Reinforced Soil Retaining Wall Design and Construction Manual
Description
Book Introduction
All about the design and construction of reinforced soil retaining walls
Useful knowledge and practical solutions for reinforced soil retaining walls construction engineers.
In Korea, the design methods for reinforced soil retaining walls have been presented in various ways, including the Construction Work Slope Design Standards, Structure Foundation Design Standards, Railway Design Standards (Roadbed Edition), Road Design Manual, Railway Design Manual, and Geotextile Design and Construction Guidelines. In 2016, as the construction standards were codified, the contents of the Construction Work Slope Design Standards were supplemented with the contents of the Structure Foundation Design Standards, Railway Design Standards, etc., and were integrated into KDS 11 80 10: Reinforced Soil Retaining Walls. However, the contents are not detailed enough for engineers to apply in practice, so they still have to refer to other foreign design standards, such as the FHWA guidelines.
Accordingly, the Korean Society of Geotechnical Engineers published the 『National Construction Standard KDS 11 80 10 Reinforced Soil Retaining Wall Commentary』 in January 2024 to resolve the difficulties faced by engineers, and has now published the 『Reinforced Soil Retaining Wall Design and Construction Manual』, which contains comprehensive information on the design, construction, and maintenance of reinforced soil retaining walls.
This manual explains the design and construction methods of reinforced soil retaining walls in as much detail as possible so that practitioners involved in the design and construction of reinforced soil retaining walls can refer to them.
In addition to the design and construction of basic reinforced soil retaining walls, we have tried to explain in detail almost all issues related to reinforced soil retaining walls encountered in practice, such as multi-stage reinforced soil retaining walls, double-end reinforced soil retaining walls, reinforced soil retaining walls applied to structural connections, angles, and curved parts, as well as measures to prevent settlement of reinforced soil retaining walls, drainage and water-blocking facilities, construction and quality control, and maintenance.
We hope that this manual will provide useful knowledge and practical solutions to construction engineers working on reinforced earth retaining walls, and that it will contribute to the realization of rational and safe construction projects.
