Family Resilience
Description
Book Introduction
This book presents a research-based family resilience framework for interventions and prevention aimed at strengthening core family processes in overcoming adversity.
It also incorporates cutting-edge research and developments in community-based services and presents core principles of a multi-layered, developmental systems framework that emphasizes the ongoing interplay of individual, family, community, sociocultural, and spiritual influences on crisis and resilience.
Program applications, practical guidelines, and case studies are presented to address a variety of adversities, including recovery from crisis, trauma, and loss; coping with turbulent transitions such as unemployment, divorce, and relocation; overcoming multiple stressors caused by chronic conditions such as illness, disability, persistent trauma, and poverty; and overcoming barriers to success for at-risk youth.
Expanded resilience-oriented approaches to combat-related trauma and collective trauma from major disasters and terrorist attacks were also included.
Two chapters address resilience-oriented family assessment and resilience across the family life cycle and its turbulent transitions.
Part 1, Chapter 1 presents the foundation for a practical family resilience approach.
Chapter 2 examines family resilience within a social context, focusing on the increasing diversity and complexity of families and the increasing stressful and challenging challenges they face in a rapidly changing world.
Part 2 integrates research findings and practice perspectives to identify key interactional processes that can promote effective family functioning and resilience.
Part 3 explains the principles of assessment and practice of the family resilience framework and provides examples of program application.
