Publisher's Review
introduction
The day I write this introduction happens to be my birthday.
I wish I could do push-ups at this age, but time has a way of taking away the tendons.
It's not just the muscles, but the sensitivity and guns are also pitiful compared to when they were vibrant.
The saying that one's perspective on the world deepens with age is nonsense.
I get upset more often and get angry easily when I hear bitter words.
If there's anything I've learned, it's the realization that there are no guarantees in life.
As I was writing the second introduction, I thought it would be the last.
I was confident that there was nothing more to fill in, but in less than two years I am writing the preface to a new edition.
Even in that short period of time, the world changed like lightning.
After the Ice Age-like pandemic passed, AI began to replace humans in earnest.
Calling balls and strikes in baseball is now a chore for AI.
Some sports have AI commentary on the games.
People are disappearing from the sports world.
If the way people live is the humanities, then sports are the humanities.
Sports, where we laugh at victory and cry at defeat, worship sweat and scold pride, are all too human.
Sports ethics can be said to be the essence of humanities, as it even examines the rights and wrongs of actions.
But despite this pride, sports ethics has remained unfamiliar and unfamiliar.
Still alone, thin and miserable, without having achieved the citizenship of academia.
So in this version, I filled in more of the human's patterns and flesh.
‘Athletes’ Human Rights’ was added as a new chapter, and the theory explaining sports phenomena was greatly strengthened.
With a lineup like this, you won't be outdone no matter where you put it.
I am proud to say that I have maintained my original intention of talking about ethics like ventriloquism, but also talking about sports, and thus conveying that sports are a profound human activity.
But I felt empty all the time while thinking about the preface.
Perhaps it's because of the nature of a book that's mine but not mine. It's a bit ironic that I feel carefree but also keep looking back.
There is a line like this in the novel by Haruki Murakami that I am reading now.
“It is better not to look up at the sky when you have a plate on your head.” But I read it as “You cannot look up at the sky when you have a plate on your head.”
I finally put down the plate that had been resting on my head for so long. I want to relax my neck and look at the stars in the sky.
