Understanding Middle Korean
Description
Book Introduction
This book was written as a textbook for the course 'Understanding Middle Korean,' a major subject for third-year students in the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Korea National Open University.
『Understanding Middle Korean』 is a revised version of the previous ‘Middle Korean Practice’ course.
In addition, the name of the textbook was changed to 'Understanding Middle Korean', and the overall format was changed along with a significant revision of the content.
Like all languages, our language has constantly changed since the past, is changing now, and will continue to change in the future.
It's hard to recognize the changes as we live, but as time goes by and small changes accumulate, it becomes difficult to understand the words of the past.
The Middle Korean language we are studying here is the Korean language that our ancestors used as a tool for daily communication in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Our ancestors not only used this language to lead their daily lives, but also created their own unique culture through this language, which they passed on to us today.
History is the driving force that creates the present.
In order to correctly understand history and move forward toward a better future, we must fully understand our ancient language, which has been an important part of our culture.
『Understanding Middle Korean』 is a course designed to deepen the understanding of Middle Korean grammar based on knowledge of modern Korean grammar, while also cultivating the ability to read and interpret actual Middle Korean literature.
It may feel very unfamiliar and difficult at first, but I believe that through the process of learning one thing at a time and repeating it, you will naturally become familiar with Middle Korean and through this, you will be able to feel the thoughts and breath of our ancestors.
