising response of an unknown young man, people from home and abroad began to respond.
After being discharged from the military, the young man spent three years preparing, including six months of domestic interviews and six months of overseas interviews, and published a book titled “I’ll Lend You Milk Carton University.”
Over the next decade, the book gained acclaim from readers for its unique publishing story and compelling, inspiring content.
Since the publication of this book, the author Choi Young-hwan has traveled the world and met people who have all confessed how 'Milk Carton University' has changed them.
However, during the process, some of the professors had already passed away, and there were also requests from mentors to revise the lecture content.
Accordingly, the author hopes that Milk Carton University will once again ignite passion in people's hearts. He has published a revised edition of 15 lectures that have been most loved by readers.
Ahn Sung-ki, Joel Austin, Yoon Yoon-soo… … World-renowned celebrities
We gathered together to awaken the passion of the people of Korea.
Since the publication of this book, South Korea's GDP ranking has risen from 15th to 10th, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development has officially recognized South Korea as a developed country, and the world has taken notice of South Korea's cultural content, further enhancing South Korea's status.
However, the numerous restrictions imposed by COVID-19 and the subsequent high prices and economic downturn have made daily life feel even more difficult.
Moreover, the 'spoon controversy' that divides people into classes based on their birth has reduced efforts and challenges to meaningless.
It is no exaggeration to say that today, South Korea's national prestige has risen, but individuals are feeling powerless.
In this climate, Jang Hyung-tae, CEO of Daehan Seed Gardening and the father of Korean wildflowers, says, “Be bold and take the first step.”
“Creating something from nothing is difficult, but if you don’t push forward because it’s difficult, you won’t be able to do anything.”
The author, who began his military service on the front lines without internet or cell phones, continued writing letters on milk cartons, which others ridiculed as reckless.
As a result, I met and interviewed prominent figures I wanted to meet, such as 'luxury actor' Ahn Sung-ki, Joel Austin, author of 'The Power of Positivity', 'legendary salaryman' Fila Korea CEO Yoon Yoon-soo, Incheon International Airport CEO Lee Chae-wook, and Washington State Senator Shin Ho-beom, and included those interviews in the form of lectures in the book.
The author's attitude of believing in his own dreams and passion and moving forward, along with the encouragement and advice he offers to such determined individuals from those who have achieved success in their respective fields, resonates and inspires with a resonance and impact that is rarely found today.
Milk Carton University doesn't give you the 'right' answer.
Milk Carton University teaches you how to find your own path.
This book is organized into five departments to highlight the unique nature of 'university'.
The Department of Mental Health teaches students how to overcome life's anxieties and establish their own standards. The Department of Self-Development teaches students how to cultivate expertise and competitiveness. The Department of Communication teaches students how to communicate effectively and enhance their abilities. The Department of Global Stage teaches students how to broaden their perspectives and collaborate flexibly. The Department of Leadership teaches students how to unleash the potential of themselves and others.
The advice that professors at 'Milk Carton University' give to readers has one thing in common.
The point is, don't lose your own dreams.
This means forging your own path, rather than blindly following the paths of others to success. OECD Lifetime Research Fellow Hong Eun-pyo says the key to success lies in developing your own unique ability to answer the question, "Why you?"
The lectures at 'Milk Carton University' are filled with ways to become this 'irreplaceable talent'.
